Chapter 31: The dance
I was swinging away on the dancefloor to earthly music. A few hits from earth had been adopted by Terra, but it was mostly Jennifer Lopez that made it over here. Which was usually not really my thing. But anything earthly was doing it for me anyway these days, so I was totally going crazy on ‘let’s get loud’ at the moment.
The Broom was packing tonight and it had quickly become my favorite joint of the entire campus. Besides our usual Saturday nights in The Dunnager, which had its charm, this outdoor dancing in a midsummer’s dream was totally my thing.
Skylark and I were twirling, dancing with our arms to the sky. Living our best life. I saw Ash and Oak at the sidelines again. Ash was burning a hole in my back from the way he was staring at me. Olive and Bron were swinging away next to us and we did a little line dance together. I never thought I could ever be this happy again.
Nexxar was off course close by, wanting to be close to wherever Skylar was. He was obsessed with her. Next to them Jax and Baylor Emmingbroth, the history Professors little sister, were kissing as if their oxygen came from the other’s mouth. In any other situation the sight of the two of them would send me spiraling down into an angry, depressed state. But I could finally say that my infatuation with Jax and all that history, had finally gone.
Right now I couldn’t help but be very bothered by Kai, somehow the other one who had saved my soul was now in my sore spot. That’s why I was finding some relief in my cocktail glass. Which always helped to dull the pain.
Kai had send me a text that he had some kind of family thing at his estate. Melixes and Sebastian were also not around. Yet, Dexar and Otto had decided to join the party without their leader. So I assumed they must be at their dorms or also at the Welkins estate.
Why I wasn’t invited to the family event was beyond me.
Skylark came back with two more pink cocktails and we cheered, glasses spilling over. Sipping from the Martini glass with short nips and cackling like hyena’s because that looked kind of funny.
‘I think that’s about enough.’ The deep voice of Oak floated to my ears, reaching for his little sisters drink first.
I felt his presence next. Ash was behind me guffawing. ‘Seems like a good party, girls.’
I glared at him and Oak and looked at Skylark next. Who had a mischievous look in her eyes. I knew what she was thinking.
So we tipped our glasses back and downed the entire thing in one big gulp. Leaving Oak to protest loudly as we giggled our way back to the bar. Leaving the two mountains of men rooted to the spot in the middle of the dancefloor. As soon as they realized we were getting more drinks they were elbowing their way through the crowd towards us. Murder in their eyes. Oh both twins with that expression, any sane person would run for the hills. But I wasn’t sane, obviously.
‘Skylark run!’ I giggled and together, one drink in each hand, we quickly made our way through the crowd. Having the advantage of being two slender girls. For the twins to make their way through they had to literally pick people up and put them to the side.
Which they were actually doing. The fucking weirdos.
Both of us were wearing sneakers, I wasn’t falling for that good old high heel trap again. We were also wearing matching frivolous summer dresses. Hers was white with lavender flowers and mine was red with white flowers. Her long white hair contrasting nicely with my auburn waves.
‘Are they close?’ Skylark yell-whispered as if we were on the run from two serial killers. She was a few steps ahead of me, already down one more drink than me. She motioned to me to quickly finish one of the drinks so she could grab my hand and we could run faster.
We were almost at the end of the party. There were few people smooching and slow dancing under the moonlight, but still quite a crowd we could blend into. The twins however, being that tall. Could literally glance over most of them.
We weren’t getting rid of them so easily. I downed my first drink. Made a face because it was not the pink one we had been drinking all night.
’The fuck was that?’ I spat. It tasted like a whole lot of alcohol and it wasn’t very nice. Skylark sighed, clearly already wasted by the blurry look in her cobalt blue eyes.
‘They were out of the pink one’s, so I took the dark pink ones…’ I eyed my second glass. Not sure I was doing that again. Skylark had already drank the other one as well.
That girl could drink.
‘Come on LuLu, drink the thing girl!’
‘Yeah come on Lulu, make some more bad decisions.’ It was Ash mimicking Skylark voice. A lot less amused by us than he was five minutes earlier. Our little cat and mouse game had irritated him and the other one, well he went through life irritated.
Ash crossed his arms over his dark shirt and his muscles flexed. Skylark stuck her tongue out at him. Oak was behind her suddenly yanking the two empty glasses out of her hands.
