Fate’s Second Chance Chapter 2
Chapter 2

It was only then that Jason recalled the scene just now. In his shock, he suddenly came
to his senses and said, “I’ll investigate right away-”
Isaac pursed his lips, a dark look passing over his face. Playing hard to get, huh? Crude
tactic.
If he investigated her, he might be falling into her trap.
“Never mind.”
If she put in this much effort, she would eventually show up again.
Salome hurried back to her apartment and washed herself inside and out a few times
before lying on the bed.
When she closed her eyes, her mind was filled with the man’s violent conquest. She
wasn’t used to it at first, but later on, the extreme flutters of her heart seemed to
penetrate her bones.
In terms of emotion, she could accept the fact that she had given her first time to Isaac,
but then she heard him mentioning another woman’s name.
Chelsea. Chelsea Willard.

This was the real reason he wanted to divorce her.
She was extremely tired, but the pain in her body kept her awake.
Salome turned around, but she still felt uncomfortable.
She got up and pulled open a drawer. Two marriage certificates lay within.
Back when she first received them, Isaac wasn’t present, but Jacob was powerful
enough that she was allowed to get them without any problems.
This was her first time checking the certificate and looking properly at the man who
was printed on the same page as her.
She glanced at it before tossing it back into the drawer. Let’s visit Winnie.

It was noon when she drove to the hospital, and the servant keeping watch at the ward
had gone out for lunch.
Winnie, who was resting, caught sight of Salome, and her skinny face lit up with joy as
she hastily sat up.
“Sasa, you’re here!”
Her face was still a little pale, but she seemed to be in good spirits. “Was Dad
exaggerating things again? I told him I’m fine and even asked him to keep it a secret

from you.”
Salome sat by the bed and passed Winnie a cup of warm water. “Dad is just worried.
about you.”

Winnie had always been a sickly child, and when she was at her worst, she had to gasp
for air even when she was just walking. She would have to be hospitalized for a few
days from time to time, and Arthur was especially caring toward her.
“But I hate staying in the hospital. Mom always keeps an eye on me, and I can’t eat
anything other than soup.” Winnie pursed her lips pitifully. “These days, I keep hearing
the nurses talk about the pudding they sell in the hospital cafeteria, and I crave that so
much.”
She grabbed Salome’s hand. “Salome, you’re the nicest person in the world. I’m getting
discharged from the hospital today, so I can try a few bites, right?”
Winnie’s eyes widened as she pleaded silently, and she looked like an innocent little pet.
Salome couldn’t say no, so she bought some pudding in the end.
“You can only taste it, but don’t swallow.” Salome nagged again before taking up the
spoon. She was about to feed Winnie the pudding when Leticia’s voice rang out at the
door.

“What are you doing?!”
Leticia was shocked and furious as she strode forward. She snatched the
spoon
and
bowl away, then tossed them into the trash can. “Are you trying to kill your sister while
I’m not around? I knew you were up to no good!”
Salome was pushed to the side, and when she looked at the pudding in the trash can,
she felt a little self–deprecating.
“What else did she feed you? How are you feeling?”

Leticia looked at her daughter, so furious that she was about to call Arthur, but Winnie
hastily held her back. “Mom, you misunderstood. I was the one who convinced Salome
to buy it.”
Leticia froze, but she didn’t feel awkward at all. “Winnie, you don’t know better, but
Salome should be wiser than that. If it weren’t for her, your dad wouldn’t have left us to
fend for ourselves for so long, and you wouldn’t have become so sickly.”
“Mom, stop. Salome’s usually busy with work, but she finally came over to visit today.”
Leticia snorted and looked at the quiet young woman standing at the side.
She wasn’t very fond of this daughter her husband’s ex–wife had given birth to.

Still, this girl was useful to the Felix Family. At that thought, Leticia glanced at Salome’s
neck.
It was completely clean and void of any marks.
For a moment, Leticia wasn’t sure if her plan last night succeeded.
If she hadn’t hoped that the Andersons would help the Felixes more, she wouldn’t have
allowed Salome to get an outstanding man like Isaac. Sadly, her own daughter’s health
was in the way.
Annoyed, Leticia said in an even worse tone, “Isaac is back now, and you’re his wife.
Don’t just think of yourself; you’d better think of ways to get the Andersons to help your
dad.”
Hearing her matter–of–fact way of speaking, Salome smiled. “When you put it like that,
Leticia, you sound like you’re blaming me for not helping in the past at all. Is that simply
your opinion, or does Dad share the same sentiment?”
Leticia was at a loss for words, so Winnie hastily said, “The doctor prescribed some
medicine for me, so can you help me collect them, Salome?”
After Salome left the ward, she heard Leticia’s scolding behind her.
“Your dad never owed her anything, but she just doesn’t like me. Her mother

overworked herself to death, and your dad was still swamped with appointments back
then, so they lived in suffering. I think she blames me for that. Hmph, that woman just
wasn’t lucky enough to enjoy life.”
Salome frowned. She did fall for her trap last night, but she was only forcefully putting
on a front so that Leticia wouldn’t notice it.
After lining up and collecting the medicine, she took a trip to the OBGYN department.
Salome’s injuries were horrible to behold, and there was even some light tearing in the
tissues. After the female doctor finished examining Salome, she had an extremely stern
look on her face.
“Miss, do you want to call the police?”
Salome fell silent.
She was stunned but understood something as she said with an unnatural expression,
“Actually, it was my husband. He had just returned from a business trip, so he couldn’t
control himself…”
Seeing Salome hesitate, the female doctor had an understanding look on her face as
she said, “Here’s some ointment. Remember to apply it when you go home. Don’t share
a room with your husband for the time being and tell him to control himself. You’re still
young, so don’t ruin your body.”

The doctor almost thought something unfortunate had happened to her.
Salome took the ointment awkwardly, feeling her face burn.
She had just left the OBGYN department when she saw Winnie’s older brother, Derek
Felix, walking toward her.
He raised his head, his gaze falling upon the medicine Salome held in her hands.
An odd look flashed across his eyes. “Sasa, you’re here to see Winnie? Are you feeling
unwell too?”
