Chapter 44
Denver.
As I walked out of Gina’s apartment and headed towards the main house, I couldn’t help but feel this intense pain close to my heart.
I have recently been having these pains, but they are usually very mild.
Often, I would just ignore it, but what has been happening recently makes me want to be extra careful to ensure everyone around me is safe.
I kept wondering why I was having this pain, and my first instinct was to go back and check up on Gina.
On getting there, I found her sound asleep, and then my next point of call was to check on my parents.
I sent my father a mind link to ask how he was doing, and he said he was alright and was with my mom.
Even though the pain had been minimized by now, it was still there.
So, I decided to send a mind link to Derrick. He answered to tell me he was fine and that he was headed my way.
Within minutes, we met, and he asked me what the problem was. I told him of the pain I had been having, and even he seemed concerned.
“Have you called to check up on Devon?” he questioned.
“No, I haven’t,” I answered, and I immediately sent a mind link to Devon.
Strangely, he doesn’t respond.
“He is not responding,” I said to Derrick.
“When last did you see him?” Derrick inquired.
“When we left Father’s chambers after the meeting after, Father sent you both on errands,” I said to him.
“Yeah, we were going when he changed his mind and asked me to go and that he needed to spend some time with Gina,” Derrick said.
“I was with Gina earlier; I just left her place,” I said as realization dawned on me.
Could it be that he walked it on me and Gina, making out, and got upset?
f**k!
“We need to find him,” I said to Derrick.
“What happened?” Derrick inquired with a voice laced with concern.
“I think he may have seen Gina and me making out,” I said subconsciously, running my hand over my hair to create a messy look.
“Oh f**k, just when I thought I was the only one who gets jealous every time that happens, should I alert the pack guards?” he questioned.
“There is no need for that; if truly he is angry or jealous, there is only one place he can be; let’s go find him,” I said to Derrick as we both headed out into the woods.
At that moment, it made sense to me that the reason I have been having these pains is that he was probably jealous after seeing me and Gina.
After about thirty minutes of running and jogging through the woods, we could finally pick up his scent as we got closer to one of the streams surrounding our packs.
From a distance, we could see him seated on one of the small hills at the river bank and throwing little stones into the stream.
This particular stream was special to Devon because he also came here as a child to cool off wherever he was angry or throwing one of those tantrums.
Coming to find him here kind of brought back memories of us as kids; we were always together and always pleased.
The pack members could hardly tell us apart whenever one of us had some kind of mischief, and we had some wonderful times together as kids.
Devon, being the youngest of the three of us, threw the worst type of tantrums. And when no one would listen to him, he would come down here to make us look for him or just to punish my mother.
“Hey!” I called out to him as we got closer to him.
If he was surprised to see us, he didn’t show, as he just kept throwing little stones into the stream.
“Are you alright?” Derrick questioned us as we moved closer to him.
At Derrick’s voice, he stopped to spare us a glance before returning his attention to the stream.
We finally got to where he was, and we both sat on each side, making him sit in our midst.
Somehow, listening to nighttime sounds soothes my anxiety, and watching the moon’s reflection in the water was very soothing.
We all just sat there, enjoying the calmness and, for once, realizing how much we had missed spending time together as brothers.
“This stream always brings that relaxing and nerve-calming feeling,” Derrick said after some time.
“Yeah, it does, doesn’t it?” Devon said while letting out a deep sigh.
“What’s bothering you, brother? Why not let us in?” I said to him.
He looked at me and smiled with a shrug. “As if you care,” he said, throwing one of the tiny stones with him into the water.
“What makes you think I don’t care? You had me worried when you weren’t responding to your mind link,” I said to him.
“I am sorry if I disturbed you from being with our mate; you might as well go back now,” he said, throwing a stone into the water.
“You were there, weren’t you?” I questioned.
“What does it matter? She likes you more than she does me, so you can go be with her,” he said.
“And here I was thinking I may have lost her to you and Derrick,” I said to him.
“Puff, stop playing,” he said.
“No, I am not; don’t get it wrong, I know that Gina and I have a lot of s****l tension between the both of us, but other than that, I can’t say anything else for sure,” I said.
