He Is Not Alone

Chapter 24

The group returns to La Veta and Will tells them about the meeting. It is decided that for the time being, they will settle down and try to determine what fate awaits Will and the rest of the group.

Over the coming days, the group works on their abilities. Walks into town become a daily habit. At first, there are a lot of little problems; petty theft, abuse, corruption, unhappiness, and some terminal illness. Will decides not to make a scene or bring too much attention to the group. But slowly they work together to rid the town of many of the problems.

Jennifer and John are walking around downtown La Veta. They stop into a small convenience store and John is practicing his reading of minds when he overhears a well-dressed young man talking to the owner. It is an old fashion shakedown. The young man is demanding his monthly protection money. John tells Jennifer and together, they have the young man call 911 on his cell phone. The conversation goes something like this.

“Hello, 911, what is your emergency?”

“Hello, I want to report a shakedown in progress at John’s Deli on 2ndAve. I am the guilty one. My name is Jason Brown, I am 5 feet 10 inches tall, brown hair, brown eyes and I am wearing a suit. I am armed, but I will not put up a fight; I am putting the gun on the counter in front of the owner.”

“Okay? Officers are the way, Jason. Please step away from the counter and wait for them to arrive. I will stay on the phone until they get there.”

“Okay.”

Shortly after that two patrol cars pull up and the officers take Jason away.

One officer is talking to the owner getting information for his report.

“Damnedest thing I have ever seen. Jason has been coming in here for over a year to collect protection money. Today, he stops what he is doing, takes out his cell phone and calls 911 to report the shakedown,” says the owner.

While the police are getting their information, Jennifer walks out to the patrol car and plants the thoughts into Jason’s mind to tell all he knows about the protection racket. As soon as one of the officers comes out to the car, Jason starts spilling the beans about the organization and the others involved.

John and Jennifer are not the only ones making a difference. Bruce and Bob are rounding up all the strays within the city. During one of their walks, however, they find out that there is a cockfighting training ground just outside of town. As they walk by, they can sense all of the inhuman treatment that is going on behind the closed doors of a barn. Bob calls the police, but they don’t have the legal authority to go into the property without cause. They do agree to send a patrol out and if they can determine that there is something illegal going on, they will investigate. As they wait down the street, Bruce contacts Will and the rest of the group telepathically for assistance. They decide that any unusual activity might give the police the opening.

Since Bruce and Bob work with animals so well, they call on the dogs, cats, and birds to start attacking the barn as the police arrive. Hundreds of animals are trying to get into the barn. The noise draws the owners out to the barn and they are attacked and driven back to the house. The area is beginning to resemble the old Alfred Hitchcock movie, “The Birds”. Thousands of birds are now attacking the house. They finally break into the house through the windows and the owners come running out toward the police. Several more patrol cars arrive and the owners finally confess to what is in the barn. The police are too afraid to enter the barn. Without evidence, they cannot press charges.

With the owners in custody, Bruce calls off the birds and Bob sends the dogs and cats into the woods. Almost immediately the area becomes quiet. As the police open the barn they find cocks and dogs locked into tight pens. Signs of fighting including a ring and animals used to train the attack animals are found. Bruce and Bob walk back to the campground, pleased with what they were able to accomplish.

Over the next few months, the group attends church each Sunday and Will decides that the group can use the church as a means to spread peace within the community. Will & Amy attend church and start to spread a message of “love thy neighbor”. Before long, crime is nonexistent and people are helping their neighbors. La Veta is becoming a paradise on earth. Attendance at church is approaching 100 percent and there are indications that people are coming from outside the local area for the church.

During a Sunday service, Amy senses that there are some other telepathic in attendance. She lets Will know and they begin to scan the room. There are about 20 people they are able to connect with. After church, Amy invites them to their campsite.

After introductions are made, Will and the others find out that these telepathic are from all over the US, but several of them know of others in Canada and Mexico and are in communications with them from time to time. It seems that no one really understands how they can communicate over such distances; the only requirement is to know about the other person in some way. Once they have identified the other person, they just need to start a telepathic communication with them, kind of like a mental phone call. It is also known that, like a phone call, the connection must be accepted. Will figures out that this must be the reason that Jessie and Hal are not responding. For some reason, they do not want to accept the communications. They experiment some and also learn that they cannot simply tell the others about a contact. There must be some kind of contact.

With what they know, Will figures that there are at least several thousand with telepathic capabilities. Also like his little group, he is the only one with the capabilities to control life and death. Most of the group control animals or small groups of people. After hours of conversation, many of the newcomers state that they would like to follow Will. They all feel that same, that he is someone who can use their help and they are compelled to follow him.

That evening, Amy and Will go for a walk into town. As they pass a small church, Will guides Amy inside.

“Welcome, Will, I have been expecting you. You must be Amy. Welcome to our little church,” states the pastor.

“I’m sorry, have we met?” asked Amy.

“Oh no, but I have been following your husband’s travels for a couple of years. I knew he would come eventually. Please sit and we can talk. You have so many questions. Let’s see what we can figure out.”

“I can tell you are not telepathic, yet, you know who we are. How?” asks Will.

“And God said, “You will have all the help that you need.”

Will begins to cry, finally, someone he can talk to, someone that is here to help and someone that God has sent to help. After a few minutes, they begin.

