Chapter 20
Surprise Visitors
Max finished putting the devices on the vehicles the next day. Issy did not need Felix or King Matthew to visit the camp where she was. She wanted her cover to stay. Issy did not need either of the men to see her being there in the rogue camp.
“Max, what am I going to do? I only changed very little to disguise myself as a rogue; what if they recognized me? I have trained with both, especially the King, ever since I can remember?”
“There are a few things you can do: camp in the woods and wallow in the muck and mud to get extremely dirty and stinky or stay in your cabin, train like a beginner, and never shower until after they leave. But fair warning, I will not be around you no matter which option you pick.” Max is trying hard not to laugh uncontrollably.
Issy could not say a word, only holding her mouth agape like a fish out of water. She turned and walked away with that being said. Issy had to devise something else to mask herself and her scent; she could make herself invisible. Issy had to think of her options; she had a lot to sleep on in one night and set her plans into motion the next day as the entire camp was expected to meet with Felix and Matthew at breakfast.
Max and Tasha knew that Issy went way out on the limb when she showed up for breakfast with the ugliest outfit and wig she could muster up and the most god-awful makeup made out of dung that she could acquire to place all over her face and body. Flies, horseflies, and maggots were caked in the manure. Nobody sat by her, not even the King himself. Max and Tasha tried not to laugh when they saw and smelt her, but she left her stitch in her wake everywhere she walked.
“Damn girl, you stink. You need a bath.” Tasha said.
“Who let you up in here smelling like a pig pen?”
“Go take a bath, rogue.” someone told her.
Issy was getting all kinds of remarks from others in the camp; they knew her but not like this, so her disguise worked until the King and Felix showed up next to her. They had to hold their breaths in order not to smell her stench.
“Umm, rogue, we do not want to smell you around these parts, so either you a take a.) shower and show your true self or b.) get thrown out of camp permanently. It’s your choice; nobody wants to be near you.” Felix tells her, trying hard to talk and not breathe as much as possible.
“Of course, I will take care of myself, sirs. Thanks for being so concerned about my well-being.” Issy retorted back.
She rolled her eyes internally and walked between them, rubbing some of her stenches. Issy saw Max behind them, laughing with his hand covering his mouth so he could not be heard. When she walked past him, she cracked up laughing and could not stop; neither could Max, who started to walk with her.
“Guess I HAVE to shower ’cause I stink too much.”
“That was amazing how you ignored their snarky remarks and walked between the two rubbing the filth on them. I do not think there was a dry eye in there.”
Issy glares back at Max and rubs against him so that he smells like her. Before long, she would have the entire camp stinking like her, and they could never come back while she and Max were there. Issy must figure out a way for those two never to return to the camp. She had to devise a brilliant plan, and she did.
“I have it, Max. I can make everyone in this compound stink so bad that they cannot even stand themselves. Felix and Matthew would have to leave for good and never return; that way, their business would have to be done at Felix’s pack house or the King’s castle, where they can monitor everything easier.”
“That would be good, but how would you make everyone stink as bad as you?”
“Leave it up to me; that part will be easy. The hard part will be getting to the water system to infiltrate it.”
“I can get you there and cover for you to ensure nobody is coming. When do you want to do this?”
“I want to do this while the King and Felix remain here. It will not clear out until after they have been gone for three days, then everything will return to normal.”
“Damn, I have to smell like you now?”
“Uh-huh, sure do, and we will make a fine pair when it is done.”
“Can I make a suggestion? Please shower and get that shit off you first. Those larvae will put holes in your face and eat you inside out.”
Issy rolled her eyes and laughed, heading for the lake in the compound, stripped down, and ran into the water, washing herself off. All the shit was caked on her body. She found a rock that was a little rough and started scrubbing herself with it. After all the stink was off her, she swam away from where she was and rinsed off, feeling refreshed.
