Chapter 787 Secondhand Smoke
Skylar and Penelope were already at the hotel entrance when she received the message. Aimlessly dragging their luggage around, Skylar could only call Tobias since the so-called surprise was no longer possible.
Frustrated, Penelope lit a cigarette. Tobias was not picking up Skylar's call, and Penelope watched her call him repeatedly.
She muttered irritably, "Tobias is pretty impressive. He has completely disappeared after going out. What could he possibly be doing in the hotel at this hour?"
Skylar dialed his number as she paced back and forth near the hotel entrance. She answered, "What else can he be doing? He must be asleep. I used to be distrustful of Tobias and overthink everything when he wasn't by my side. Now, I realized I was worrying for no reason."
Penelope shrugged. Skylar used to not have any sense of security, but now she trusts Tobias deeply. Her self-esteem plummeted from her relationship with Jeremy. As for Tobias, he looks drop-dead gorgeous from simply sitting there silently.
Penelope shivered from the cold. It was almost the fifteenth of the month, and the night wind was chilly. She asked, "Shall we switch to another hotel? You've made six or seven calls, and he hasn't answered any of them. You're also a celebrity. What will you do if someone starts tailing you?"
Skylar suddenly realized that someone might have already taken pictures of her after Penelope's reminder. She looked around but did not notice anything odd.
The audition was scheduled for eight o'clock tomorrow morning, and it was almost midnight now. They could not just wait around like this after a lengthy trip. Even though Skylar could stay up late, Penelope needed to sleep.
Penelope lit another cigarette. Skylar recently learned that Penelope smoked. Women who smoked had their stories to tell. Penelope offered her a cigarette, but Skylar turned her down.
"I'm not a fan of smoking. I hate the smell, but you can go ahead. I have smelled enough secondhand smoke from Tobias. He has a serious cigarette addiction and finishes a pack a day." Penelope suddenly remembered Brayden saying that Tobias had a serious cigarette addiction, but he would never accept cigarettes from others because he was worried about them being tampered with. People in their line of work were attentive to every detail and extremely vigilant toward others. It was understandable why Tobias and Skylar decided against living together when they first started dating. Skylar did not want to search for a hotel so late at night. However, her call was answered when she called for the last time.
"Why did you call me so many times? Is there an urgent matter?" Tobias' deep, magnetic voice came through the phone. Skylar was immediately brought back to her senses.
Skylar gripped the phone in her palm, which was stiff from the cold. The southern climate this year was abnormal compared to previous years. There had not been a glimpse of spring up until now. The damp and chilly weather in the southern region was more uncomfortable than the dry and cold weather in the northern region.
"I'm downstairs at the hotel where you're staying."
Tobias was silent for a few seconds, and Skylar could interpret it as him not being very welcoming.
"Come up to room number 6301."
Skylar explained, "I can't check in as I don't have a reservation. The hotel staff won't let me go up. This isn't a seedy hotel where you can come and go as you please. I can't head up." Tobias responded, "Wait for me for five minutes."
