Chapter 14
Chapter 14
Tristan looked at me in mild surprise since we hadn’t even greeted each other except for eye contact before, not to mention dining together.
Yet, it was an invitation from his good friend Frederic’s wife, and Tristan knew exactly the significant relationship between the Hudson family and the Scott family, so after some thought, he agreed, “Okay, I’m available tonight.”
“Alright! I know a cafe with great coffee and it’s quiet and comfortable for our talk. Add my Line and let me send you the location?” I took my phone out heartily and showed Tristan the QR Code of my Line.
Tristan took a glance at the QR Code and then passed me a pen, “Nope. Write it down.”
What the heck? Was he from a primitive society? I cast him a strange look and wrote down the location of Encounter Café elegantly and fluently.
“I’ll meet you there at 8:30 pm.”
I put down the pen with smiling eyes and left in a pleasant mood.
At that time, Tristan wouldn’t see me but would run into Emilia at
Encounter Café.
With such anticipation, I was excited all day, longing for the scene where Tristan met Emilia. I decided to disguise myself to witness such a long–anticipated scene.
Frederic and Tristan were both into Emilia, no wonder they were good friends. I wondered whether Tristan fell in love with Emilia at first
sight or if his crush on her grew over time.
I might get frustrated if Tristan hadn’t fallen in love with Emilia at first sight.
I put on loose long sleeves and pants and wore a wig over my hair. At around 8 pm, I set out for Encounter Café alone.
I didn’t set foot in Encounter Café but peeped through the floor–to- ceiling window. Sure enough, Tristan sat in a corner. Wasn’t it my favorite seat?
He was wearing a white T–shirt, and he didn’t comb his hair over, which took his years off. He had an aloof and cold temperament, sitting there quietly and drinking coffee, without even fiddling with his phone.
Where was Emilia? I looked at the coffee worktop, trying to look for
her.
After searching for a while, I failed to see Emilia’s figure, but my weird behavior caught the attention of Tristan. He rose to his feet and walked out after catching sight of me. I wanted to escape, but I didn’t think it was wise to do that.
“Are you blind, Sylvia?” Tristan greeted me with unpleasant words.
“Can’t you say in a gentle tone since you are a doctor?” I took the wig off in puzzlement. It was really hot wearing that.
“You asked me to talk with you, but you wore a wig and didn’t come in. What do you mean?” Tristan asked me, frowning.
I replied stoutly, “Aren’t I here? I just wanna check if you are inside.”
Tristan didn’t talk crap to me, but held open the door and asked me, “Off you go.”

I reluctantly walked in with a wig in my hand and carefully looked around when passing the worktop. Emilia was not there.
I asked another waitress, “Where is Emilia?”
“It’s her off day!” the girl replied.
Frustration crept over me with all my anticipation turning to nothing. After sitting down with Tristan in disappointment, I ordered a cup of black coffee as usual and drank it silently.
Tristan stared at me, “Aren’t you going to talk about you and Frederic?”
I shrugged and said, “I’m not in the mood to talk. How about I buy you a cup of coffee and you go back and get some rest?”
Just at that moment, I felt the cold look from Tristan. His eyes were just as sharp as Frederic’s.‘
“Are you kidding?” he asked in a cold tone.
“No, I just suddenly feel like there’s nothing to talk about between me and Frederic. Don’t you know that I have been carrying a torch for him for many years? He wasn’t into me. And he isn’t into me. Nor will he be into me in the future. What else can we talk about?” I answered in displeasure. “If you really want to help me, just urge him to divorce me!”
Tristan stared without blinking at me, seeming to judge if I was telling
the truth.
His staring gave me the creeps. I pretended to enjoy the coffee.
“The Scott family and the Hudson family have formed an alliance through your marriage. It’s far more complex than that of ordinary people. I think you should have known better than me.” Tristan said,
“You won’t be able to divorce unless any significant issue happens. And Frederic won’t agree with that, either.”
“You know him quite well. He said the same as you,” I sighed, “That’s why you’re his best mate.”
Tristan dummied up and took a sip of the coffee.
I didn’t want to talk with him anymore. Emilia wasn’t here, so there was no reason for me, a supporting role, to interact with a protagonist.
After drinking the coffee in silence for 3 minutes, I went to the checkout stand.
“It’s on me.” Tristan stood up and stopped me like a gentleman.
“Okay.” I wasn’t coy because I knew such a small sum was nothing for Tristan.
When Tristan was settling the bill, I quickly left the cafe and drove away. As my car turned at the crossing, I saw him from the rearview mirror coming out of the cafe, looking in the direction my car was leaving.
I shook my head and sighed to myself. Tristan was destined to fall behind Frederic. I had helped him twice and both times were failures.
Frederic and Emilia must be destined to be together, so I thought it a waste of time to fix Tristan up with Emilia.
Just let go. Ten days weren’t that long. I could buy that.
As I expected, Frederic never returned home the following week. We were back where we didn’t get in touch with nor met each other.
I was also glad to take my time to do my own things. When Ruben was discharged from the hospital, I went to pick him up and bought him
and Emilia dinner. Then, I worked hard to practice piano to pick up my piano skills. Also, I took vitamins and had meals prepared by Kira every day, and I added 1 kilogram.
“Syl, what did you do recently? You look so well and even have pink- and-white cheeks!” at the party, Greta Berger asked while pinching my cheek.
“I just have some vitamins to get into shape. Eating more and gaining weight also work,” I replied cheerfully.
“You’re humble–bragging!” Janessa snapped, “We are desperately making efforts to lose weight while you even take vitamins and have meals to gain weight?”
Cécelia patted Janessa, “That’s love weight! You should be content with it!”
Janessa’s boyfriend was really good at cooking and took good care of her.
Janessa shook her head proudly. “Envy me! Aye, that’s the advantage of dating a budget boyfriend.”
Though Janessa’s boyfriend wasn’t born into a family better than hers, he was nice, handsome, honest, and gentle, so Janessa’s family wasn’t against her being together with him.
“Janessa, if there’s any commercial performance suitable for me, call me.” It suddenly dawned on me that I needed to make my own career. Being at home was too boring for me
