David didn’t linger on her response and simply walked back towards the Ellison residence.

That night had been his wedding night with Caroline, the very day they were meant to start their life together. Caroline was the bride; she should have been in the bridal suite.
There was no way she could have been at the hotel.
Caroline entered her room, picked up her sleepwear, and made her way to the bathroom for a bath. Her body felt completely drained.
She let herself sink into the tub, the warm water washing away her fatigue, and shut her eyes.
Her thoughts drifted to the skincare formulas she had been working on, but soon, Elizabeth’s hateful expression replaced them.
Caroline knew she had to uncover solid evidence to prove that Elizabeth was behind her kidnapping. Without evidence, David would never believe her or take action against Elizabeth.
Even if he couldn’t bring himself to punish his beloved mistress harshly, he would at least need to put on a show and give Caroline the justice she deserved.
It would also send a clear message to Elizabeth–not to act recklessly or scheme behind her back again. Caroline wasn’t someone to trifle with.
How could I possibly gather the evidence? And where should I even start?
She was just a pregnant woman, working long hours and enduring David’s control every night.

Startled, Caroline turned to see David leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed, his eyes brimming with fury.
She instinctively covered her chest. “How did you get in here?”
She distinctly remembered locking the door.
“I asked you a question,” David demanded, his voice cold. “Whose name were you calling? Answer me!”
Caroline bit her lip in frustration, cursing her carelessness.
She hadn’t meant to say Nash’s name aloud, and certainly not for David to overhear.
Taking a deep breath, she responded bluntly. “You already heard me. Why are you even asking?”

David’s expression darkened as he strode towards her, the sharp click of his shoes echoing in the bathroom.
Panicking, Caroline reached for a towel, but David was too quick. He lifted her out of the tub in one swift motion.
Water splashed everywhere, soaking his clothes and shoes, but he didn’t seem to care.
“Caroline,” he growled, his voice filled with rage, “you stay under my watch all day, and yet you dare to let another man cross your mind? Are you begging for trouble?”
David’s jealousy erupted, pushing him to the brink of madness.