‘That’s very mature Sky.’ He was clearly not entertained. His black hair was mussy from the run towards us and he looked a little frazzled. That was funny to me, seeing Mr. Perfect so out of place, so I started giggling and Skylark joined me.
We were soon both dying with laughter, holding our bellies. Ash was chuckling along with us and Oak just looked confused and angry.
‘They’ve had enough to drink all right.’ Ash stated the obvious when he saw the look on Oak’s face, trying to hide his own smile.
I still had half a glass of the second drink, having spilled a lot of it on the grass from laughing so hard. I tipped it to my lips but the white-haired dork in front of me pulled the glass from my hand and tipped it back himself.
A smirk lined the corners of his mouth. Until he tasted the aftertaste of that drink. ’What the fuck..’ he spat the last of it out. ’That’s fucking rough. Have you been drinking that?’ he pointed at me and then at his sister. Suddenly not finding any of it even a little bit amusing anymore.
I went to Skylark and put my arm around her shoulders, being a head taller than her. We were both really buzzed and found the two of them extremely entertaining. We giggled some more.
The brothers looked at each other, silently communicating with their eyes. Oak went for Skylark and Ash came for me. I glanced at Sky and we both thought the same thing.
‘RUN!’ she giggled and went for it. She went left and I went right.
I sprinted for dear life, to no direction in particular. Laughing because Ash had to sprint too in his dress pants and dress shoes. I could also picture the look on Oak’s face as he had do to the same.
‘You are going to regret this when I catch you sweet cheeks!’ He growled, but I could tell he found it funny too. Skylark wouldn’t be in such luck with the dark twin.
I passed the dorms, still ahead of him. He was the one that always told me I could run with the best of them. Well clearly that was true. Even on my drunk days.
I occasionally slammed into a wall because I calculated things wrongly. I couldn’t feel any pain so I kept on running.
‘Stop running ,Elmrose!’ he was getting fed up with it, I could tell by the use of my last name. He was close to catching me though. I went out back, towards the lagoon and turned right.
Speeding straight towards the teacher’s hall. He was on me then. He grabbed my waist and I squealed. Squirming in his arms, pretending that he was hurting me. While giggling.
He turned me around and smacked me a little roughly against the brick wall of the building. My chest and his chest rising and falling with the severity of our run.
His hand was on my mouth and I bit him. He quickly pulled it back. Smirking at me. ’Biting huh…is that how we play now sweet cheeks?’
His voice dropped to a sensual whisper as his eyes flicked towards my lips. The mood suddenly loaded with sexual tension. As it usually did when we were together.
His manbun had come undone and he was now an angry looking, turned on Viking in front of me. His hair forming a lion’s mane around his face.
I couldn’t take his intense stare so I bopped him on the nose. And giggled again.
‘You are so drunk…’ he groaned and rolled his eyes back faking being upset but flashed me his signature crooked smile that always did me in. Finding me funny once more.
He was holding me to the wall with his body and he had just realized that. So he took a step back and let me go.
I immediately lost my balance and wobbled forward. The alcohol really kicking in.
‘Shit…’ he murmured. Supporting me again. I literally couldn’t stand anymore. What was going on? I maybe have overdone it a little tonight.
‘My…my legs…’ I could vaguely hear that my voice was slurring way more than a few minutes ago. Strange things were happening.
He was supporting me with one arm, thinking that would be enough, but I literally couldn’t hold myself up so I slid sideways and dropped on the grass like a sad sack of potatoes.
’Sweet cheeks, really?’ he sighed but grabbed my body up from the grass and held me in his arms like a bride.
His Telvice rang. He dropped me on one of the benches and sat down next to me. All I could see were some really bright stars that danced their way across the sky.
‘No fucking way!’ I heard him say. ’She is? Well stay with her… no stay! I will call the Dean and he will… no he will investigate. Do not leave her alone. You hear me? Fuck!’ he slammed his Telvice down and stared at me.
‘Lux.’ he grabbed my hand and I couldn’t even squeeze back. The only thing that was working were my eyes now.
‘I’m taking you to my apartment okay… I need to look after you tonight and we won’t make it across campus. Oak is at your room with Skylar and she is very sick right now.’
I couldn’t really comprehend what he was saying. My eyes were drooping now too, his voice sounded far away.
‘You will experience some things tonight.’ He angrily sighed. ‘We think you two have been drugged.’ His voice laced with worry now. He reached for my body to pick me up, which hung limp like a potato sack and he sprinted towards his room with me in his arms.
