Figment of Dreams

Chapter 35: Scream for joy

I snapped out of the Paramirage screaming. He had never been this hard on me before. Always pulling back just in time for me to not experience too much discomfort, but not this time. This time Oak went for the full on headfuck.

I snapped my hand out of his like I had it stuck in a beartrap. ‘What the fuck!’ I bit at him. Rubbing my head with my fingers to numb the pain.

He scowled at me. ‘You are slacking Lux. Last week you handled that a lot better.’ He was angry with me. I had no idea why. But he was. He had been acting like this for the entire week.

‘Well excuse me for having had a lot deal with lately.’ I snapped back.

‘We ALL have a lot to deal with!’ he yelled. A perfect lock of hair falling out of place on his frowning forehead. His nostrils flared. He opened his mouth to say something but closed it again.

‘Fuck!’ he smashed his fist down hard on his desk. It’s been a while since I’ve heard him curse. What was wrong with him?

‘Are you okay Oak?’ I went from angry to concerned in a few seconds.

‘It’s none of your business.’ He snapped again. Auch, that hurt.

Just as I was wanting to tell him that I was going to go until he felt better, his door flew open. Ash came in with a coffee in one hand and a goofy smirk on his face.

‘What’s up my favourites, how’s it going?’ he said on a happy go lucky tone and stopped in his tracks when he saw us giving each other dead stares.

’Okay not my favourites today apparently.’ He winked and added. ‘I only like happy chappers.’

That was funny but I wasn’t smiling, neither was Oak.

‘I got coffee though? Maybe the two of you didn’t have enough caffeine this morning?’

Which was total bullcrap because he had seen me at breakfast with Sky, Kai and Olive, drinking a huge cappuccino before our Animal Studies class began. We had even called him over to discuss our drug incident from last weekend. Kai had many questions and since it was a black-out for me, I could barely answer anything.

Animal studies had begun after our breakfast, which by the way was my favourite class out of all of them, not nearly because our professor Sellasun, spend the entire class roasting Sebastian. I loved every second of that.

It was given by Ash’s best friend, Dean Sellasun. He had quickly become my favourite professor with his down to earth attitude and his huge passion for animals. And his hatred for Sebastian.

‘What are you doing here Asher?’ Oak snapped. ‘I’m in the middle of a session.’

‘Just checking up on Lux.’ He added casually. Like the million texts he sends me during the day weren’t enough. Somebody drugging me had definitely scared the living crap out of him.

‘I’m fine Ash, I appreciate it though.’ I was suddenly very tired. Oak had literally sucked all energy out of me during this session. Sebastian wasn’t the only emotional vampire in my life these days.

Oak just kept on staring me down, as if I should be intimated by him or something. Well to be honest, he was. Even though we had a very good conversation the very first night we met, it has not been great since. I have no clue what I’ve done to deserve any of it, since I’m getting along so well with his siblings.

He gave his white-haired brother a long look. ‘Can I have a moment with my brother Lux?’ S~ᴇaʀᴄh the (ꜰind)ɴʘvel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

I rose and left them to their discussion. I needed a rest anyway.
