Chapter Camping (1)
I was not looking forward to this weekend. Like, at all. Things were still weird between me and Ash after his spectacle at the night of the game. But yet, I had to sign up for this camping weekend. Which I hated on earth, let alone in a foreign world with weird changing forests and creatures I didn’t even know the name of. Since this was one of those trips like the skiing trip, not the entire campus would be joining. But of course the usual gang was all there. Kai’s crew hadn’t signed up for this trip. It was me and Skylar, Olive, Nexxar, Bron and Jax. Sebastian and Dexar. Ash, Oak, Chris and Dean were our camping guides. Miro, Lenn. Briar and Baylor. Yet this one was a three hour drive from Rivellin.
I roomed with Skylark, Lenn, Bron, Olive and Sebastian for the first two nights. We were sleeping in cosy wooden bungalows by the riverside. It so happens that there were six beds per cabin and we couldn’t figure out the configuration between Jax’s group and Sebastian’s crew, I was proudly a newfound member of the Jax group, so now it looked like a couple’s getaway between the six of us. Sebastian had manoeuvred his way into my cabin, not wanting to spend a night away from me apparently. The last night, Sunday night, we would be staying in tents for whatever reason. That’s the day we would hike up north and we wouldn’t make it back on time before nightfall. Therefore a tent… looking forward to it.
Skylark was first through the door. ‘Sweet!’ she turned around and high fived me which I hesitantly returned. ‘This is so much better than the location of last year!’ Olive agreed and jumped up and down in excitement, nearly bumping me over. I glanced around the room. It was a cozy cabin, red wood all over from floor to ceiling. We entered immediately into the kitchen, which was full of metals and more redness, accompanied by a wooden table with six chairs. In front of us the living room had this huge grey couch, a fire place in front of it and a floor to ceiling terrace window view. I could spot the barbecue and the lakeside through the windows already. To our left was a winding wooden staircase, going to the first floor. I walked in and went to check out the terrace but a room behind the grey couch caught my eye. It was the first bedroom. It had a see through window into the living area. Which was quite funny. That bedroom had a double bed, a plaited quilt on top of the white sheets and also floor to ceiling windows with view of the lake. Also a private bathroom. A walk in shower, check, double sink, check. The bathroom was stone and white wood. Very pretty. Also the walk in shower had a white wooden bench it. I was eyeing that one when Sebastian came up behind me. ‘Nobody decides which room we’re taking before we have seen all of them!’ he yelled behind him at the others and kissed the top of my head. ‘But in this one we could put on quiet the show…’ he whispered seductively in my ear which made my toes curl and a shiver run up and down my spine. Olive yelled that she was taking the stairs to the top floor and we sprinted after her.
We came upstairs and were greeted by a wall filled with old records. It was quite the nice touch. The record wall was accompanied by the landing, which looked down at the kitchen. The second bedroom was entirely open, with a window on the other side, which looked at the forest. Also lots of reindeer heads strung up on the walls. On the left side that bedroom had a balcony that overlooked the living area and had the top-side of the view of the lake through those big ass windows below. Sebastian immediately noped that room. ‘She will keep all of you awake with her screams.’ He said sinisterly. I slapped him across the arm and Lenn smirked at that comment.
We went back through the landing, back to the stairs and turned right. first we encountered another all white bathroom on our right side. It had a giant tub and double sink, but no shower.
The last bedroom looked identical to the downstairs one, but it had a glass double door, with a small balcony. It was cute. I looked at Sebastian hopefully, already forgotten his crude comment. But he shook his head. ‘Nope, downstairs for us.’ He winked. I rolled my eyes. ‘That’s perfect, because I want this one.’ Said Skylark and she flopped down on the bed. We all knew Bronn was the easiest going guy I had ever met so he and Olive took the open bedroom without much ado. They also had been together for almost three years, so the two or three times a day phase had long passed… Skylark and me on the other hand…
It was so refreshing to see that Ash, Oak, Dean and the other faculty that were on this trip, they also saw this as their private time getaway. They were chaperoning, but they definitely weren’t our professors this weekend. That first night, after everyone had unpacked, we were all gathered in the biggest bungalow for an epic party. The fireplace was lit, the double terrace doors opened with view on the lake. The BBQ was on and Dean was cooking some mean steaks. A bunch of the gang were sitting outside, chatting and doing beer pong. I was inside, with Jax, Baylor and Skylark. On the couch by the fire, sipping on some cheap beer. I was getting used to this. And to Jax. Even Baylor was growing on me. Ever since Kai and Melixes had been outcasted by most of them, I was having a much better life.
