Finding Them

Chapter 31

Just as everyone sat down for a late lunch, someone knocked on the door. Darcy was sitting on Bill's lap while Dakota was on Mitchell's lap right next to his sister. "Daniel be a dear and get the door" Bill told his brother not wanting to let go of his niece much to the disappointment of his nephews. "You sure you don't want to go? It is your house" Daniel replied wanting to hold his daughter because she had avoided him for over 12 hours yesterday. Bill shook his head no and Daniel went to the door.

Daniel opened the door to reveal his father standing on the other side of the door. He had no idea his parents were going to be there and was fuming. Daniel looked around and spotted his mother looking into Daniel's car. "What are you doing here?" Daniel fumed out. "We went to your place and you weren't there, so we came here. This will be sorted once and for all" Charles told his son pushing past him to get inside the house. His mother timidly walked into the house without looking Daniel in the eye.

Daniel stormed into the dining room where everyone else was followed by his parents. "Did you organise this?" Daniel fumed out trying to control his temper so he did not scare the twins. Bill looked up seeing his parents and shook his head no placing Darcy on the ground next to the dogs and standing up. Mitchell did the same thing as his uncle standing in front of the twins to protect them from their grandparents.

Darcy and Dakota were scared. That woman had hurt them and they didn't want to be around her at all. Dakota pulled Darcy towards him, he had to protect his sister from being hurt no matter what. The dogs reacted to the twins' emotions and moved closer to the twins while Charles barged over to the twins. They were his grandchildren and no one was going to stop him from spending time with them, especially his princess.

"Stay the hell away from me kids' father" Daniel spat seeing his father heading towards the twins. Mitchell and Bill shielded them as did the dogs who began to growl at Charles the closer he got to the twins. Daniel was shocked that the dogs were growling. Bill couldn't believe how the dogs were protecting the twins who they had just met, they had never growled at anyone before today. "They are protecting Darcy and Dakota," Bill told his brother who was speechless. These dogs were always placid and never had growled at his father before. Daniel nodded at Bill thankful that the dogs seemed to be protecting his youngest children.

"Call your mutts off Bill" Charles fumed out to his son. "No Dad, they are protecting the kids who are scared" Bill replied. Angie was glaring at Bill, "You aren't old enough to be put into your place Bill" Angie spat out. Bill wasn't her biological child, he was a child his father had with a mistress but she had adopted him to keep her husband happy and hated that child. Daniel was her biological son and she never raised a hand to him. "Yes, Mother show them the person I grew up with" Bill fumed out. "I am not your mother. I never wanted you. Your father couldn't keep it in his pants and had you with his whore" Angie spat out. Everyone was absolutely shocked, no one had known about this until today. "What did you do to my son?" Charles bit out. "What he deserved" Angie bit back before she realised what she had said. Angie stepped back quickly after realising she had let her secret slip.

Charles swung around to his wife. "Angie, answer the fucken question" Charles yelled causing the twins to start to cry, they hated yelling. "Eddie and Hunter take the twins outside please" Daniel spoke calmly. Eddie and Hunter headed towards the twins calmly, the dogs were still standing in front of them but didn't growl at Hunter or Eddie. Hunter crouched down facing a Dakota who was watching Hunter carefully, "Hey mate, let's go outside away from the yelling ok? I can carry you and Darcy outside and keep you safe" Hunter stated speaking softly.

Dakota looked up at Hunter with tears in his eyes studying his brother to make sure he wasn't a threat. He looked over to Eddie who was standing there as well. "Eddie is going to come too, we will keep you both safe. No one will hurt you or Darcy. The dogs can come too" Hunter told his brother. Darcy had her head buried into Dakota's chest but Hunter could see her shoulders shaking and assumed she was crying. Dakota nodded his head once before whispering "Up". Hunter slowly went to his baby brother and scooped up both twins in his arms. Darcy went stiff as a board but Hunter moved quickly. He headed outside with the dogs following close behind him and Eddie.

"Angie answer my goddamn question. What did you do to my son?" Charles screamed at his wife. "I never wanted him. I only took him in for you. So you wouldn't leave. Then I got pregnant with Daniel and we were happy again" Angie stuttered out. "So you beat me as a child because I wasn't your child?" Bill asked not believing what he was hearing. "You beat my son?" Charles fumed out. "Don't play innocent Charles. I heard you on the phone. Just over three years ago you got a call about the twins and you told them to shove them in care that your son had enough children" Angie spat out.

Daniel was furious. "You knew about my kids and didn't tell me? Do you know what they have been through? All because you chose to keep them from me" Daniel screamed at his father. Charles paled and Angie looked smug. Mitchell and Jamie couldn't move, they were shocked to hear that their grandparents knew about the twins and didn't think to tell anyone. "Why so smug mother? You knew too" Daniel screamed causing his mother to step back. She hadn't thought before she spoke and now her son was fuming.

"Daniel" Angie started to be cut off by Daniel. "Neither of you is welcome in my children's lives. You deserve each other. You are both toxic" Daniel spat. "Get out of my house now" Bill yelled to Angie and his father. Charles went to say something but one look at both his children and his two eldest grandchildren and he knew he had lost them all for good. He began to leave before saying "I'm sorry Bill. I didn't protect you. Daniel, I didn't know they would be abused. I am sorry" Charles said.

Daniel shook his head, he couldn't listen to his father. His children suffered, he had seen some of the injuries first-hand and also witnessed every day the emotional damage it had done to the children. Yes, they were getting better, but if his father had just told him about them, his twins would never have been hurt in the first place. "I will never forgive you for what you caused my kids," Daniel told his father. Charles went to speak again but one look at how devastated his sons were and he kept his mouth shut and followed Angie out the door with his head hanging down.
