Chapter 7: Angry Lycan King
ADRIANA'S POV
I strain my ears to hear their conversation but I can’t make out what they are saying but they were still talking, they look a bit more aggressive now. I curse and start pacing around the room. Even though I wanted to blame him for everything that was happening, this wouldn't have happened if he'd just let me go when I told him, before they got here. I knew this would happen. He just didn't understand, or he didn't want to.
I was surprised he still wanted to fight for me instead of turning me in, I was just trouble for him. Their voices get louder, I get up and walk toward them again. It seemed like the guards were trying to search the house.
Aiden didn't agree to it and they immediately reach the conclusion that he is indeed hiding something, they try to push over him and he resists. One of them tries to hit him and that causes a fight to break out.
I watch in horror as Aiden fights the men, my heart racing as I realize that I am in even more danger now. My feet drags me out, still staying out of their sight but also outside the bedroom. I'm aware it is dumb but the fear of some of them entering through another part of the house made me leave. Aiden shifted into his wolf form, his muscles rippling with power as he snarled at the five werewolves standing before him. They bared their teeth and lunged at him, but Aiden was ready for them. Lycans were slightly different from us werewolves when they shifted. They are bigger and more scary looking than normal wolves, they look more savage and primal than them. Just the sight of them screams violent. They had sharper senses than we werewolves and they were a lot stronger. He fought with precision, his strength unmatched, his claws tearing through their fur and flesh as he expertly took down each of them. The other guards were no match for Aiden, who had skill and experience on them. He makes them look like rookies.
As the last werewolf guard from my father's Pack falls to the ground, Aiden lets out a triumphant howl. He had won the fight and protected me from the threat of the guards. His fur was bloodied, and he was panting slightly from the exertion.
He releases a menacing grow! that makes the few wolves that weren't fully passed out retreat. He disappeared down in between a few trees and I quickly started walking out, scared of being away from his sight. As soon as I make it out of the door, I see him walking back toward me in his human form, changed into a fresh set of clothes.
He didn't need to say a word, he just stretched his hand out for me. I didn't think twice before accepting, and we started to run.
As we ran deeper into the woods, my legs began to feel heavy and my breath grew short. Aiden didn't seem to be slowing down but I was seconds away from toppling over. I tried to tug his hand to tell him I couldn't breathe, when I stumbled on a stray branch and fell to the ground.
The small whimper I let out gains Aiden’s attention and he stops, he turns back towards me, concern etched on his face.
"Are you okay?" he asks, his voice laced with worry, he gives me his hand which I take gratefully and he pulls me to my feet.
I shake my head, my eyes sting and I let the tears gush out.
"l can't go on," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I'm sorry, Aiden." At that moment every insulting word my father and brothers, and even everyone in the pack said came back to me full force, and I felt like they were right.
I was just a good for nothing, weak omega. I couldn't do anything right, not even saving my own life.
Aiden crouches down and scoops me up in his arms. "It's okay,” he said, his voice soothing, it silenced the mean ones in my head calling me names and reminding me I wasn't good enough. "I'll carry you. We can't stop now, they must already be on their way.”
“But you can"
"Hold on tight," he says, cutting me off. "I won't let you fall.” he assures..
I wrap my arms around his neck and hold on to him like my life depends on it. Keeping stride, he runs through the woods, the wind brushing through us and adding to the rush of adrenaline I was feeling.
I open my eyes when he suddenly stops, my heart instantly starts beating faster for an entirely different reason.
Aiden growls out, the sound filled with anguish. His hold on me tightens as he lowers himself to the ground. When he is sure I wouldn't be hurt if I fall, he releases me and I roll on the ground. I quickly get up and try to rush to him when I feel it too
A strong alpha aura that has me freezing right where I stand takes over the entire place. I shudder with fear as realization dawns on me.
Lycan Alphas can use their aura to manipulate whoever they want. It could only mean one thing. My heart sinks and I look around with my eyes bulging, waiting for him to appear out of nowhere and drag me back to my father's pack. That is if he doesn't kill me first.
Terror overrides my common sense as I turn toward Aiden, the fear clearly showing in my eyes. "It's him," I whisper. “He is here.”
He seems to know exactly who I mean, and I watch the recognition flash in his eyes as he understands the severity of the situation. The person I had been running away from. I'm sure he is feeling betrayed now, as I have made him betray his king.
