Chapter 795 Impressing Susan
Skylar quickly took a car to the hotel. On the way there, Penelope apologized profusely for her mistake.
Her remorse was palpable. Skylar carefully put on a nonchalant air and did not utter a single word of complaint about Penelope.
Till then, she still remembered Penelope's steadfast support during her darkest times.
She even tried to clear Penelope's blame by explaining, "Ordering a plane ticket is useless. I still have my identity card with me. No one can board that plane under my name."
Only then did Penelope's lips curve into a small smile of relief. I don't know what I would do if Skylar said something nasty to me.
While counting her blessings about Skylar's kindness, Penelope chided herself on her incompetence.
Just look at Tobias' assistant. I'm nothing compared to her.
She believed she was only able to snag a job as Skylar's assistant because of their friendship. Penelope was a single mother with barely any academic qualifications, which would have disadvantaged her in the job market.
When they arrived at the hotel, Skylar quickly located her identity card and a phone charger, which had been packed together.
The color of the well-used cable had darkened over time, and Skylar mistakenly believed Tobias had wiped the cable for her.
She packed everything in her purse. Before she left, she suddenly heard the click-clacking of heels across the room's marble floor. Skylar turned around, surprised to see Susan alone without Tobias.
Unlike her, Susan always seemed to exude an alluring aura.
Susan declared, "I need to speak with Skylar."
Penelope did not understand the subtle hint to leave the room, prompting Skylar to send her downstairs to buy a drink from Starbucks.
A moment later, only Skylar and Susan were left in the room.
Susan's gaze was brimming with admiration as she stared at Skylar. Skylar's such a lucky woman. Not because of her business but because Tobias still loves her deeply after they've been together for such a long time.
She believed everyone had an attractive trait that kept their partner engaged, yet Susan could not tell how Skylar had ensnared Tobias' heart, even when others had disapproved of their relationship.
Susan snapped out of her thoughts
and jumped straight to the topic. "Here's the thing, Ms. Jones. Mr. Ford told me that he'd like me to become your assistant. I've always followed his instructions white working for him all these years."
Skylar was bewildered. She did not expect Tobias to actually voice his request to Susan. He really isn't too considerate of other people's feelings.
She smiled and rejected Susan's offer, saying, "Don't worry. Regardless of Tobias' plans, I will not make you work as my assistant. I know very well that I'll only be wasting your talents if you work for me." Susan's opinion of Skylar rose considerably. She's such a sensible young woman, much better than Tobias' ex-fiancée.
Penelope returned to the room a while later with a drink for Susan as well, though the latter had already left.
She handed a latte to Skylar and said, "We should get going, or we'll be late. We have to arrive by today because you have a rehearsal tomorrow morning. Will Tobias be heading back with you?"
Skylar shrugged and uttered, "Of
course not. He has his own business to handle. Everyone on Twitter still thinks Sagrise should be the brand ambassador of Royale
Entertainment City. If I relax now, I'll never make a name for myself in the industry as long as Saorise is around."
Penelope merely thought Skylar was being too silly. If I were Skylar, I would put all my eggs in one basket to become pregnant with Tobias' child. Even if the relationship turns sour still have a comfortable life
because of the kid. She wouldn't
need to work herself to the bone like now.
