Chapter Noticed
His P.O.V.
Beep beep beep beep
Samuels hand slammed on the night stand, aimlessly looking to silence the alarm. He let out a soft yawn and stretch before opening his eyes to look at the clock. It read 5 pm.
"And yet I wake up to another day." He sighed to himself.
Samuel wasn't your typical shifter. He didn't necessarily belong to a pack. He lived on his own. Has a decent job, working shift work at the plant and kept close to a small circle of friends. He wasn't considered a rogue or a lone wolf, as he had shifter friends and family in the area. He didn't quite conform to the traditional pack setting. No pack house, no mating ceremonies, just living a more human lifestyle is what he fought for. Samuel stood at 6'2, dark brown hair, clean and manscaped beard with brown eyes and a muscular build.
He made his way down to the kitchen where the smell of fresh coffee was brewing. Yesterday's dishes were still sitting in the sink, and Samuel made no effort in trying to tidy up. He just finished working 3 tens and had the next couple of days off.
Ring~ Ring~
"Hey Paul hows it going buddy?" He said answering the phone.
Paul was a close friend and colleague to Samuel. They grew up together, as their families were real close. Paul wasn't a shifter, and didn't know about Sam's shifting side, and he kept it like that. Paul was the type of friend who was always trying to get him out of the house and into trouble. Sam tried to keep to himself as much as possible, and liked having time alone, but always made sure he took care of his own and family when the need was called for.
"Okay sounds good, I'll see you then." He said as he ended the call.
It was his day off so Paul had called to let him know that he and a few buddies were going to get together tonight at Solandros for drinks.
8pm and the restaurant was packed with busy bodies. As Samuel walked in he was waived over to a table from Paul in the distance.
"Sam! you made it just in time. We just ordered a couple pitchers." Said Paul.
"Perfect! I'm thirsty." replied Samuel.
"So! what's happened since the last time we seen ya? It's been awhile and haven't heard anything new." Paul inquired cheekily.
"You know same old shit. Just work and no play." Said Samuel.
"You know, maybe you could play if you loosened up a bit ya old dog ahah." Laughed Paul.
"Now I didn't come here so you could rag on me about being a loner again. You know me, I like my peace and quiet." Replied Sam.
Samuel was used to hearing the same old words from his friends and family. It only hurt a little coming from his friends as they were constantly on his ass for the same bullshit. He didn't see himself as mate material....but he didn't see himself as a loner either. He knew that when the time was right and once his interest was peaked, that's when he would make a move. No one was perfect for him, and unlike everyone else he didn't mind having time on his side.
The boys threw back a few pitchers and talked the night away. Talking about work, family, the occasional hook up, on Paul's part and the day to day grind.
"Hey Paul! com'on man, let's go for a smoke!" Yelled a friend from the front of the restaurant.
"Ya ya I'm coming." Replied Paul "Lets go Sam, after this drag, we can walk back to your place." Said Paul
"Ok bud." Replied Samuel.
Paul was stomping to the door, while trying to reach for his pack of cigarettes. Sam followed behind where they then joined a group of colleagues that work at the plant. Everyone chimed in about how the night was going, but Samuel kept quiet and his nose to the ground as an unfamiliar scent teased his senses.
"Sam!" Yelled Paul
"Hu? what you say?" Replied Sam confused.
"I was asking what your plans were for tomorrow? A bunch of us are going to Clearwater to pick up some supplies for the bonfire." Asked Paul
Samuel was letting him know what he was doing but at the same time the scent was drawing nearer.
"Where is it?" He thought to himself. "I can smell it. Weird....it's more wolf then anything but I can smell human aswell. It's gotta be another shifter. However this scent is new to town."
As Sam continued talking, he spotted movement in the alleyway through his peripheral. He turned to look, and within a flash of a second a white blurr took off towards the back of the building.
"Hey guys, I'll be back I just gotta take a piss." Samuel excused himself from the group and made his way down the alley.
"Am I seeing a ghost or is this shifter stupid? Why the fuck would you come down here in wolf form? do you want to get killed?" He thought to himself.
Samuel made his way to the tree line picking up it's scent. He took a quick glance back at the alley to make sure know one saw him, and made his way into the forest where he stripped and shifted into his wolf.
"Fuck this wolf is fast. I don't want to scare it, freaking thing is already skittish." Samuel thought to himself. "I better move fast but quietly, maybe I can catch up."
Although Samuel didn't conform to a typical pack, he did like to take long runs in the woods to lose himself, when the town life got too much. He got good at being able to navigate stealthily through the woods when looking for prey and knew these woods like the back of his hand.
He picked up her scent and as he got closer, he could hear the wolf pacing back and forth in the distance. He came to a light crawl as to not spook the ghostly wolf. He was downwind so his scent was mild compared to.......hers.
He watched her intentivley as she paced back and forth.
"What is she doing?" He thought.
He watched her and took her in. She was a beautiful thing to behold. She had a pure white coat which looked like snow and the most piercing yellow eyes. She also looked strong and healthy. Samuel could feel her aura, and knew with certainty she wasn't a threat. He just didn't understand why her scent was off. He moved his paw to reposition himself and the snap of a twig froze her in her place.
"Fuck." He thought.
"Fuck." She thought.
He let out a low growl, essentially because he was calling himself an idiot.
"Well... here's goes nothing I guess." Samuel shifted back to his human form.
"Easy easy! ~put up your hands you idiot- he said to himself~ Just calm down, I'm not here to hurt you."
Rosalie bared her teeth and let out a growl of her own. She took a defensive stance.
"I'm not here to hurt you. Just shift and we can talk ok?" Samuel waited for her to respond ....but nothing.
"Just shift it's ok." He said once more.
She looked to be confused, and then let out a trembling growl before taking off the opposite direction of the town. Samuel stood there and decided to let her go without a chase. He wasn't sure what to make of it. Why wouldn't she shift?
He stood there in the pitch dark trying to figure out what the hell she was doing in town as her wolf form. What pack did she belong too? was she lost? traveling? She knows humans are a real threat right? So many questions ran through his head. He stood there so long in bewilderment, that he totally forgot his bare naked assets were hanging out for all of nature's creatures to see. He looked down at himself.
"Oh shit! my clothes." Samuel started galloping through the woods looking for his set of clothes. "No wonder she took off. You got some naked ass dude trying to talk to you in the woods of all places. So stupid." He said out loud.
He retrieved his clothes and made his way back to the group of guys that were still at the front of the shops.
"Jesus Sam! you take a shit back there too?" Yelled Paul, as his hand planted on Samuels shoulder.
"Something like that." Replied Samuel.
He hid it from the others, but deep down he knew that tonight sparked something new in him. The wolf that stood before him was one he's never seen before, and he's made it his sole mission to find her again.
