Figment of Dreams

Chapter 26: Dream Ethan

I was in my old bedroom with Ethan sleeping next to me. I was lying on his naked chest and somehow it always started like this in every dream I’ve had of this location. He kissed the top of my head, stirring me awake. It was not yet dawn, but we were in the early hours of the morning. I could tell by the vague morning light streaming in from underneath my curtains. It won’t be long now. But I needed to ask.

‘You told me about your father last time Ethan. Who is he?’

Ethan kissed me again. ‘You know I can’t tell you, he will be here sooner if I do. I need more time with you tonight.’

He was referring to the less frequent dreams I’ve been having. I was now only able to dream of him maybe once a week. It was a blessing and a curse.

‘I know.’ I sighed and kissed him back. ‘I’m not looking forward to it tonight.’ In this one he chased me out of the window. But I wasn’t on the second floor as I would have been in my real bedroom. No, in this nightmare I was on a tenth floor and I would fall down the side of a much larger building. Seeing my death coming from the pavement and feeling my body go splat at the end of it. Somehow the gutting was less intense, less frightening than this falling out of a building nightmare, I could not describe it clearly but it was another level of terror.

‘You are not on earth anymore, Jules?’

‘No. I’m on Terra.’

‘That’s good.’

‘Why is that good, E?’

‘Because now you’re closer-’ the door slammed open and there he was. The Dark Stalker, hood raised. I could only see the glistening knife in his right hand. Everything else was still covered in ominous shadows. He chuckled. Which was also new. He never made noises. I was wondering if I could make him talk again.

‘You are going to chase me out again?’ I sighed, almost bored with the prospect of it. Because I was done being so afraid. I sat up straighter. Ethan trying to protect me again by sitting in front of me, arms raised.

‘It’s time.’ The Dark Stalker said. Again, I knew that voice. But from where?

‘But why?’

He chuckled again and came for me. Ethan tried to block me but he got stabbed in the neck. I scrambled towards the window now. My heartbeat a little elevated but nothing like the old times. I was jumping out the building myself these days, since it beats getting thrown out any day of the week.

‘Why?’ I gasped. Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the Find_Nøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

’Because, Juliette. There is no place in the entire galaxy for both of us to exist.’

This made me forget to jump. This made me freeze up by the window.

And then he pushed me out.