“Lucky you, she only likes me because I am funny. Like I am some sort of comedian or something,” he said with a puff sound at the end.
“But she likes that you always put her needs first,” I said to Devon, who seemed surprised to hear me say that.
“You guys are lucky; she even likes you both for something; I can’t tell why she might even like me,” Derrick said, with his voice somewhat down.
“You are a playboy, and every girl likes you, but I have to work hard for her to even notice me,” Devon replied.
“I wish that was true; I don’t think she has forgiven me for cheating on her with Gwen. Every time I try to be intimate with her, she stops midway and tells me that she is not ready. It usually drives me crazy when I think of the fact that she might be having s*x with you guys,” Derrick said.
“She is not having it with me; yes, we have made out many times, but we have never really gotten there. But I am sure she allows our big bad Alpha brother to do whatever he wants,” Devon said, and their gazes shifted to mine.
“I think we all are in the same boat; she hasn’t allowed me either; she keeps saying something about waiting for the right time,” I said to them.
“Wow, it feels great knowing that we are all even,” Devon said with a chuckle.
“And I think that is a problem. I mean, if all we have been doing is making her notice us as individuals, which so far has not helped us, I think we should work together to create the perfect moment for her to let us in. I don’t know if I am alone on this. But I f*****g want to ruin her every f*****g time I see her with you both, and I also kind of imagine all of us doing s**t with her,” Derrick said.
“I haven’t thought about it, but I think it might be a great idea.” Devon agrees with Derrick.
“But I think she’s holding back due to some personal reasons best known to her,” Derrick said.
“I may be wrong, but I think the reason she is not feeling so connected with all three of us just yet is that we are letting ourselves get jealous over nothing. I mean, she is ours; we all could have gotten our separate mates, but the goddess gave us her. And that is because she is more than enough to please all three of us at the same time. So, it makes no sense to be jealous of each other; what we should be doing is making her have a taste of what being mated to all three of us feels like,” I said to them.
“You are right; I can’t imagine how difficult it must have been for her to try to please us individually,” Derrick said.
“Yeah, it must have been really difficult. But all that ends now. I would suggest we take her out for a little vacation. I feel a lot has happened lately, and a change of environment and being secluded with her three hot mates will help fix her up,” Devon said.
“I love that idea,” Derrick said.
“Good. I will leave you guys to figure out where you think would be the perfect romantic getaway,” I said to my brothers, who were looking a lot more cheerful now.
Honestly, I never really thought that talking things out with my brothers would be so calming and relaxing.
“Okay, I just want to get this out of my chest,” Devon said, and his words subconsciously made me and Derrick stare at him.
“What is it?” I questioned.
“Remember that day we went hunting, and we searched and searched until nightfall, and we couldn’t get any kills?” he questioned, and I sort of immediately knew where he was heading with that question.
“Oh, I remember, but you did kill a deer,” Derrick said recollectively.
“Yeah, about that, I wasn’t the one that killed it; I found it dead. I just wanted to be the one that won and get to spend the night with her,” he said, shyly playing with his brows.
“You slimy son of a biscuit, you had us fooled,” Derrick said, laughing while playfully using his hand to roughen Devon’s hair as they both laughed.
“He didn’t have me fooled because I knew,” I said to him with a straight look.
My sudden serious look and tone seemed to have my two brothers tensed as they both stared at me.
“How did you know?” Devon inquired.
“I killed the damn deer, fool,” I said, chuckling so hard.
My revelation seemed to surprise Devon for a moment, but he too started smiling after realizing it.
“It makes sense now; I mean, who would kill a deer and leave it out there? It feels good to know that we are no longer in competition with each other,” he said, and I couldn’t agree more with him.
“There is one more problem, though,” I said to them, and they all turned to look at me.
“Samuel. What do you guys think?” I questioned them.
“I, for one, don’t think he did it,” Derrick said.
“Me too, but I do feel that some sort of shady business went down between him and Gwen, and she is trying to get rid of him,” Devon said.
“What type of business would Gwen do with Samuel to warrant her putting him on the chopping board?” Derrick inquired.
“Well, brothers, there is only one way to find out,” I said as I stood up from where I was seated, and my brothers joined me.
“Let’s go and ask him,” I said, and they both agreed with me.
