“Caroline, you’re just destined to live a miserable life,” David said again. “You’ll never know what it’s like to enjoy true happiness.”

She nodded. “You’re right. I don’t have the fate to enjoy your kind of happiness.”

Even though she was the real David’s wife, her child wasn’t David’s.

Right now, Elizabeth was the one being treated like royalty.

And this was just the beginning.

Soon… David’s favoritism would become even more obvious.

It didn’t matter. She was used to it. It wasn’t the first time, and it wouldn’t be the last.

Caroline had never expected David to treat her better than he treated Elizabeth.

Suddenly, her hands felt lighter. Before she could react, she heard a loud bang!

David had snatched the water and bread from her hands and thrown them straight into the trash.

Her hands were left completely empty.

“What a waste,” Caroline muttered instinctively.

She had bought it from someone earlier. It tasted awful, but it was better than starving. And now, David had just tossed it like it was nothing.

Whatever. At least she had managed to take a few bites.

Clapping the crumbs off her hands, Caroline asked, “Is Elizabeth still trying to kill herself? You’ve been in there for so long–looks like you managed to calm her down?”

David turned and walked away without bothering to say a single word.

Caroline followed after him.

Noticing how she quietly trailed behind him, he suddenly snapped, “Just standing around waiting? You didn’t think to push me to hurry up?”

“Would it have made a difference?

She didn’t see the point in wasting her breath. And she certainly didn’t want to see Elizabeth smugly basking in victory.

So she had simply waited outside.

David’s pace quickened, his entire posture radiating anger.

Caroline was completely baffled. What the heck is he mad about now? Did he expect me to barge into the hospital room and argue with Elizabeth just to amuse him? Is he annoyed that I have quietly stayed out of the way? Didn’t he like obedient, gentle, wellbehaved women? Well, today, I have played that role perfectly. Oh, I see.

No matter how she acted, David would never be satisfied.

The two of them entered the elevator, one after the other, leaving the hospital.

From around the corner, Andrew stepped out of the shadows.

He glanced in the direction David had gone, then turned toward the hospital room.

Rubbing his chin thoughtfully, he decided to check things out for himself.

Who could be important enough for David to spend so much time with, to the point where even Caroline didn’t dare to interrupt? After making sure no one was watching, Andrew quickly moved toward the hospital

room.

He had only come to the hospital to pick up his medical report, but it seemed like he was about to uncover something far more interesting.

Inside the Hospital Room, Elizabeth had completely shed her earlier weak and pitiful act.

Now, she was reclining against the bed, leisurely eating fruit.

Her complexion was rosy and glowing–hardly the look of someone in distress.

“Mom, you’re the one who always gives me the best advice. I wouldn’t have made it this far without you,” Elizabeth said smugly. “Now that Mr. Ellison has fully accepted this child, what’s our next move?”

Samantha replied, “Since Mr. Ellison wants this child, Elizabeth, you have to give him one.”

“Huh? How am I supposed to do that?” Elizabeth asked. “There’s nothing in my stomach. I can’t just magically make a baby appear.”

Samantha paced back and forth beside the bed, deep in thought. “Let me think…”

“Mom, didn’t you say before that I should fake a pregnancy, then pretend to have a miscarriage later? I still think that’s the safest and most reliable plan.”
