Chapter 20
Chapter 20 Where Have You Been?
Getting Camila’s assurance, Gideon felt that he hadn’t misjudged her. But at the same time, he was worried that Maxwell would regret it if he missed out on a girl like this.
At that moment, Camila’s phone rang. Dewitt called to ask her to sign the papers before the surgery.
Camila then realized that Hudson had not even come here in the morning.
Gideon saw Camila’s anxiety and told her to go ahead if she had an emergency. He said he would be fine waiting here alone.
The International Department was far away from the hospital building where Gemma was, so Camila asked the nurse to look after Gideon and left, thinking she’d be back soon.
Grandma’s surgery was risky, so Dewitt explained as much as he could to Camila. Before she knew it, half an hour had passed.
Suddenly, her phone rang.
Camila quickly picked it up. Before she could speak, Maxwell’s cold voice came through the phone.
“I don’t care where you are now. If I can’t see you in five minutes, you don’t need to
come back.”
After that, Maxwell hung up.
Camila got up and ran outside. She could hear the suppressed anger in Maxwell’s voice. Something must be wrong with Gideon.
Dewitt, not knowing what was wrong, came right after her.
The two arrived at the International Department out of breath. They saw Maxwell standing in the doorway of the emergency room.
“What happened to Grandpa?” Camila asked anxiously.

“Where have you been?” Maxwell’s face was angry. “I left Grandpa to you, and you left him alone. Do you know that he just fainted in the lounge? If I hadn’t gotten
there in time…”
“I’ve only been away for a while. How did that happen?”
“Away for a while? The nurse said you were gone for at least forty minutes.” Maxwell’s eyes were scarlet. “Camila, since you can’t take good care of my grandpa, you should have told me before marriage.”
“Sir, no one wanted this to happen. You shouldn’t put all the blame on Camila.” Dewitt was a little agitated.
Maxwell looked at Dewitt coldly. “She was with you just now?”
“Yes, she is my patient’s family member. Just now, I was telling her about the patient’s surgery risks.”
“Really?” Maxwell recognized Dewitt as the man who had driven Camila back that night. “So what are you doing here now?”
“You want to help her?” Maxwell got furious. “What the hell is your relationship?”
“Maxwell, don’t misunderstand us. This is all my fault. It has nothing to do with Dr. Booker.” Camila had always felt that although Maxwell was not good at saying nice words, his temper was quite mild. She had never seen him so grumpy.
Even when he got angry with her over the prenuptial agreement, he wasn’t as intimidating as he was now.
Camila was clearly scared.
“I’m asking about your relationship.” Maxwell’s voice rang throughout the hallway, startling Camila.
Dewitt was also slightly startled, but he tried to explain, “Ms. Lambert is just my patient’s family member. I followed her here because … I was worried about her… She just got a call and ran out. I thought something big had happened.”
“You are in no position to worry about her.” Maxwell yanked Camila over possessively. “I’m her husband. Mind your own business.”
“You’re married?” Dewitt looked at Camila in shock and disappointment.

“Yes.” Camila saw the shocked look on Dewitt’s face, confused.
“I’m sorry. I was nosy today.” Dewitt turned away gloomily.

As soon as Dewitt left, Maxwell immediately let go of Camila, and then, he coldly turned around and walked to the door of the emergency room.
At that moment, an Oclian doctor, who was Gideon’s attending physician, came out of the emergency room.
The doctor spoke to Maxwell in Oclian. Maxwell could only use Oclian in daily communication, so he didn’t understand some medical terminology.
He didn’t expect that Camila would understand it. She minored in Oclian in college and passed the language exam.
She spoke to the doctor in fluent Oclian and quickly understood Gideon’s
condition.
“What did he say?” Maxwell was surprised that Camila spoke Oclian so well.
“Grandpa’s life is not in danger for the time being, but his condition is not good. There is a special medicine in Oclia that can alleviate his symptoms a little…”
“So can we go in to see him now?”
Camila translated for Maxwell.
The Oclian doctor nodded and led the two into the emergency room.
Gideon had woken up. He saw Camila and Maxwell come in together and smiled at
them.
“I’m fine. Don’t be afraid.”
Since the interpreter of Keaton Smith, the Oclian doctor, hadn’t arrived yet, he invited both Maxwell and Camila into his office so that Camila could translate for
them.
Keaton brought out Gideon’s medical record, mentioned several key points, and gave the follow–up treatment options.
Due to Camila’s precise translation, the conversation went smoothly.
Even in the face of a world–renowned medical expert, Camila remained calm.

In the end, Maxwell and the doctor set a date for his grandfather’s surgery, as well as a follow–up treatment plan.
Keaton praised Camila’s translation and complimented her beauty in broken Mewatese, and he even wanted to hire her as his personal interpreter when he worked in the hospital.
But before Camila could answer, Maxwell politely declined.
Keaton was disappointed and got Camila’s contact information.
Based on Gideon’s health condition, the hospital suggested that he should stay for a week for a thorough physical examination.
Considering Camila’s inconvenience in taking care of Gideon, Maxwell hired a caregiver. In this way, Camila could also take care of Gemma.
Coming out of the ward, Maxwell pulled Camila.
“Thank you. I… I wasn’t very calm this morning…” Maxwell stammered, wanting to apologize for his outburst but having trouble saying so.
Camila thought that Maxwell was a little cute, so she intended to tease him.
“Did you treat Dr. Booker that way this morning because of jealousy?”
“No,” Maxwell answered quickly.
Camila was a little disappointed.
Maxwell added, “Don’t get me wrong. I just lost control of my emotions this morning. In fact, even if you like that doctor, I won’t mind. I just hope that you won’t leave my grandpa unattended next time.”
Camila’s face instantly turned pale.
She thought, “Has he not forgiven me yet? Or did he really misunderstand me?”
Camila wanted to explain it, but she gave up when she remembered the group photo she had seen in the morning.
She thought, “Since Maxwell does not care about me, what’s the use of explaining it?”

For several days in a row, Camila was by Gideon’s side during the day and stayed with Gemma at night. Maxwell avoided Camila on purpose. He always appeared after she left Gideon’s ward.
Soon, it was the day of Gemma’s surgery.
The surgery was scheduled for three o’clock in the afternoon, performed by Dewitt.
