FOREVER KNIGHTS: #15 Insatiable Beasts

Chapter Next To Me

Meralee slept deeply next to Lucien.

First real sleep she’s had in a fortnight, I think.

He could imagine that after rushing through the woods at a headlong pace, evading white knights, and dealing with the wonderful hospitality of innkeepers, she was likely mentally exhausted.

Yet next to me, her villain, she sleeps. Irony in that.

She sighed softly and nestled tighter to him.

He tuned into her sleeping thoughts and found her thinking she was leaning closer into the dragon.

But when she didn’t feel the weight and scales she expected, she awoke blearily. Registering it wasn’t a dragon limb wrapping her waist. But an unclothed man’s. And they were covered with something which felt unfamiliar.

She rolled slowly onto her back, looking at Lucien, eyes closed as he breathed softly behind her. Her eyes moved slowly over his body. Noticing one dark wing rose over his shoulder and warmly covered her torso and legs. She pushed it lower to lean up and see over his shoulder. Noticing the other large wing folded down his back and legs. His glistening black mane shined almost blue in the sunlight. Curling locks fell over his face.

She thought that in his sleep he looked more boyish then dangerously attractive.

Thanks for that. I think. He was carefully still. Forcing himself not to move as he felt the brush of her fingers gripping one lock along his forehead. Twining it around her finger.

She wondered what it’d feel like to have her fingers tangled in them while he kissed her.

His eyes snapped open. What a delightfully lascivious little mind she has.

He raised to an elbow, alertly. The dark gray wing retracting from over her and blocking her view of him briefly as he pulled it around behind him. His eyes were dark amber as they ceaselessly roved her face. He leaned over her. Those gray wings framing the both of them as they rested on the ground near their shoulders, like a shelter.

Her soft brown eyes stared up at him in surprise a moment before his lips touched hers. Coaxing her into a sensual kiss.

Her eyes closed as she slowly began to respond. Not as immune to me as she’d have me think.

When he finally parted from her, she blinked quickly to gather her shattered composure.

He watched her face, a hairsbreadth from her. “What are you thinking, woman?”

She dampened her lips. “I-I am not sure.” She cocked her head at him. “What are your?”

That I’d like more of a taste. But he sensed telling her that would chase her off just as quickly as she’d warmed to him.

He laughed, darkly.

“Perhaps I shouldn’t have asked.” She chewed her cheek and when she swallowed his eyes followed the movement of her throat.

He dropped to leave a trail of feathery kisses there. Moving down her collarbone.

She moaned quietly.

He drew a quick breath through his teeth as he withdrew.

She shivered as the cold touched her when he rolled away. Her wide eyes showed her surprise that he was pulling away.

He tugged her up with him. Closing his eyes in a slow blink made black cloth climb from his ankles and weave in dark tendrils up his limbs. White overtook the tendrils as they wound around his torso. In moments he stood before her dressed immaculately in his white shirt and black breeches.

He collected his polished boots and slipped them on.

Her gaze lingered on him wonderingly.

But he’d broken with her thoughts to will on clothes and missed her last ones. Much to his disappointment she spun and began walking away before he could discover what was on her mind as she looked at him so strangely.
