Chapter 37
Chapter 37
Frederic’s seat faced the door. The simple black polo shirt he was wearing made him seem more stately. The smile on his face faded when he saw me.
“Why are you here?” he frowned.
I ignored him, waved at Tristan, and said in embarrassment, “Dr. Shelton, will you do me a favor?”
Tristan and Frederic exchanged a glance. Clearly, Tristan didn’t want to help me. But since I kept staring at him in affected awkwardness, he finally got up.
Frederic looked at us in puzzlement.
Coming out of the room, Tristan asked me, “What favor?”
“Buy something for me.” I gave a sweet smile. I could’ve asked Greta for the favor, but I didn’t.
“What is it?” he asked.
“Lean in.” I stood on tiptoes. When Tristan lowered his head, I said quickly, “Tampons and a dress!”
He was stunned, possibly wondering why I asked him for such a favor.
He refused bluntly, “No!”
“You’re helping Frederic chase another girl. Why can’t you help his pitiful wife buy tampons? You’re a doctor. Have a heart!” I snapped.
The look in his eyes became complicated again. Among Frederic’s
friends, Tristan was the only decent man. To win Emilia’s heart, he had done some crazy things, but wasn’t it normal for a single man to chase a girl?
He was much better than Frederic, who had no moral bottom line.
Sure enough, Tristan said nothing more. Pressing his lips against each other, he turned around and walked to the staircase.
While waiting at the door, I texted Greta in case she and the other girls were worried.
Just then, the door of the room opened, and Frederic came out. Seeing that I was alone, he asked, “Where’s Tristan?”
I pointed to the staircase. “There.”
Tristan came back with a black bag in his hand. His fair face was flushed. Despite his height of 1.8 m, he was ashamed.
He handed me the bag and said awkwardly, “Take it away!”
I took the bag gladly, totally ignoring Frederic, and said coquettishly, “Thank you, Dr. Shelton. I’ll buy you dinner someday!”
“Wait. What the hell is that?” Frederic grabbed my wrist. I couldn’t
leave.
He stared at the black bag in my hand with a scary look in his eyes.
I felt great. Didn’t Frederic have double standards and fear I’d cheat on him? I’d intentionally piss him off this time.
He snatched the bag away, and I let him. The moment he opened the bag, his face darkened.
“Damn! You…” Frederic was a vulgar man. He cursed when he got
angry. “You asked Tristan to buy this for you?”
“Yes. What’s the big deal? It’s not against the law, is it?” I said in feigned puzzlement.
“And this!” Frederic almost threw the pink underwear in my face. By his livid face, I know he was furious.
Tristan looked at me, seemingly pondering.
I hadn’t expected him to be so thoughtful. I only asked him to buy tampons and a dress, but he figured that my underwear must’ve gotten dirty too. He was rich, handsome, decent, and considerate. How had he lost to Frederic in my previous life?
