HAUNTED

She shot up tears balling out, deep breaths her eyes searched for Jacob. Startled by her sudden movement, he moved away from the door a bit. He peeped through the car door, “Are you okay?”

She crawled out silent, tears still streaming down her cheeks. He was still waiting for an answer. As soon as she was out she looked at him for a moment then pulled him close, nearly knocking him over. Arms tight around him over his shoulders. He hugged her in response.

John looked puzzled, Jacob shrugged when he caught Johns gaze. Her tears stained his shirt as they ran dry, “I’m so sorry, Jake… Jacob,” he closed his eyes and savoured the feel of her in his arms, “it’s not what I meant to happen. I’m sorry.”

He didn’t know how to respond or what she was sorry about or why she was crying… but she was and it cut him deep. He took a deep breath and was about to pull away and she wound her arms round his waist and he lost the strength to part her from him.

Old John moved around the car got what he needed and coughed to announce his presence.

He whispered, “We have to go.” She took a breath and pulled away completely which left him with an odd vacant feeling. He didn’t move from where he stood for a moment too long savouring what was now just a memory.

She followed John towards a small path. He followed her. “Where are you taking us?”

John didn’t respond.

“Apparently, I tasked him to keep something for me years ago,” Jacob answered for him.

“So you speak to Jacob but not to me?” she just wondered out loud.

“Jacob, we need to move quicker,” John said.

“Why don’t we just fly?”

“Fly?!” Lex said remembering the images of war by enraged winged creatures, destroying and spilling blood as if it was water. Winged flying creatures.

“Cut my wings off centuries ago,” old John answered. They both ignored her.

“How? The others die when they cut their wings off. Why?”

“They could draw their wings back coz those that came after us, from our blood only made their energy different. We couldn’t draw our wings back but we were a hell of a lot more indestructible. It’s really hard to be inconspicuous when you have wings bursting out of your back.”

“What happened to the others?”

“Killed them,” thoughts in Lex’s mind began to ring was she still stuck in a weird memory.

She stopped Jacob stopped with her, “what?”

“Are you real?” he reached to touch her, she staggered back.

“I think so,” he said puzzled.

“Girls’ so weak they can’t even take a short hike,” John commented as he continued on and she walked right to him. Stopped the relatively larger chubby man.

“This is what this is about,” she spat out and looked him right in the eye, “I made a murderous army and conquered the known world of my time. I wouldn’t be surprized if you told everyone that I was a dude just to make the little,” furry, “between your legs feel better… weak,” she smirked and chuckled. John threw a fist right at her, she dodged and kicked him in the nuts.

He moaned, “That’s cheating.”

“And having a fist the size of my head isn’t,” she spat back, “its winning… get used to it male. Don’t you dare ever treat me any less because you envy by boobs and lady parts, if you want them grow your own!?”

She turned and stomped down the path furious. He was just ignoring her. With all the weird going on she thoughts that something worse was happening to her. She really was losing touch between reality and her past. There was a wooden cabin cropped up ahead on her. A huge cabin, that oozed out character and age. Fine age like wine. It gracefully hid behind the trees like a shy maiden. She stomped up the wooden porch stairs and waited for the others a bit.
