Chapter Chapter Sixteen
Three days had passed; No word from either Justin or Hartley, no word other than a short text.
‘We are fine, just need a break, sorry –Justin’
Bullet has sent a text everyday trying to gain any information from her brother, but she got nothing. She hadn’t slept in three days, something is wrong, that’s all she could think, something is wrong and she knew it.
“Babe I’m sure they are fine” Shooter whispered into his wife’s ear as he lightly rubbed her back “They’re teenagers, you know what it was like when we were that young, they just need some alone time is all” Bullet looks up to her husband, the broken look couldn’t be hidden.
She buries her head into his chest, “he’s blocked me out, he never does that, something is wrong, please Brett I know something is wrong” she sobs and he sighs knowing she is right.
“Come on, we’ll get Kit and Doc, we’ll all go out and look for them okay” he suggests and she nods tiredly, getting up.
Everyone split up so they could cover more ground.
“Justin!” they called followed by “Hartley!” all four of them called those two names until their voices would no longer work, but they didn’t stop looking, going up to random people and trying to get as much information as they could, but still they found nothing.
The storage box remained empty, they never returned instead staying out and looking all hours of the day, every day, sometimes they would be lucky enough to catch a few minutes of sleep before they would begin their search again.
All of them had lost their real families, all of them refused to lose their family again, but three days turned into three weeks and their hope began to disappear.
Hartley was weak, cuts covered her body, and pain clouded her mind. Reaper had gone out to eat, it made her sick to her stomach as she remembers the stories he had told, shaking her head she tried to focus on her current task at hand, she closes her eyes and focused on Bullet.
Bullet was with Shooter, they were on a train on their way back to the storage box, maybe they had come home, she thought hopefully. In the peaceful silence, Bullet finally closed her eyes and fell asleep.
A loud scream echoes through the room, flashes of knives cutting flesh and a girl crying, the flickering image of Reaper biting into a neck. “Please stop it!” everything begins to shake before it focuses on Hartley, she is curled in a corner, bloodied and beaten she was barely recognisable. Hartley looks directly at Bullet and looks around the room before silently whispering. “Come find me” flashes of the corridor Hartley had walked down, her being in the street with Justin and Candii before it quickly goes back to Hartley.
A large metal door opens with a loud creak, Reaper steps through “What are you-” he growls loudly before storming to Hartley and yanking her hair “You’re going to regret that” he sneers and everything goes black.
Bullet sits up panting “There not at home, stop the car!” she almost screams to Shooter. He pushes his foot onto the brakes and they skid to a stop. “There not at home” Bullet breathes.
“How do you know that?” he asks and she looks at him, tears streaming down her face.
“She showed me, she showed me everything” she cries “Justin is a traitor, or at least that’s how she feels, so much pain, Shooter she’s in so much pain” Shooter leans over and pulls Bullet into his lap stroking her hair.
“Did she show you where she was?” he asks gently but Bullet shakes her head.
“I don’t even think she knows, we need to find her Brett, please we need to find her” he nods kissing her cheek.
“I’ll call Doc”
