Heart of the Moon

I was in the infirmary with Dad.. checking his wounds. I had irrigated them all and pulled the silver out of his bloodstream. His vitals are better.. his color looks good. His temperature is still a little elevated.. but that’s from the wolfsbane!

Alec walked in and said “Why didn’t you tell someone you needed to go to town? I don’t like you out, without protection! There are rogues everywhere!”

I grinned and said “Hello, brother! How’s your day going? Daddy is doing better, today. He’s going to make it.. but he will have a couple months recuperation. Thanks for asking! Now! I went to town to pick up some gauze and tape. The infirmary is low on them. While I did order some for delivery.. I needed some today.”

He growled “You went alone! You could have been attacked! Just next time.. please.. take some warriors, yeah!?” I smile and hug him… “Promise! And if the boys had been with me, I would have absolutely taken warriors! I’m sorry to have worried you!”

He nodded and asked “When you’re done here, can you meet me in my office?” I readily agree, saying “ As soon as I collect my sons from daycare.. you betcha!”

I finished up with my dad, leaving instructions to link me.. at any time, if anything changes! As I was heading over to the daycare my phone dinged. It was Cole! Goddess damnit! I bet he knows…and that means he’s upset!

C: ur back??? Y didn’t u call me? Why didn’t you tell me Kieran is your mate? Seriously, Cal?

Me: Only Alec and Daddy knew he was my mate. He didn’t want me, Cole. He mated me and snuck away. Some bullshit note he left.. claiming I make him weak! Fuck that!

C: I’m sorry, Callie. I just told him I will step down as Gamma.. I will not protect other than my true Luna.

Me: Don’t do that, Cole! I will be so mad at you! You can protect the Luna he chooses! You don’t have to like her! 😂

C: Haha! U r my true Luna. I would suck at being Gamma, if I ever had to choose who I would save from a burning building! 🤣

Me: Come see me tomorrow? Have something to tell you, anyway

By the time I was through texting, I was at Alec’s office. I knocked and walked in. Simon and Nick were already there. I grinned at all three of them and said “what’s up buttercup?” Nick grinned and asked “What’s the word, hummingbird?” Then Simon adds “What’s the gist, physicist?” We all crack up laughing.. while Alec rubs his forehead, saying “Can we just not?” Making us laugh harder.

Alec asks about Daddy.. and since healing is my second most favorite thing to talk about, I say “He’s improving. The silver is gone.. and the wolfsbane is dissipating. I will start waking him tomorrow. He’s going to have to have some physical therapy.. he’s got a long couple of months ahead!”

Alec then says “Calista, Kieran called today.” I butted in “Oh! Let me guess… He called to complain about me insulting that fake bitch with the bolt-on boobs, Valerie!” He choked on a laugh and said “No! No.. that wasn’t what he called about.. but put a pin in that… I want to circle back to it! He called because he retrieved some information from one of the rogues that attacked Dad.”

I chuckled “He retrieved it? Be quiet a moment.. let me savor the visual of him retrieving… like the dog he is!” Alec groaned out “Must you?! Let’s just get through this.. what do you say? The rogue informed him that he has an Alpha.. That Alpha is calling himself a king. He wants to take Kieran out.. by sniper.. if he has to. They are attacking our pack to get to the Heart of the Moon.”

Well… shit! Nick says “All the security cameras you ordered are being installed, as we speak. I will have them all online by dinner time.” Simon chimes in “The towers are nearly constructed and the underground bunkers at the borders are weaponized and ready for occupancy.”

I said “I want to see them! The boys are playing with Molly in the kitchen. Let’s run out there? Lenore needs to stretch!” Alec jumped up and said “Blaze can’t wait to meet her! I’m excited, too! Let’s run, guys!”

We stripped at the woodline and Lenore shifted. She stretched her forelegs out, and pushed her haunches high.. then she shook her fur out.. walking over to Blaze, she rubbed her scent all over his dark brown fur. Then licked his face and ears…as he returned the favor.

We ran and played a couple hours.. then Alec showed me the bunkers.. I was enthralled with the ingenuity of the design. The earth looked completely undisturbed.. if you didn’t know they were there, you’d never find them!

We raced back to the pack house. I almost had him, but he veered to the left and leaped an entire thicket! Once we were dressed, I stepped from behind the tree.. and he was laughing. I smirked “You cheated.. I should have expected it!” He just grabbed me in a headlock and gave me a noogie! Big brothers suck!

I got Derek and Darius seated at the table in their high chairs.. and prepared their dinner plates. Derek says “Mommy, where is our daddy? A boy at daycare said we are bastids acause we don’t have no daddy.” I look at him, then at Darius.. who nods. I smiled and said “Remember when Mommy told you that your daddy is the fiercest Alpha in our world? And remember when I told you your daddy is a very busy man.. and I haven’t had time to tell him about you? Your daddy is still a busy man.. but you will meet him, one day soon. But, for right now, point out the kid who called you bad names.”

They pointed to a little boy.. around six years old.. sitting with his parents. I recognize his mother right away. She’s always been a gossip and a trouble maker. Great! Raising the next generation of bullies!

I walk over to their table.. I say “Hello Phoebe! It seems your son had a few choice words for my two year old toddlers today! Even called them a derogatory name. Since he looks to only be five or six.. the name he called them isn’t one he pulled out of a hat! It’s a word he’s heard! If it happens again… trust and believe, I am coming for you!”

She snapped “Oh come on, Calista! You waltz in here.. dragging a set of twins, after two years.. and No Mate! Acting like you’re just so much better than the rest of us! That’s bullshit. You spread your legs for some fly by night, and put the blame on MY son for calling them bastards?!” I slapped her. Hard! I said “Your opinion of me means jackshit to me! Come for my boys, again! I dare you!”
