Chapter 27
Surprise Attack
“Leo, the men, are approaching the border, and they are separating. Some go east, and others go west. They hope your warriors and not separated.” Max advised Leo.
“Thank you! I will let the warriors know and have them split up. Do you know how many are going in each direction?”
“Sixty in the west and forty on the east side. The majority will be taken into your holding from the west, and only a few will come from the East. The ones in the front are the ones we need to capture and will not put up much of a fight unless they have a spell on them to kill.”
Leo mind-linked all his warriors, letting them know what was coming and be prepared to take them to the dungeons for a time. He also advised that they may be under a dark witch’s spell to fight hard till death.
“Approaching now, wait till they come further into the land than attack blindly. I see their best ones are going into hiding. The ones that need to be ‘arrested’ are on the front lines. Felix changed his attack plans. His best ones are hidden in the trees. They are known as the sleepers and the elite of their warriors. Get to take them and attack while we get the front line and get them to safety. ”
Leo’s warriors and fighters loved taking to the trees for the element of surprise and let the others know that too. The only ones who did not know this were the rogues and Felix himself. He turns out to be the stupidest alpha when it comes time to fight. Felix strides up to the center and tries to take out a few seconds, but he is more injured than his warriors. Leo and his warriors and fighters were taking down Felix’s rogues.
Max took the rogues that did not want to be fighting and had lost their packs to Felix into custody. They were let in on the secret. They were happy to be on the road to freedom and into a healthy pack with Max and Xavior. They were shown the dungeons until the fighting ended, and they understood. Food and water were waiting for them as they entered. The men, women, and some children sat and ate, waiting for the fighting to end.
Felix told his people to return to their camp to heal and discuss what they could do the next day, as Felix was still attacking Leo’s pack. He was ruthless and relentless and could not stop gaining power as he overthrew the other packs. He was surprised at how strong the opponents were. The others return to camp, Max seeks out Issy, and she talks to some female fighters and takes care of them until their wolves heal them.
“Issy, where are you?” he asks through the mind.
“By the med tent helping the females heal.”
“Meet me out towards the woods. Sneak up the trees you will find me.”
She left the females and cleaned herself up to go and meet her mate. She walked around the backside of the tent, but others were lingering around talking about the fight. She tried to hear what they were saying and opened her mind to let Max and Clara listen to them. She needed to get any intel against these people to help their cause to bring Felix and his people down. She kept scooting closer to the conversation so the others could hear through her mind.
“Felix is planning on another attack tomorrow morning early while everyone is sleeping.”
“When is he going to stop doing this? He has wiped out too many innocents and displaced many packs that survived him.”
“Wish there was something we could do to keep this from happening. I am so sick of his ways. I cannot keep going on like this.”
“We just have to play the part; we do not know who to trust in this pack. Felix’s mother is a complete psycho. It’s not even funny.”
“What about that Max guy? He is solid and seems like a good guy, alpha. What about Issy, too? She’s pretty cool and seems to be a caring person.”
“Not to mention she can kick ass too.”
Issy started to walk more toward them, making them stop talking as they did not trust anyone but were desperately seeking someone to trust and leave the group. Max was watching the scene unfold below him and knew he had to do something but did not know how to gain their trust or to tell them their fears were no longer, and they could leave for his pack or go to the castle where Clara was. Only these few rogues were not included in getting captured, as Max and Issy could not take the entire rogue camp and save them. They would have to do this in small increments.
“Oh, Hi Issy, we did not see you there.”
“Hey, guys, what is going on here?”
“Nothing much, just standing around taking, you know about this and that.”
“Hmm, well, I am going to take a gander in the woods to give my mind a break from the attack. Bye.”
“Bye, Issy.”
Issy walked into the woods and kept an eye out for the others in case they started to follow her, but they did not. She scouted a tree to climb and stalked up the side to sit on a hefty branch waiting for Max to come to her. He fixed himself behind her with his legs on either side of her pulling her into his chest. He bent down to her ear, taking in her intoxicating scent and kissing her neck and ear. It was a comfortable silence between them, taking in the sounds of the woods. Leaves rustling, crickets singing their love songs, birds settling into the evening, and elk and deer flourishing around the grounds eating their snacks. Issy let out a sigh of contentment, turning her head and tilting it to see the gorgeous eyes of her mate that held so much love and adoration for her. His head dipped down to meet her lips, where they kissed the day away and welcomed each other’s embrace.
“I cannot wait to get out of here for good, Max. I am missing my friends and family, along with Clara.”
“I know, baby, me too.”
They continued to sit silently until someone’s stomach growled so loud it scared some birds and bugs nesting nearby, including a couple of squirrels playing right by them. When they heard the noise, they stopped what they were doing, scampered off over their bodies, and headed further up the tree to their nest. They chuckled at the noise, and how it scared the two squirrels, so they got up from their perch and lowered themselves down to the ground walking hand in hand back to their camp where food was starting to be distributed amongst the rogues.
