Fated is overrated

Chapter 96

Zane POV

I don't know whether to be sad, horrified or proud after all she has just told us. I feel an overwhelming sense of sadness in the pit of my stomach that she had to endure all that.

And then to top it off, we, her mates, tried to push her back there. If I didn't feel like the biggest idi*t on the planet already, I sure as hell would now. I'm sure my face is red from embarrassment right now and I feel like throwing up. She wasn't kidding that day she rejected us.

She has been through hell and back and here she is, still able to laugh about it all. I knew this woman was tough already, but if I had any doubt before as to whether or not she would be Queen material - it is gone now.

I can't help but admire her resilience and I am lost staring at her for goddess knows how long. Zeke must have done the same as she clears her throat awkwardly and looks at us intently, urging us to speak.

"Sorry, I just.. I can't believe all you went through in your life already. And how we were such *ssholes to add even more to it" Zeke speaks softly with his eyes glued to the ground in shame. "It's ok, I get it now. I really do" she shrugs. 1

I can't help but wonder what that means - has she forgiven us? And if so, where does that leave us? Will she give us a chance? I am dying to ask, but we have to tread carefully and gain her trust first I suppose. But I wish she would be ours already. I am dying to have her with me.'

Me too' Lance wags his tail in my mind, excited about the small progress with our mate. But, let's not celebrate just yet, we have a long way to go.Visit Job n i b .com to read the complete chapters for free. And not to mention her so called boyfriend. It irks me to no end that she is with him and not us, but we are in no position to demand anything yet. We just need to let the mate bond come to life and work its magic in winning her over.

Zeke and I must have both been lost in thoughts again as she pops up all of a sudden, with a cheeky grin "so, do you want to know my favorite color now?".

I look at Zeke and we can't help but bust out laughing. She sure has a knack for lightening the mood, that's for sure. I roll my eyes playfully at her and say "of course, that was going to be my next question!". "Well, as black isn't officially a color, my favorite would be yellow.

But I prefer the combination of the two" she answers casually. "What about yours?" she grins, probably at our lame attempt to talk casually with her.

"Mine is yellow too, actually" he responds, and I can't decipher if he is speaking the truth, or if he is kissing *ss right now.

We have never talked about casual stuff such as favorite colors before, so I wouldn't know what his truly is. "Mine is green, like the color of your eyes" I wink at her. If he is kissing *ss, so can I. And besides, green really is my favorite color.

What she does next takes us both by surprise, as she throws a piece of her sandwich at me with a sly smirk on her face. It looks like someone is in a playful mood, and I can't help but be over the moon with joy that she finally seems to be a little bit comfortable with us. It's a small step, but we'll get there, hopefully. Whatever it takes. I throw my hand across my chest in fake shock and tease "oh you did not just do that!", but I barely manage to contain the smile that is working its way to my face.

She just shrugs and smiles in return, so I take a chunk off my muffin and toss it at her, two can play that game. She squeals and jumps up, and before I can register it, we are all in the middle of a food fight.

Pieces of muffins, sandwiches, and even fruit fly back and forth before we are out of ammo and have to reload. "Don't waste the scones!" she laughs, whilst grabbing the basket of scones and setting them aside. Apparently our little mate has a bit of a sweet tooth, that will be good to know."

We wouldn't dare" Zeke replies with a smile so bright and genuine, I wonder when was the last time I saw him smile like that. Perhaps even ever?

The food fight continues and she is horribly losing against the 2 of us, although we are deliberately avoiding her clothes as she probably doesn't have a change of clothes on her and we do.

We are taking the hits though, I have some banana slices sticking to my cheek and my suit is entirely covered in all kinds of muffin and sandwich spread.

I see Zeke tossing his last ammo - a sandwich. As it hits her neck, the bread falls off and she now has a slice of ham clinging to her neck for dear life.

Zeke and I burst out laughing as she mumbles "2 against 1 isn't fair!", but then breaks out laughing as well. Lola and I throw our last ammo before calling a truce, and cleaning ourselves up a little.

"Would it be ok if we quickly changed our clothes back at the limo?" Zeke asks Lola. It's funny how the mate bond works, and how she already has us wrapped around her little finger to a point where we ask whether or not she is ok with everything we do. We are already madly in love with her and I really hope she changes her mind about us.