“You should go,” Aiden managed to whisper, his voice sounding low. I shook my head, tears rolling down my cheeks. I couldn't leave him here, he would be killed without being given a moment to defend himself. All he did was try to help me.
“I can't="I'm in the process of saying that when I feel the energy change around us. It wasn't peaceful before, but right now, it was downright terrifying.
I shiver like a cat in the cold when his hulking figure emerges from the darkness, his eyes glowing a weird shade of golden mixed with black.
Alpha Xander! I knew it but seeing him made a sudden terror roll through me.
"You can't run from me, Adriana," he growled, sounding every bit pissed off right now. My legs quivered as my eyes landed on him, standing on the clearing he appeared from. His stance was threatening, he looked like he was just waiting for me to make a stupid move.
I couldn't run, he was faster and Aiden was here. I wouldn't heave him alone.
"You belong to me now.” There was a dangerous and cruel smirk on his face, he stood only a few feet away from me before brushing back his raven black stray from his forehead. His obsidian eyes held nothing but promise of agonizing torture as he glowers down at me.
Alpha Xander's eyes move to Aiden who still hasn't gotten up from the ground, he releases a menacing chuckle.
“Your name!” He commands the man on the floor. I watch Aiden’s body shake as he probably tries to defy his order. In the end, he gives in and calls out his name.
"Aiden Caliver.” Alpha Xander makes a sound at the back of his throat, like he was registering the name on his head.
“Well, Aiden, I'll give you two options. Explain what you're doing with my future wife or try something stupid and die.” his voice sounded casual, like he didn't just threaten to kill someone. "And you, dear future wife,” he turns toward me, his smile chilling me to the bones. “I hope you know your mistake is one I'll not overlook, or forgive.” his voice was even colder when he said the second word if that was possible.
I stare at the man, speechless and scared of doing something so little as breathing.
“I do not fancy repeating myself, but if you force me too, that will have its consequences.” he turns back to Aiden who is still on the ground. Writhing in pain, don't know what he is doing to him but he looks pale.
I steal a glance at him and note the discreet move of his head. I try to shake mine but he closes his eyes, telling me not to argue. I somehow understand what he is saying, and when he gets off his back in one swift move, I make a run for it.
I hear Xander's angry growl from close behind me but I don't wait to see. I think Aiden attacks him but I don't stop to confirm, I just do as he silently commanded. I run
I'm running between treelines, not even looking at where my feet are landing. My brain registered only one word and that was to run, and it did just that.
I hear the loud heavy footsteps behind me and something sinks in my stomach. I panic and I try to push myself harder, I try to force my aching legs to go faster.
I don't make it another minute before I feel a large body colliding with mine, tackling me to the ground. I cry out in pain as my hand makes a sickening sound.
“That was very stupid of you, little wolf.” Xander's angry face comes into view. He grips both of my hands and pins them above my head. I wiggle from beneath him, trying to somehow throw him off though he had to weigh at least two hundred pounds. I'm not successful at all.
"Get away from me,” I cry out, still fighting. The hand that was restraining mine tightens and I scream louder when the pain shoots up my arm. I think I dislocated one arm.
“Shut up!” he commands and I shake in fear, just from the deep baritone of his voice.
When I see that fighting him is fruitless, I stop. “Please just let me go,” I said before I broke down, crying.
“You are asking for one thing I cannot and will not give you, dear wife.” His voice was unforgiving as he narrates. I shake my head, hot tears streaming down the sides of my face.
I turn, resuming my pathetic attempt at trying to free my hand. I catch a little movement on my right and I freeze, I don't get to make sense of what it is before a large wolf comes hurtling. He pushes Xander off me.
"Aiden, no!" I screamed at him at the top of my lungs to stop, but it was too late. He was already making a run for it, before he could get to the man that he'd thrown so hard, he was at a little distance away from us, i see him shake and change into a magnificent black wolf, if i thought Aiden was big before, then alpha Xander was almost twice the size of him.
“Run, please.” I choke out, coughing violently as I try to force the words out. I needed him to surrender and not try to fight Xander. He was merciless, and ruthless, and this was exactly what he was looking for.
There is no way Aiden is coming out of that fight alive.
