Figment of Dreams

Chapter Two

Lux

I had spend three weeks in the hospital. Chris was assigned to me as my doctor, which was a good thing. He was keeping me updated on everything.

I had daily visits from Sebastian and Ash. Skylark, Oak, Bron, and Olive were visiting me often as well. Even Jax had stopped by.

When I came back to campus, I got lots of glances. They had been building in the last weeks after I became an official couple with Sebastian and Ash, but now they were undeniable. Rainers were stopping dead in their tracks to stare and whisper about me. The human girl claiming two Paramores was quite a thing. They hated me for it and I actually couldnt' blame them.

I just hurried along, head down. Books clenched to my chest. My wound hurt once in a while. It reminded me of my near-death experience and to be grateful for the moments I was still getting.

My Telvice pinged and I knew it was Ash. I had let Sebastian pick me up from the hospital and he hadn’t been too happy about that. The both of them were still not really that keen on sharing. But I couldn’t stop seeing one of them. That was impossible and they knew that somehow.

I glanced at my phone and it turned out it was Oak. He asked to meet me at his office so I went there immediately. I entered in silence.

He was sitting at his desk. Blue dress shirt on, his muscles taut against the fabric. His black hair was neatly pulled back with hair gel. His shaved face was as clean as a baby's bum. The same face as the man I loved. The man I had been in bed with for a few weeks now. There was no love lost on this face though.

‘Lux, thank you for coming.’ He gestured to the couch where we had several Paramirage sessions. I sat down. Not really sure what this was about. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the FindNøvᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

‘I wanted to talk to you.’ He added with a frown. He was clearly not sure how to start this.

I nodded at him. ‘Go on…’

‘You and my brother. Do you know-' He hesitated for a second. 'Do you know what he did? To his… position?’

I felt my legs shaking. What was going on? ‘No. I’m not sure what you mean.’

Oak stared at me for a long time. Those grey eyes, identical to Asher’s but so different in the way they saw me. His didn’t hold any lust for me at all, just friendship. Which were all I could see when I looked at my white-haired god.

‘When Raina died, I gave Ash my position as Paramore. He was supposed to lead the region. He has given it back to me yesterday. Because of you.'

Oak was containing his anger but I saw it clearly on his face as he continued his rant. 'Because there is a law. A law that states you cannot marry a human. You need to marry a Rainer to rule this region. Sebastian will not be able to marry you either, Lux. They both cannot. Ash isn’t a Paramore anymore, but he is the fifth. If anything happens to us four, he will take over. So he might have thought he could change his faith by giving his position up, but I have talked to Maddox and that’s just not how this works.’

I put my face in my hands. It was just too much. I had no idea what he had done for me, for us.

‘I’m sorry Lux, but I don’t see why you should continue any of it. There is no future. It might be fun for now. Sure. But is that really what you want for Asher and Sebastian? You can’t have a Paramore, Lux. Not now. Not ever. And they can't find their mate, as I told you once before.’

His words sounded hollow to my ears and I didn’t even notice it when I walked towards my dorm with my thoughts churning, my stomach broiling.

Asher and Sebastian were both there, leaning against my dorm room door. They were not speaking to each other and both had their arms crossed. They saw me at the same time and perked up but not before giving each other death stares.

‘Love!’ Sebastian ran for me and was hugging me first, which got him a very menacing hum from Ash.

‘Sweetheart.’ The latter kissed me softly and stepped back, to glance at Sebastian some more. They both noticed my mood immediately.

‘What’s wrong?’ asked Sebastian.

‘Nothing. I just need to be alone right now.’ I walked straight past them with a small smile. They looked disappointed but I wasn't ready to give them an explanation yet. I needed time to think.
