Chapter 100 - Rat?
Recap
I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. I had to chuckle at him saying he would be right beside me. I knew he had seen the spells I could cast. How I could fight before my wolf merged with me. I knew it was going to be a rough few days but I knew it would be okay with Ares by my side.
Windy’s POV
Ares pulled into his arms and snuggled with me as I set wards all around my room, making sure to spell the walls, too. I didn’t trust easily. I didn’t want anyone to be able to take my mate away from me.
“Not going to happen,” my wolf, Star, growled in my mind. I had to agree with her. I wasn’t going to let happen and I had a way of keeping track of him just in case things sideways.
“Quit thinking so hard and go to sleep, Windy. We can think about things tomorrow. I know we have a lot to learn and do, but not tonight.” Ares snuggled even more and I sighed and closed my eyes.
I fell asleep with a smile on my face and my mate in my arms. I was happy Star didn’t have to wait on her mate for years. I knew she was too. She had been bugging me since we met our mate to let her come out and play, but I didn’t trust her with our body. I knew what she had on her mind and I wasn’t sure my body could handle the aftereffects. I wouldn’t be able to walk the next day or keep steady on my feet. I could remember when my mom told us a Justice and what she did.
Nope.
Maybe?
I was dreaming, but it wasn’t a dream at all. I realized I was having another premonition. I was hoping I wasn’t flopping all over the bed, but right now I needed to watch and see what it showed me. The vision scared me. The vision let me know what was in store for us in the next couple of days. But, I knew my visions were open to interpretation. If one single person does something different then the vision is subject to change. I kept notes in my head. I would need to share this vision with all of my family. It would affect them just as much as us.
I opened my eyes and checked my watch, noticing it a little before two a.m. I teleported a drink to my bedside table and took a sip of the water as best I could. Ares was holding on to me tightly and he was almost doused in cold water, especially when he grabbed me tighter. I decided I needed sleep more than water. I closed my eyes and fell asleep easily. Being in my mate’s arms was relaxing, thrilling, and tingly. I loved the tingles I got from him. I needed to clear my head of all my thoughts and sleep - which is exactly what I did.
I woke with a jolt about three in the morning. I looked over to make sure Ares was okay and found him with his finger to his lips, nodding towards a corner of our room. I narrowed my eyes and waited to see what was going on. I could hear scratching and tapping on the wall. My heart was calm, my breathing normal, my eyesight better than ever, along with my hearing. I didn’t even have to concentrate. Maybe it was a new power. I really didn’t care what it was, I was thankful for the warning system.
The person on the other side was knocking on walls of the tunnel that would be used by us in case of an emergency. I didn't know why I knew what was going on but I did. We would need to make new ones and block these off. There had to be a record of the tunnels. I was sure Dean told this assassin where the tunnel was to get to us.
It was quiet for a few minutes and I thought they had left, but the tapping started all over again. What the hell was this person’s problem. I knew it was a person by smell, although they did a good job of covering their sent. It was the reason I couldn't catch the scent of what smelled like shit. It wasn’t a rat but it was a rat - a rat I was going to put down hard. Good Goddess, I only one night to ourselves but I guess it was too much to ask for.
"Who do you think it is, Windy?” Ares asked me through our mind-link.
I shrugged my shoulders. ”We will find out soon enough. Just watch and see why you don’t mess with the Beta female.”
He turned his head and looked me in the eye, almost laughing out loud by the look I had on my face. Of course, I was giving him my innocent face - the one I used on Dean. I was positive Ares knew I was up to no good. I guess he would see me in action. I couldn’t wait to see what powers he will get on top of the power from my bloodline. I was curious about his powers to come. I knew at least one would close to something I could do, well, I think. I know my parent's powers were close to the same.
"Head up your ass. Check. Pay attention, Windy!" My wolf angrily yelled as I rolled my eyes internally.
He smiled at me. “I know you’re up to no good but what did-”
I chuckled darkly and lowly. "Watch and learn, my mate."
“Fuck me!” Someone yelled as I snickered at what happened to him or her.
As soon we smelled burning flesh, we got up from the bed and I dressed us quickly, using a spell, shocking the hell out of my mate. I raised an eyebrow at me, laughing at his reaction. We walked over to the wall and I smiled at my mate, a smile that meant trouble for the person behind the wall. I knew the person was in serious pain, hell, I used a little bit of silver and wolfsbane in my spell. I wanted to make sure the person was down for the count.
I didn’t wait to find the lever on our side, no, I used my magic and opened the wall, looking down at the pathetic person on the ground. “Well, well, what do we have here? Came to assassinate us in our sleep. How’s your plan coming along?” I asked sarcastically, crossing my arms across my chest, anger coating my face and words.
I watched as Ares picked up the person off the floor...
A/N: Yeah, yeah, I did it again. I gave you one chapter in between my last cliffhanger.
Who do you think the rat is?
Sorry about the short chapter but I made a mess of things in the last chapter and this one. Thank you, @oddball for your eagle eyes.
