Heavenly Creatures

Chapter CHAPTER 3: Dragon

When I saw Tara for the first time at my new (gag) school, I felt a flicker of interest for the first time in several centuries.

What was a dragon doing in the in-between? I considered asking her, but then I thought better of it. Her eyes were closed, and I didn’t want to be the one responsible for waking her. Yet.

As you can probably guess, I’m not talking about physical reality of course. There are multiple levels of reality, and I can easily see beyond the one most humans see. Some humans have also been known to see beyond, like shamans, the enlightened, the insane, or artists. I was willing to bet Tara could see beyond.

Or maybe not. Her dragon’s eyes were closed, after all. And anyway, most humans lived in a severe state of disconnect from their souls. Not that there was anything wrong with that.

You may be wondering now, who—or what—am I? But I’m more interested in the mystery of Tara. And I’m as patient as eternity itself when the situation calls for it.
