I ran so hard I could feel my ears ringing from the way my heartbeat was pushing it. I was almost at their headquarters. Enzo and Mourad were at the entry as usual. I ran straight for it but they held me back.
‘Not so fast, little human. What you think you doing here?’ Enzo had always been kind to me, but even he didn’t take kindly to my choice the other day.
‘Enzo, please! You don’t understand. They are coming tonight! I need to speak to Dominic!’
I was hysterical. They would be here any moment. They laughed instead. Murad grabbed me roughly when I was trying to maneuver out of their way. He threw me out like I was garbage and I landed hard on my ass, in a puddle of mud. My ears were ringing louder. ‘Please!’ I cried.
Mourad was pushed to the side of the door. Dominic in his face. A dark-haired girl under his left arm. ‘Don’t-ever-push-her like that.’ He growled.
Enzo raised his eyebrows at him.
‘Dosch!’ I yelled and tried to get up but I slipped again. Making the girl laugh. Dominic dropped her like a sack of potatoes and helped me up. ‘What’s happening?’ he grabbed my face. ‘Why are you in hysterics?’
I just hugged him. So happy to see he was still alive. He was flabbergasted and just let me hold him for a moment. ‘Let’s go to the penthouse, alright.’ He was staring me away from the clubhouse. Still not wanting anyone to see me with him. ‘No…’ I hiccupped. ‘They are coming here to kill everyone.’
He froze. ‘Dornatill?’
I nodded. Tears were still streaming.
‘Enzo!’ he yelled. ‘Tell Marcel we will be having company soon. Prepare the slots.’
He grabbed my shoulders. ’Here, take my keys. Go to the penthouse. Please don’t open the door for anyone but me. You understand, Carina?’ I was shaking from head to toe. I still nodded and, with wobbly legs, stepped back from him. He kissed my forehead and ran back inside before I could tell him that I was sorry.
