Chapter 4
Gunner POV
I paced around in my room with my thoughts all gumbled up..
Would he be angry with me?? Would he hate me now for keeping it from him??Did I do something wrong??
All these thoughts played on my mind ,that I failed to hear the knocks on my door. I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard a loud bang.
"What!!" I basically yelled as I ripped the door open only to find my brother looking very troubled.
"What did he say?" I asked taking in his appearance.
He seemed to be deep in thought that he didn't even hear my question. I waved my hand infront of his face to get his attention. It was only then that he realized that I was standing infront of him.
"Sorry I was thinking" He said as he came into my room and closed the door behind him. He stayed facing the door for a few minutes before he eventually turned around and faced me. He looked like he was carrying the world on his shoulders, when he looked at me.
"I need you to teach me how to fall in love" he said with an absolutely serious face that I felt a bit bad for the laughter that was bubbling inside me.
He can't be serious... I thought.
Although I could understand where he was coming from. He practically was a virgin in every sense when it came to girls....he basically knew nothing about them.... I tried my utmost best to hold my laughter in as I spoke to him...I wouldn't want him punching me in he face at any second.
"Why the sudden interest in girls now?"
"Father has given me one year to fall in love or else I will have to marry whom ever he chooses. And I will be expected to provide an heir for the crown" he said.
"One year huh? That's hardly enough time to even get to know someone .. how does he expect you to even fall in love?"
"A man's word is his honor. And since I've already given my word, that's the only time I have"
How much of a narcissist was our father?? He knew that Solveig kept to himself all the time and only socialized with his brothers. He did this on purpose to prove a point!! I was more determined, now than ever to rub it in his face when Solveig found the woman of his dreams.. the problem was... we were absolutely stuck.
"Where do we start?" I asked pinching the bridge of my nose, trying to think of an idea. It would really take a miracle to get any girl to talk to him now. But I had an advantage since I could start literally anywhere.
"Well it will have to someone with pure blood since father will never let you wed a commoner. That narrows it down to the palace girls only. "
"How about Freya? When was the last time you saw her?" He asked. I stopped whatever I was doing and just looked at him.
Did he like her??
Freya was our very beautiful, childhood friend. She was the daughter of our father's right-hand man and Solveig's bodyguard, Egon.
She was known throughout the kingdom for her astounding beauty, that captivated the eyes of many men and woman alike.
Her ruby- red hair that resembled fire, gracefully flowed past her shoulders. Her skin was pale like snow yet glossy. Her rapture-blue eyes were like the ocean that could make you drown in them for eternity. But above all, she had a joyous personality and a soothing voice.
Like us, she too was a pure blood, and would spend most of her time in her chambers, painting or singing. She hardly ever came out and when she did, every single gaze would follow her wherever she went including mine.
"I haven't seen for a few years now. Does she still stay in the palace?" He asked, when he saw that I didn't answer his previous question.
"Brother, we have so much work to do" I said placing my hand on his shoulder and leading him to my mirror. Avoiding his gaze.
"Firstly, you need to learn how to smile, your death glare sends everyone running for the hills."
It was only when I said that, that I realized, I didn't even know when was the last time I had seen my brother smile. He always walked around with his eyebrows drawn together, like he was contemplating something.
Since I can remember, he was our father in every aspect . He taught us almost everything we knew. He taught us how to fight, how to shift and control our ability... he even taught us how to read, though he wasn't really good at teaching it.
Over the years, I learned, that he was trying the fill that empty gap of our father's absence in our lives. It was no secret that our father didn't care about our wellbeing and just cared enough to know if we could shift or how strong our abilities were, other than that he was just a father in name.
Solveig did everything he could to fill that void.He spent every minute of every day with us. When I was younger and had nightmares I would creep into his bed, and he would hold me and call me "his brave little dragon".
His entire world and life, revolved around us... and in the process... he lost his identity.. I wanted more than anything to help him find his happiness...even if it meant giving up mine.
"This is stupid" he said bringing me out of my thoughts.
"No it's not.. you'll be surprised how much effect a simple thing like a smile can have on people..allow yourself to smile .. forget about the past because you can't change it. You can only learn and move forward, forget about the future, because no amount of worrying is going to change what must unfold. So forget about everything and just smile."
"When did you become so wise little brother?" He asked raising his eye brow. I gently shoved his shoulder and said
" come on. Don't change the subject. Smile!"
He turned his head to face the mirror and looked at himself before he slowly spread a small smile across his face. To my surprise, he looked very handsome. He didn't look the like same Solveig that would slit your throat at any given second.
He actually looked like the handsome prince he was supposed to be. His blue eyes radiated when he smiled making it look like sapphires against his fair skin tone.
"You're staring brother." He said with slight redness entering his cheeks.
"Soon I won't be the only one staring " I said with a smirk.
"How do I initiate uhh.." he looked everywhere but at me.. which looked like he was struggling to find the words , to what he wanted to say.. or he was just embarrassed to say it.. which could only mean one thing..
"Initiate what?" I purposely asked with a smirk.
"Uhhm.. " he trailed off and looked down before he muttered the rest of his sentence.. " physical contact"
I resisted the urge to laugh at this point. He was so nervous that it was actually funny. He might have taught me everything I know now, but I was the expert when it came to these things!!
"Brother, you just learned to let yourself smile.. physical contact will come later on. Don't rush it.. let it happen naturally."
"I don't have time to wait" he said facing me.
"That's the problem. You think that physical contact will result in you falling in love. It's your heart that needs to be touched not your body. So take it one step at a time."
Boy this is going to be harder than I thought!
