First Eclipse

Chapter 13

Fauna watched the doctor's face to try to read what he was seeing. She was amazed that Reagan had been able to take the pain and scrapes away so quickly, although watching her hair change color as she did made her wonder what was happening to her. Reagan's giant mate hovering hadn't been very reassuring either. How did that work? None of her sister's abilities did that to them.

Espy and Em leaned over the man's shoulder and were looking at the machine. Their faces weren't giving anything way either. Then again, they probably had no idea what they were looking at. It wasn't like any of them had spent time at a doctor's office in their lives.

The doctor glanced at them but said nothing. Nodding, he looked over at Capri. "All seems to fine."

There were collective sighs of relief in the room.

Capri came over closer. "All damage is healed?"

He held out a small towel to Fauna, she took it and wiped the sticky gel off her side.

"Yes. Princess Reagan's ability has taken care of it." With quick movements, he packed up his little machine and gave Capri a slight bow before leaving the room.

Fauna looked over at the princess. Reagan was sitting in the big-armed chair on the other side of the Gemini's hangout room, as they called it. Her hair still wasn't the color it had been when she'd arrived, but she didn't look as pale now. Prince Rafael had healed Tim's arm, and Reagan's mate had rejuvenated her. Whatever the royals had in their blood, it was crazy good stuff. Still, Fauna didn't see herself asking for a blood boost anytime in the future. Pulling her shirt down, she sat up. "Any word?" She looked at Reagan.

Reagan smiled and tapped beside her ear. "They're still getting organized, I believe."

"You're talking to them?"

She shook her head. "No, just listening, but if Quint gets himself in a bind, I'll be talking very loudly to all of them."

Espy dropped down and sat beside Fauna. "I can't believe they went back in." She looked at Capri. "It took four fae with strong magic and Ava to stop your evil twin last time, so why would they go back in?"

"It's their job." Trendan and Jeri came into the room. "If they don't-" He motioned around the room. "-if we don't stop them, there will be no realms."

Em groaned. "No pressure, right?" She sat down on the floor in front of Reagan. "I can't believe how excited Karm, Tera, and Sparx were." She grinned. "Okay, I get Karm and Sparx, but Tera? What is she going to do if they run into anyone bad?"

Jeri scoffed. "Insects crawling all over them seems about right." She shuddered.

Reagan sat straighter. "They're going in now. A few of them are dropping down through the hole, and the rest are walking in where you came out." Her brow furrowed. "Once there, some of them are going to follow the tunnel you didn't take." She looked at Fauna.

"We turned around." Fauna shook her head. "There was an illusion that looked like the rock wall hiding the way out."

"Really?" Em moved closer. "It looked like the wall?"

Fauna nodded. "Until I put my hand through it, and then we knew."

"Nope." Em got up. "I'm not doing that."

Fauna gave her a bored look. "You'd be surprised what you're willing to do when you're scared stiff." She turned and looked at the handsome man Jeri, now called mate. "I'd like to know what my DNA is. Please?" She caught a surprised look from Em. "I think we all need to know. If we're supposed to be involved in ending all this crazy stuff-" She motioned to Jeri. "-we could have abilities we're not aware of, so I think we should all find out and then get help from the realm that would know if we do or not."

Capri came over and stood beside the couch. "That makes sense. I've been trying to figure out what part each of you could play in all of this." She turned to Trendan. "If we knew what realm was the most dominant in each, then uncovering, or awakening some hidden power is a possibility."

Jeri nodded. "The water thing would have been good to know about before I was trying not to drown."

Trendan hissed out a breath. "Don't remind me." He turned to Fauna. "I can tell you if you want to know."

Fauna sat straight and nodded. "Yes, I think I need to."

He stepped around Em and stared at Fauna. It made her feel a bit weird, but she needed answers. She doubted that the ones who orchestrated the good team in all of this had a use for someone who could call rodents and wildlife to them. "You are equally Alterealm and FaTerra." He nodded.

"That makes sense." Capri smiled at her. "Animals and the fae are in tune with nature."

Fauna held her breath for a second and then exhaled. "So, I might have some sort of magical ability?"