Max was standing on the lake’s edge, waiting for his mate, when she swam to him. She walked out and headed to her cabin with him in tow. She took a proper shower with soap and water when she went inside. Shampooing and conditioning her hair, she felt refreshed. When she put on clean clothes, they took off once again.
They laugh on their way to the water plant they have for the camp. Max stands to guard up in the trees, where he has a better eye view to see and hear who is coming down the paths. Issy gets done with her job, and she looks up at him, and he motions to hurry and come up that people are coming her way.
She clambers up the tree where he is perched, masking their scents, and puts a cloak over them where nobody can see them, but they can see and hear others.
“This is the safest place to come. Nobody ever comes out here.” Matthew whispers.
“I know someone here from your castle,” the unknown says.
“I am not missing anybody in my pack; I would know if I was. Trust me; I know every single person in there.” King Matthew sputtered.
“If you say so, Matthew, don’t be a fool. Why are you exactly here with her?”
He kicks a rock and thinks before he speaks. He is curious whether he can trust this person; he has only seen her a few times. She’s approached him about wanting to leave the camp, but he could use a spy inside to report back to him. He thinks twice about then dismisses it, he was in love with Libby, and that was enough for him.
“You would not understand we have a history together that is much bigger than anybody can fathom.”
“Well, we all know she bares your mark, and we all know she is not the true queen. What about your true mate?”
“She’s no longer alive; I killed her long ago,” he comments straightly.
“Hmm, I doubt that very much; we would all feel the loss, and nobody has yet felt that loss of our true queen.” the unknown stated.
“I swear I killed her for cheating and lying to me. I know my children are not mine except Clara. I do not want anything to do with my ex-wife, so I had to kill her.”
“What about her family?”
“They are all wiped out of existence.” trying to believe his lie.
The unknown knew the King was lying to try and save his skin, but she could not figure out how on earth he was making this stuff up or why. Why would he even say stupid crap like this anyway, unless he has a hidden agenda or hiding an illegitimate kid somewhere and does not want anyone to know about it?
Matthew and the unknown walk away, and after about fifteen minutes, Max and Issy come down from the tree and stare at each other, sending the information back to Clara. They asked to look into this, trying to figure out what to do or think about the news. But these two would have to do some investigation on their own. Issy knew how to do some of it, but the rest would have to be left to the cameras and videos around the pack, pack house, and in the woods.
“Issy, will the water taste funny or anything different?”
“Nope, it is very tasteless, the stench will only seep through the pores and in the wash, so there is no way of getting rid of the stinky bits off every person that lives here. We all will stink from the inside out.”
“Oh, that is just wonderful. I have always wanted to live and smell like a farm animal, especially a pig.” Max says sarcastically, rolling his eyes.
The girls laugh, but Issy knows that Tasha is the one to see Matthew by the plant that late morning or early afternoon. Issy looks at Max, letting him know she never told her about her actual pack, so he wants to see if he has told her by accident or if one of his members is there. She could have overheard him talking at some point.
“NO! I never said anything about you being from around this area, only around Europe, and that you were looking for a new pack to join. I am trying to figure out what or how she found out and why she would go to Matthew about you. Love, you no longer belong in that pack; you belong with me as my Luna.”
“I know, but I am not sure about her loyalties.”
“Let’s just go eat and see what others say about how they all smell.”
“Okay, let us go. I am starving; I could eat a cow.”
“Was that a pun?” Max laughs as he asks that.
Issy rolled her eyes as they went to eat with the rest of the group, and the food smelt fabulous, but these two knew what was going to happen and could not wait to see the reactions of the people in the camp when the stench took hold coming out of their pores.
Both kept their eyes open and ears on alert to see what the others were saying. Some are talking smack, but a few talks about King Matthew being out with a woman asking him questions. She sat there eating with her family but kept her eye on the King, Felix, and Libby while eating. Issy also thought she was a witch and needed to find a way to speak with her. She knew about their queen being alive but did not know how. When a royal passes away, usually, the council feels it along with his pack and territory as they’re all tied together. She has to be connected to them somehow.
