Feral For Her Freedom

Chapter TWENTY ONE

Sound exploded in the room, outraged shouts ringing above others as the council tried to refute his claim.

“This is absurd and will not be recognized as–”

Another voice rang out over the other. “Ridiculous, this is not lawful–”

Again, another voice increased in volume blocking out the rest of the other’s words. “I will not stand for this! We cannot let–”

The head council member banged the gavel once, but the force was so powerful that it snapped in half under his aggression. The sound was enough to cut off the protests and roars in the massive open expanse of a room. With only whispers now being flung around the room the head council member glared at Sarakiel. “You would dare mark a feral? She slaughtered a One!”

“My actions are within my rights,” Sarakiel drawled, “I want her released and given to my Twos. They will escort her to where she needs to go.”

“No,” the head councilman growled.

The male beside me narrowed his eyes. “I wasn’t asking. I have adhered to our laws. No rules have been broken except for you trying to take what belongs to me.”

Either I was too shocked at everything that had just happened to snap at the male for claiming me as his belonging, or I was smart enough to keep my mouth shut in this instant and let the male do all the work.

The head councilman’s jaw worked in furious circles, unable to dispute Sarakiel’s claim. “Release the feral!” he shouted out, his face red with anger.

A few of the Zeta agents came forward, each of them bearing a different key for the numerous locks of the bindings on my body. It was an extra precaution to have each of the locks different so that if the one bound were to get a key, only one of their shackles would be freed.

The first Zeta agent stepped up to me but Sarakiel stopped him and held out his hand for the key.

Pursing his lips, the Zeta agent shot a look up at the head councilman before a low growl sounded from Sarakiel. The Zeta agent immediately dropped the key into his outstretched palm and quickly took a few steps backwards.

Sarakiel first approached the metal collar around my neck, eyeing the chain dropping between my naked breasts down to my feet where an iron bar was secured to my ankles, the chain connecting to it. “Do as I say,” he warned me, his hand cupping the back of my neck as he fitted the key into the front of the metal collar. “I will render you unconscious if you make this any more work for me.”

I remained silent as he twisted the key, the sound of the lock opening like music to my ears. The heavy metal fell off from my neck and into his hand. He set it down on the ground, barking at the next Zeta agent to bring the keys for my ankles. Two more keys were brought to him, but he waved his hand and told them to unlock them.

One by one I was released of my bonds, Sarakiel remaining where he was in front of me, watching for the slightest movement on my part that could be considered threatening.

My hands that had been covered with the metal cuffs that completely surrounded my hands and partway up my forearms were the last of my chains to be removed and yet I remained in my kneeling position, simply looking up at the male who then placed a hand on my head like I was a loyal dog.

Still, I did not move.

He was testing me, I knew. He was seeing what would make me snap.

I knew better though, not here and not now.

We stayed like so, me kneeling at his feet, the pressure of his hand forcing my head to be slightly bowed while he stood like a raging storm above me.

The tamer of the feral.

He wanted everyone to see the image, it was a power play on his part, knowing the cameras were still rolling and capturing every image and moment.

I only clenched my jaw, stuck waiting in this position until his Twos finally arrived at his side. They exchanged low words, my ears were roaring with too much blood, the sound of my heart pumping strongly squashing any chance of understanding what they were saying.

Finally, that firm hand on my head moved, sliding off the front of my head and then held before my eyes. I glared at the hand, trying to figure out what it was doing, hanging there in front of my eyes with an open palm.

It was only when I raised my eyes to meet Sarakiel’s that I understood. He looked at his hand expectantly.

He was offering to help me up, a symbol of equality, of respect.

I cocked my head, surprised by his action, half expecting him to move his hand away when I reached to grab it. He didn’t though. His hand remained stationary as my hand inched closer to his.

However, instead of laying my hand on his, I placed it under his. I grabbed his wrist and pulled his hand towards my mouth. Then I slowly licked his palm, letting my tongue drag across the rough skin, feeling each and every callous. I held his eyes as I did so, smirking internally as a flash of surprise fell across his face before he covered it with cold blankness.

He had offered me something I wanted, so I had given him something he wanted in return.

With a wicked smile, the smallest upward twist of my lips that only he could see, I stared into those stormy grayish blue eyes before getting to my feet without his help.

His brows were screwed together, trying to understand what my angle here was. He wanted to know why I had played along with his staging. He wanted to know why I was freely helping him, how I knew what he was doing.

With a flick of his head, his Twos flanked me but did not touch me or make a move to grab me. I tilted my head, again meeting the eyes of the male in front of me. Another test, to see what I would do.

We stared at each other, just for a second but it felt like eons.

This male, I realized, was not like the others.

He was interesting and I think I would enjoy playing his game, trying to unravel him and his motives which I was sure he would soon share.

He jutted his chin towards the massive oak doors that stretched up in an arch towards the towering ceiling. The Twos steered me around, prodding me towards the exit. I kept my eyes on the One who had marked me as his consort, my head twisting over my shoulder as I walked with the Twos but focused on Sarakiel.

He held my gaze, for a few moments before turning away and addressing the council.

My head swiveled back around, and I marched out of the room, grinning nastily at Myrin’sconsortand his Two. The female shrieked in outrage but the Two held her back. I turned my sneer towards the Zeta agents who backed away from the oak doors. The two strong males on either side of me halted at the doors, the one to my left shrugging off his heavy jacket and laying it across my shoulders.

I put my arms through the heavy jacket, zipping it up and turning up the collar. The males opened the doors, allowing me to exit my death.

My bare feet crossed over the threshold, the cold marble beneath my feet biting into my skin in a delicious way.

Freedom.

I breathed in deeply, enjoying it for a split second before the two males flanked me again and the freedom was once again gone.

I lifted my eyes to the sky, promising the open air that freedom would once again be mine.