"It's possible." Jeri smiled.

"What is?" Crystal and Sym walked in. They'd gone to do the weekly shop just after Reagan had healed Fauna.

"That was fast." Em looked from one to the other.

Crystal made a funny face. "Someone forgot the debit card." She pointed to Sym.

Sym sighed. "I thought you had it."

Sym's absent-mindedness wasn't new. "I just found out that I am half Alterealm and half Fae," Fauna smiled at her. Something inside her clicked when he told her. It made her feel more connected to those she'd lived with for so long-to know some of their genetic makeup.

Crystal grinned. "That makes sense. I can see you whipping up some magic in a forest with all the creatures around you."

"Like Snow White." Sym smiled.

Fauna shook her head.

"Flora and Fade back yet?" Crystal looked around.

"No. Fade has been bugging to go for a long ride, so Flora has probably driven out of state by now." Em smiled.

Crystal clapped her hands together and looked at Trendan. "Okay, do me. I feel left out now. Tell me my DNA."

Trendan's smile was brief, and then he sobered and stared at her. Fauna thought it looked like he was looking more above her than at her, and she had to curb the urge to look above her head to see if there was anything there she could see. "Alterealm is very strong. So much so that the human in you is only trace."

"Wait." Fauna twisted back around and then paused and confirmed nothing hurt. "You didn't see human in me?"

He shook his head. "No, it could be, but the Fa Terra always seems to" He glanced at Jeri. "-it's bright, and if any other DNA is present and not as strong as FaTerra, it's very hard to make out."

"Oh." Fauna bit her lip. She wasn't human or barely human. That was not a thing she ever thought she'd think about. Her entire life, she considered herself human, with something extra. Yes, Capri had explained about the other realms when she was a teen, but Fauna still thought she was just a normal human. Now she knew she wasn't either.

"Alterealm," Crystal said softly. "I could maybe do things like Bethany."

"It is very possible," Trendan said and then smiled. "Which would be a good thing in this situation.

Crystal nodded. "Yeah. If I can do more than just crystal magic, that would be cool."

Fauna glanced over to see Reagan was looking at the floor. She moved over closer to her. "Is everyone okay?" She couldn't help but worry about Tim. He'd saved her, them, but had to go back in there.

Reagan looked up and her and nodded. "So far."

Fauna exhaled all at once. "I hope that woman doesn't come back."

Sym went over and sat on the couch. "They went back in that cave?"

Everyone nodded.

"That's just crazy." She looked at Trendan and then around the room. Sighing, she stood up again. "Tell me before I change my mind." She hugged her waist. "I mean, there's a reason I can do what I can, right? So-so, knowing where my blood is from might be a good thing."

"The more knowledge we have, the easier it will be to win this." Capri gave her an understanding look.

"Right." She huffed two quick breaths and nodded to the prince. "Okay. Do it."

Trendan gave her a lopsided smile. "It's not painful."

"I know." She said quickly. "Not physically, but in my head, it might be."

He inclined his head but didn't say anything further; he just looked above her. "Veiltide and Fa Terra are equally visible and then some Alterealm and human are a bit lesser." "Four," Crystal said. "Look at you go." She smiled.

Sym stood there for a moment. "So, Veiltide is water, right?" She glanced to see Capri nod. "Okay. Which is the reason I can do what I do?"

Capri gave her an understanding look. "It could be the mix of all of them, Sym."

"Right. Fa Terra and Alterealm have magic, though, so it could be that too."

"It is possible." Jeri smiled at her and then glanced at Reagan. "Rea?"

Reagan held her hand up, and everyone in the room froze. "Something is happening."

Fauna dropped down to her knees in front of her. "Did that woman come back?" "I'm not sure." Reagan closed her eyes and sat there.

"Everyone stay quiet so she can listen," Capri said.

Fauna looked over to see Jeri was worried, and Trendan had his phone in his hand.

"I'll put it on speaker," Reagan said quickly and tapped the screen. There were several voices, and then they heard the screaming in pain.

"Ava? What the hell has happened to Ava?" Karma yelled through the phone.

Em was beside her now. She reached over and took Fauna's hand and then they both stared at the phone.
