From Here to Ecstasy

Chapter 36 - Dumb & Dumber

Recap:

“Come on, pack. We need to get some sleep,” Griffith remarked as I walked to the packhouse with Micah and Summer.

Winter’s POV

We walked up the stairs to our room. We were holding hands, not talking. It was nice, no, it was amazing having a mate who cared about us. He reminded me of my dads when they were with mom. I didn’t understand it as a kid. I thought they were gross and I didn’t want any part of being a mate if you had to listen to your mate. But, mom did what she wanted, most of the time. So, yes, this reminds me of them.

I walked into the room and went straight to the bed, collapsing face down. I was tired and needed sleep. If Micah wanted someone he could have Autumn. I was so damned exhausted I didn’t think I could keep my eyes open for any longer.

“Come on, sleepyheads, let’s lay down and get some rest. I know you both are exhausted. I’ll give you a break until later, okay?” Micah asked us as he wiggled his eyebrows.

I grunted out my reply, sounding as if I were a caveman. Autumn agreed instantly. I guess she was as tired as I was. I was praying to the Moon Goddess for us to get some sleep - some uninterrupted sleep. I knew I wouldn’t be any good to anyone as tired as I was. I needed to reboot my energy and sleep would help.

Micah laid between Autumn and I and tangled his legs with Autumns, his arm over my waist. I don’t know how he remembered how he slept with us each time we laid down, but he would cuddle up with me one time and then cuddle up with Autumn the next time we went to sleep. He must have a photogenic mind.

We had been asleep for five hours when I woke up with a start, not knowing what was going on. I laid my head back and asked for my wolf to listen. But, after a second I knew what was going on. I guessed it was my time to shine, using my extra power. I hadn’t told anyone about my power, but Autumn knew I had one. I never told her what it was I could do.

I heard a creak of a floorboard, meaning they were on the landing upstairs. I had mapped out the house, making sure I knew where the squeaks were. They were quiet, just not quite enough. I saw Autumn cut her eyes to me as I held my finger to my lips. She nodded and I teleported behind dumb and dumber, Autumn waiting on my signal.

I jumped into a guy who didn’t look as if he knew where he was. I knew he would be the weakest one. I was going to use the mouth of the man after I read his memories. I wanted to know how they got inside and up the stairs. Griffith usually sets an alarm on the windows and doors.

“Walk quieter, you idiot. Why did she send you with me?” The big guy whispered.

“I don’t understand why we’re here? What are we supposed to be doing again?” The guy I had taken over his body asked as I turned us around to the big guy.

“Idiot, we are here to kill the girls first and then the Alpha. She wants them dead, and she wants the she-bitch to be taken down a notch. I don’t ask her why. She’s a powerful bruja. So, zip your lips before you get us caught.”

“But, how do we get back to her? I can’t remember and if we get separated I don’t want to be wandering the forest forever. We should have left bread crumbs,” I spoke through the man, pissing off the big guy.

“I suggest you don’t get separated from me. But, if you do then you go to the pack with the big sign that’s red and black. It’s east of here. I suggest you remember to go to the right. Come on and quit asking questions.” I raised a finger, letting him know I had one more question. “What is it now?”

“How are we going to kill them?”

“With the gun in your pocket. Don’t touch the bullets they’re silver,” the big guy told him as he rolled his eyes. “Let’s go.”

I followed them, letting Autumn know they had guns loaded with silver, not that it would hurt any of us. I wasn’t sure if the bruja had added some kind of magic to the bullets. I didn’t want to know right then. I needed to make sure everyone was safe. I didn’t want a stray bullet to hit anyone.

Now, Autumn, bring Micah with you but stay invisible for a minute. I want to see if both men fire their gun in our doubles, okay?” I asked as I felt her teleport beside me. I nodded my head at her and Micah. I wanted them to know I knew where they were. I had already separated myself from the man. His mind was all over the place. I got a read on him, just not much.

I watched the men slowly open our door, quietly slipping in, us behind them. The big guy fired, hitting Autumn’s double. I noticed the guy I had jumped had put his gun back into his pocket, not wanting to kill anyone.

“What are you doing? Fire at her.”

“No. I don’t want these people to die. It’s not right.” He shook his head. “And, you call me stupid.”

The big guy raised his gun to the other man. “You do know this will kill you, even if you could get the bullet out fast. The magic in the bullet and the poison the bruja used will kill you instantly.”

“I don’t care. Shoot me, but I’m not killing anyone,” the little guy adamantly refused as he closed his eyes and waited for the shot that would kill him.

Micah grabbed the big guy as I teleported the man out of the danger zone. By the time I looked back, Micah and Autumn had bound the guy and taken his gun. I hoped they knew I wanted to keep their guns. I wanted the bullets tested after we took away the spell.

“Let go of me, bitch!” The big guy shouted as he struggled to getaway.

I felt my mom enter our bedroom. “What the fuck is going on here?”

Shit!