“Will, the first thing you must understand and accept is that you are a chosen one, perhaps the first since the death and resurrection of Jesus. Your task of saving mankind is not to be taken lightly.”

Amy is now in shock. She had no idea what Will would become, but she was beginning to understand that this was of biblical proportion.

“Will, your help is just beginning. This small town will grow to become your base of operation. This small church is going to grow to become the center of your movement. By the time you leave us, your word will be heard around the world. What you started here is just the beginning; it will grow around the world. You will be tested time and time again. Believe in what God can do through you and you will find peace and happiness.”

“What is it that I am supposed to do? You say I am to save mankind, save it from what?”

“Believe in God and what he can do. You are His tool. Let Him guide you. His vision will be made clear to you soon. First, you must gather the tools; He is already providing them.”

“This is so hard. I have abilities and have no idea what I am to do with them. I am building a following of others with some of the same abilities, yet they don’t know what to do either, only that they are to follow me.”

“Your abilities are a gift from God, they are power, not abilities. There are more to come to you and the others. Your power will be used to save mankind when the time comes.”

“Pastor, can you tell me what I am to do?”

“It is not mine to tell. God will let you know. For now, collect the tools He is providing.”

“What tools?”

“The others are your tools”

“So, I am to gather them here?”

“Yes, now I must go. I would like to see you again, say for Sunday services?”

“We will be here.”

Will and Amy leave the church and head back to the campsite. When they arrive, everyone is waiting. He gathers the tools that God has provided.

“Amy and I took a walk into town tonight. During the walk, we stopped in a small church. The pastor knows of my struggles. Apparently, I am to gather you and others like us together here in Paradise. To do that, I will need your help. We must contact all of those who have our telepathic abilities and have them contact others that they know and have them come to La Veta.”

Bruce speaks up, “Will, where will they all stay? Many of these folks don’t have a place to stay now and the campground is filling up fast.”

“I don’t know, but something will be provided. Winter is also just around the corner. We can’t stay here without some kind of arrangements. Anyone have any ideas?”

There is silence.

Amy says “Something will come up. For now, let’s see what we can do. We have a sofa that sleeps 2 and a chair that can sleep another.”

Bruce says, “I can sleep another 2.”

John and Jennifer take in 2 more and Bob takes 3.

Will goes to the office and calls the after-hours number and talks to the owner. He rents some of the cabins and before long everyone is settled in for the night.

The next morning, Amy is cooking breakfast and listening to the radio. A news article comes on that says the old high school is going to be put up for auction. God provides an answer.

Will walks to city hall and talks to the mayor. He is given the approval to buy the building and turn it into a sort of hotel. During their talk, Will mentions that La Veta is becoming Paradise. The mayor gets all teary-eyed. He sits down can calls the town’s Consular of Law. Within moments he hangs up and says, “Yes, La Veta is paradise and thanks to you, it will become Paradise, CO.

Will’s next stop is to a construction company. After a quick call to an architect, the plans are laid to turn the old high school into an apartment complex. It is agreed that the members of Will‘s group will help with the construction work.

The architect had already been toying with the idea of turning the school into an apartment building and had drawn up some plans. Will purchases them and takes them to city hall. Within a week, he has found a building and gotten the approval to make the required modifications. Construction begins the following Monday. With all the help, the conversion goes quickly. Each classroom is turned into a common area and two bedrooms. Every third room is converted into a bathroom with showers. Work progresses floor by floor, as one floor is completed, the followers are moved in. By the time winter arrives, everyone is sleeping in the building and work continues. The old cafeteria is remodeled and soon hot meals are being served. The offices are turned into small stores and the auditorium is converted into a meeting room and chapel. Money for the construction and supplies comes from Will’s bank account. Upon completion, the building is debt free and ready to house over 2000 people. There is even a daycare center, medical offices and several rooms for training or small group meetings.

The RVs are all stored in the school parking lot. On Christmas Eve, Pastor Jones holds the first service in the auditorium; the room is filled with townspeople and followers. Before Will introduces the pastor, he says, “Welcomes everyone and we dedicates this building to Peace on Earth. Pastor Jones is introduced and leads the gathering in song and prayer.

The followers have grown now from 28 to over 200. Monday morning, Will calls them all together. The tools are coming to him now, but he knows he needs more.

During the meeting, Will informs the group that they need to continue to contact others and bring them here to Paradise. He also tells them that he and Amy will be going on a road trip in the spring to find more places that the followers can gather.

Like any church led organization, tithing and income raising events make up a good part of what the church does so that it can support the work of God in the community, country and abroad. Pastor Jones pulls Will aside and tells him that they have been receiving money from around the world. Catholic, Baptist, Protestant, and other smaller non-denominational churches have all been donating to Will’s cause.

By spring, there is enough money available that Will can buy and build apartment complexes around the country including Canada and Mexico. His followers now number into the thousands with more coming to him every day.

Paradise is living up to its name. Over the last year, that Will and his followers have been in CO, The sleepy little town has grown by thousands. Prosperity is up, attendance at church is at capacity and the police force is reporting no major crime for the last year. The streets are clean and free of strays, the town’s people are happy and business is booming. Paradise makes the news around the country as the fastest growing and safest town in America.

Spring comes to Colorado and Will and Amy decide to search for Jessie and Hal. Will also needs to find peace, he has been restless; something or someone is missing.