“Issy, you did great at the fight today, taking those warriors down. Where did you train like that? I want to learn those moves?” One of the men asked her.
“I was an elite warrior and trainer in my old pack, but I can show some moves when we return to the compound.”
“Great, that would be awesome if only we get back in one piece.” The man said with a laugh.
“Max, he is the one who was talking about us earlier, along with the other four sitting by him. We need to let them know somehow they can trust us.”
“Listen up, rogues, the fight left too many alive, and I want them dead, so we will head back at the break of dawn and attack again. I want that pack gone, dead do you all understand me?” Felix bellows out.
“Yes, alpha!” most of them yelled, drowning out the others who said nothing.
Some got up and headed to their tents to sleep for the night, as dawn would come way too early, and they had to figure out how to reach them without anyone taking notice of their efforts to disassemble Felix’s pack little by little. The two headed to their tent to think of a plan while Max texted Leo. Leo had to know what was happening and told him to have his men hiding up in the trees camp there tonight for the element of surprise to Felix’s troops.
Leo texted back, thanking him for the warning. Leo sent a link out to his men and women where they were fighting, letting them know where to go and placing them in different places, but this time they were heading to the end of the pack lands so that they could end the attack quickly and for good. Leo’s warriors and fighters got together in their ranks to fight the rogues that would approach. They set themselves all over the borders since they did not know which side they would come from, so they sidled themselves at every point possible to gain possible attacks on the so-called incoming pack.
They all slept until the bell rang too early in the morning so they could prepare to attach. Max shook Issy to wake her but told her they would hold up a little bit, mask themselves, and move ahead of the others to help in the attack. Max and Issy watched out for the ones who wanted this to stop since they wanted a better life and felt trapped by Felix and his gang. When the crew started to leave for the woods towards Leo’s pack, they watched to see the men grouped. They were hanging back a little, not hurrying to get where they were going.
“Man, I hate this. I wish this shit would stop. I do not even want to go.”
“None of us do. We are tired of his crap. He has the muscle to do this; why must we participate?”
Issy walks up to the guys and starts stepping in line with them, joining the conversation. Max is high in the trees watching over them and looking out for the warriors from his friend’s pack.
“I hear you guys are sick of this crap that Felix is doing to other packs?”
“Yeah, I wish it would stop, but it’s not like we have a choice as we are forced to do this.”
“Look, I am not who you think I am, but you must keep it a secret. Max and I are true fated mates, but I am here to help the princess take down Felix and his mom. You are by no means obligated to fight this fight. Max is watching and waiting for your response on what you all want to do, and he will help you escape to a very loving pack.”
They all looked at each; what do they have to lose except their lives? They looked curiously at her and followed her further into the woods towards a clearing where nobody would be except for a couple of Leo’s guards who would take these men into safety underground and protect them.
“Look up and follow Max. He will stay a couple of steps ahead of you, and when it is safe for him to come down, he will guide you to where you need to go. He will lead you to a clearing where a couple of Alpha Leo’s guards are waiting for you. You will be safe from here on out and be declared dead.”
The men took off and did one better; they went up into the trees and followed Max. He looked back over his shoulder and saw them. He felt uneasy but stayed ahead of them at least thirty feet. His scent was masked so the rogues could not find him and see how he betrayed the rogue pack. It was a way to disassemble Felix and take him down by weakening him with fewer fighters.
He led the men to the opening where the guards were waiting for him, and the others came forward.
“Here are the guards that will take you to safety, follow them, and they will take care of you. You all are free from Felix now. You can join Xavier’s, Leo’s, Clara’s, or my pack. You all do have some time to think about it.”
He left to return to the attack to help kill some more of Felix’s rogues. He tried to stay away for as long as possible until Felix showed his wolf to the small war. Max took it upon himself to attack him and keep him distracted so that the others could kill off Felix’s men. Felix is a hard one to fight since he is an alpha, but so is Max, and he has more strength and tenacity than Felix ever did. Max watched Felix fight, looking for his weak points and then attacked those points.
They danced together in a rhythm only known to wolves in a war to kill. Felix would love to kill this wolf with no scent to get him out of his way of destroying Leo’s pack. To no avail, Felix did not get his wish. Max was swifter and more brilliant on his feet and with his hands. He got several swipes in on Felix and tore plenty of flesh that would scar him for the rest of his life. Felix ran off, leaving pools of blood and a weak body heading back to the base camp. He was unhappy, but Leo got to save his pack, knowing that Felix got a taste of his medicine for once.
“Alpha Felix has been severely wounded and is in the infirmary for now. He could not function for a few hours as he was severely attacked in the line of duty. With that being said, pack up; we are heading back home. We have been defeated for the first time in years since he took over.” One of his elite warriors told the group.
