Chapter 5
Chapter5 Housekeeper
Helene felt like Carlisle was angry. She regretted being too straightforward; she had just received the salary card and wanted to save him money, but he didn’t seem appreciative.
Listening to the “gushing” water sound made her feel drowsy.
She put away the card and took two more cold pills before changing into her pajamas and getting into bed.
She separated the bed with the blanket, leaving the outer space for Carlisle.
She had initially wanted to wait for Carlisle to come out and talk to him for a few minutes, but perhaps due to the cold medicine, she fell asleep quickly.
Carlisle deliberately spent a long time in the bathroom before coming out.
In her exhausted state, Helene felt the bed sink suddenly. But she was too tired to open her eyes and soon fell into a deep sleep, even dreaming about her grandmother.
In her dream, she hugged her grandmother with her arms around her neck, like when she was a child, cuddling up to her
neck.
Her grandmother’s embrace was warm, and the pleasant fragrance of bath lotion made her feel extremely comfortable.
But her grandmother seemed to be pushing her away, and the more she was pushed, the tighter Helene held on…

In the early morning, Carlisle was still wide awake. This woman was hanging on him, wrapping him tightly, making it impossible for him to fall asleep.
He wanted to throw Helene off the bed several times, but
when he heard her call for “grandma” in her dream, he held back.
That night, Carlisle felt more exhausted than staying up all night working.
The next morning.
Carlisle got up and prepared to go to work.
Helene was still sleeping, probably due to the cold medicine; she slept soundly.
Carlisle wanted to slap her awake.
At this moment, Matilda came in, bringing Carlisle a freshly ironed suit.
“Mr. Bamford, is Miss Lopez up?” Matilda glanced towards the bedroom.
Originally, Matilda wanted to recommend her niece, Delilah Wilson, as the wife of Carlisle in the Bamford Family.
Delilah got a Ph.D. in medicine, and she was also beautiful.
But unexpectedly, Franco didn’t even consider her niece. Instead, he posted an online advertisement to look for candidates.
This made Matilda very angry.

Last night, Franco even promised to leave the courtyard to Helene if she got pregnant with Carlisle’s child.
That whole matter kept Matilda awake all night.
She tossed and turned, feeling this good fortune should have gone to her niece Delilah.
So, early in the morning, she came up with the excuse of delivering clothes and wanted to see if they had slept together last night.
With dark circles under his eyes, Carlisle lazily took the clothes without paying any attention to what Matilda was saying.
Matilda only saw a fair arm extending outside the bed
through the crack in the door.
Seeing Carlisle yawning constantly, she concluded they must have been quite passionate last night.
She couldn’t help but feel a little sour.
“Mr. Bamford, someone from the property management came yesterday and reminded us that we need to pay the property fee for the second half of the year,” Matilda said.
“Just talk to Helene about it.”
“But…”
Matilda wanted to say something, but seeing Carlisle’s impatient expression, she kept her mouth shut.
Shortly after Carlisle left, Matilda woke Helene up by pulling the covers.

Rubbing her eyes, Helene saw Matilda standing menacingly by the bed, which startled her..
“Matilda, you scared me,” Helene sat on the bed, “can you please knock on the door next time you come in?”
“You were sleeping so soundly. Would you have heard me knocking?” Matilda retorted.
“But don’t you think it’s impolite to barge in like that?” Helene had never encountered such an overbearing housekeeper; she didn’t seem like a housekeeper but more like a tyrannical older woman.
“Alright, I won’t do that again,” Matilda rolled her eyes, “so who’s making breakfast this morning?”
“Who made breakfast before?”
“Of course, it was me. But this morning, I asked Mr. Bamford, and he said that from now on, all three meals a day will be your responsibility, Miss Lopez.”
Helene was a little puzzled.
Carlisle hadn’t told her about this.
And the housekeeper, who was paid nine thousand, wouldn’t even cook meals?
Helene glanced at Matilda, “I’ll cook, then what will you do?”
“What I do is none of your business. You take care of your tasks.”

Helene didn’t know why Matilda had a grudge against her or if it was Carlisle’s intention, but she couldn’t endure it in
silence.
As soon as Matilda heard this, she became furious.
“Why should you take my salary? It was Mr. Bamford’s idea to have you cook, not mine!”
“I’ll call Carlisle later to check,” Helene’s face darkened, “now please get out. I need to change my clothes.”
Despite her gentle appearance, Matilda didn’t expect Helene to be so difficult to deceive.
After Matilda left, Helene got up, dressed, and went to the kitchen.
The Bamford Family’s kitchen was large, resembling the kitchen of a star–rated restaurant.
Helene had been cooking since she was in her teens, so breakfast wasn’t difficult for her. Soon, she prepared a nutritious breakfast she had learned from TikTok and brought it to Franco.
Franco enjoyed it a lot and praised Helene’s cooking skills.
Matilda had intended to embarrass Helene, but unexpectedly, Helene received compliments, which left Matilda furious.
As Helene left Franco’s room, Matilda followed her.
“Miss Lopez…”

“Please call me Mrs. Bamford,” Helene said with a cold expression, feeling that this housekeeper was not worth the considerable salary.
Matilda was very reluctant but still changed her address, “Mrs. Bamford, you only made breakfast for two. What about me? If I have to handle my breakfast, I must ask Mr. Bamford to increase my salary.”
“Your salary is more than enough for you to handle all three meals.” Helene was running late for work and just turned around to leave without wasting too much time on Matilda.
Matilda suddenly grabbed Helene’s arm and said tearfully, “Mrs. Bamford, you can’t treat me like this…”
“Let go of me.” Helene was taken aback by Matilda’s sudden action, trying to pull her arm back, but unexpectedly, Matilda took advantage of the situation and fell backward.
To outsiders, it appeared that Helene had pushed Matilda to the ground.
“Helene!” Carlisle’s cold and stern voice came from behind.
Helene turned around and saw Carlisle striding back toward them. He helped Matilda up from the ground.
“Matilda is old; why can’t you talk things out instead of resorting to violence?”
Helene instantly understood that Matilda must have seen Carlisle returning and staged the scene to deceive him.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Carlisle’s expression grew more displeased as Helene remained silent.

“I didn’t push her. She fell on her own,” Helene struggled to explain. She hadn’t expected a housekeeper to be so scheming.
“Mr. Bamford, that’s not what happened.” With teary eyes, Matilda acted as if she had been wronged.
“What exactly happened?” Carlisle asked, showing a hint of
annoyance.
“Mr. Bamford, this morning, Miss Lopez wanted to please Franco and said she would take care of all three meals from now on. She even said I no longer needed to cook, but in exchange, she wanted to cut my salary in half. You know my family’s situation. My son is taking the college entrance exams this year…”
Carlisle now understood what was going on. He remembered Helene complaining about the high salary of the housekeeper and wanting to replace her, and now they were having issues so early in the morning.
“Come with me!” Carlisle pulled Helene into the car at the entrance. He didn’t want his grandfather to hear them arguing.
“I know you wanted to replace the housekeeper, but not in this way.””
