Finding Love in the Boss’s Embrace After Divorce

Chapter 15

Chapter 15 Why Did You Marry Me?

Evelyn's eyes narrowed. "I have nothing left to lose. Let's see if I dare."

"Don't you just want a divorce? Okay, I'll grant your wish!" Jerry declared as he retrieved a document from the drawer beneath the coffee table and tossed it in front of Evelyn.

She glanced down and saw that it was a divorce agreement. Astonishment flickered in Evelyn's eyes.

The last glimmer of hope she held onto because of Jerry's refusal to divorce vanished. He had already prepared an exit strategy for himself.

As a law graduate, understanding the terms of this divorce agreement was not difficult for Evelyn. After carefully reading through it, she realized that while divorce was possible, she would be left with nothing. It was not far from what she had anticipated. If the conditions had been favorable to her, Jerry would not have hastily drafted such an agreement in just a few days, ensuring she walked away empty-handed. "What are you waiting for? You want a divorce, right? Sign it," Jerry urged, pushing Evelyn to the breaking point.

She felt like a complete failure. In the end, she couldn't elicit even a shred of sincerity from this man.

document, Evelyn's voice choked as she asked, "Jerry, have you never loved me?"

Jerry smirked and responded without hesitation, "Never."

Evelyn's tears continued to fall, staining the floor. No longer concealing her emotions, she looked into his eyes as she always had. "Then why did you marry me? Was it just because my father could help you back then?"

Jerry hadn't expected her to cry, assuming she had come to seek revenge. Over the past year of their marriage, although Evelyn had been gentle and compliant, she had never been one to shed tears easily. Jerry somehow felt a tightness in his chest. He grabbed a cigarette, "Not entirely. You pursued me relentlessly back then, so it's impossible to say that I had no feelings for you. But after we got together, Evelyn ask yourself, how guarded were you toward me? You concealed your family's background, and I had to learn about it from someone else! What did you take me for?"

Silently listening, Evelyn felt a sharp pain in her heart, as if it had been struck by something heavy.

Jerry took a long drag of the cigarette and exhaled slowly.

Amidst the hazy smoke, his expression was unclear. She could only hear his calm voice.

"At the time, your father held a high-ranking position. Even though my parents had achieved some success in business, can you honestly say that your parents didn't look down on my family back then? When we first visited your home, your father

incessantly!"

Evelyn whispered, "So you must have been delighted to learn about my father's legal punishment, right?"

Jerry smirked. "Yes."

In disbelief, Evelyn covered her mouth with her hand and took two steps back, fearing that she might cry out loud.

If that were the case, why didn't he let her go sooner...

"But why..." Evelyn muttered, "Why Maura..."

If it had been anyone else, perhaps she would have suffered a little less. Facing betrayal from two people closest to her... Just the thought of it plunged Evelyn into profound sorrow.
