Chapter Derek (2)
A dark-haired man, with amber eyes. Ethan. The Mall. A soft bed, and pain. So much pain. Blinding me. Soft whispers in my ear. Somebody holding my hand and rubbing it soothingly. Sweating. Fever hitting so hard I couldn’t see reality from nightmares. Screaming but my voice, was hoarse and gone. Was I dead? Soothing water running down my throat, a cold towel on my head.
Chocolate and Mint. Pain. So much of it, I floated on it. Ribs cracking and healing. Leg cracking again. Darkness, lightness. Oak, I need a hug! Drifting somewhere in between. That dark-haired man. Soft eyes I knew so well. I knew those eyes, didn’t I?
Sebastian’s laugh. It made me float higher. I would always fly when he’s near me.
Dreams of my dad and Malin. Running towards me on that shore I nearly drowned on. Where was Jax? I loved you Jax. Why would you do that to me?
Screaming again. Kicking so hard my head knocked something off the side of the bed. I needed to get out of here. I couldn’t breathe. Where was I? I couldn’t see.
Why was the light so bright? Why do my teeth hurt? Cold, so incredibly cold. Shivers that never ended. A warm body next to me. A kind touch. Too hot, I couldn’t even find relief from it.
Sweat covered everything. Everything hurt. Every small movement, even the blinking of my eyes. There was screaming again. Who screams so much? It hurts my head. Dosch, I miss you.
I was running down the track around the academy. Seeing Ash. Seeing Otto. That screaming again. Andrew, where are you? Screaming and Screaming. It was me. I was screaming. Screaming so loud I-
I blinked. A cup was raised to my mouth and I was suddenly parched. ’Easy… easy….Reina. easy.’ I gulped the cool liquid down in one gulp. Shaking from the effort and flopping back down again. I blinked a few times to clear my eyes. I smelled pine trees and winter furs. It smelled like Leo actually. I looked to my right and that guy was sitting there. The guy named Derek.
He had dark, rowdy hair, and an unruly beard. The strangest, most intense eyes I had ever seen. He looked familiar, probably somebody I had passed numerous times somewhere, probably on campus, yet a man this intriguing, the unorthodoxly handsome, I would have remembered.
He softly smiled at me. Seemingly shyly. ‘You are awake.’ He stated, elated with that fact. I blinked again. ‘W-where…’ my voice cracked so I had to try again. ‘Wh-where am I?’ I was still vaguely aware of a dull headache and a weirdly aching body, but it wasn’t hurting anymore. It felt more like those growing pains from when you were a child. I also now remembered I had already asked that question.
‘You are safe.’ He simply stated. His voice was a deep, soothing one. His eyes were intensely on me. I tried to scramble upwards. Now realizing I was wearing this weirdly looking kaftan thing, which looked more like a potato sack than a dress. ‘No.. no… stay down.’ He raised his hands, not wanting to impose himself on me. I appreciated that. After all those men who had assaulted me lately. I sank back down warily. ‘Who are you? Do we know each other..?’ I wasn’t sure. Yes, I knew him.
He smiled softly again. Sitting beside me on the bed. He took a deep breath. ‘You know me, Lux… you do.’ He glanced at me again. Waiting on me to realize.
