Fated is overrated

Chapter 111

Zane

POV

Zeke and I are looking at the whole scene unfolding incredulously. We have been heartbroken all week because of the betrayal pains and were looking forward to seeing her again, until she showed up with Nick and shattered our hearts even further. She made a point to let it be known she chose him, right in front of us.

My heart shattered and I got so lost in my grievance that I failed to hand her the books as we were supposed to. We recomposed ourselves slightly, and were about to announce her as our mate in a last ditch attempt to show her we aren't backing out. Even when she told us she would let him mark her, and this could sign our death sentence if we hadn't accepted the rejection. But that is when it all went to sh*t.

I can't say that I like the guy that was with our mate, but I wouldn't wish any harm on him either. Although I hate the fact he was with her - he was good to her. And she cared for him.

She hasn't had many people in her life so far who she has cared for, and now the one she cares for tremendously is being ripped away from her. I wish I could go to her and hold her so badly, but that would only make things worse right now.

Drake and Damon are hugging her tightly- but it doesn't seem to register in her mind, as she is staring at his lifeless body for minutes already. Zeke and I are both at a loss for words, and mom and dad are watching the scene in pure horror as well. It was so unnecessary too.

Everyone knows being rejected by a royal beta as a lower ranked wolf is a death sentence. She could have let him reject her as he asked, and he would have been fine. She would have been in a bit of discomfort, but barely anything at all, and she would definitely have lived. A

s if things weren't bad enough, we hear Ilona laughing with her friends and saying "what a moron! Thinking I would let him reject me. Pathetic little weakling deserved to die". I flinch at the brutality of her words, how can anyone be this vicious? I am hoping Lola hasn't overhead, because I have seen a glimpse what she is capable of when angry, let alone having just brutally lost someone she loves.

Goddess knows she could lose control and hurt innocent people. My hopes are disintegrated when I see Lola freeze, and I know all hell is about to break loose."

Mom, dad, we need to do something. This isn't going to go well" I whisper with my eyes glued to Lola. I hear Zeke gulping beside me, and I know he is thinking the same thing I was.

Her posture turns rigid and Drake and Damon have noticed the change in her posture as well, as they pull away ever so slightly to stare at her face. Her expression is stoic, but her eyes are bloodshot red. Drake and Damon pull away from her quickly, when a black aura starts to emanate from her body. I hear them calling out to her to please calm down, but she doesn't seem to hear anything they say, like she is in some sort of trance. As she slowly starts to stand up, the black aura gets infused with red flames, stretching wide all around her. The sight is unlike anything I have ever seen or heard about, it looks f*cking terrifying. I wonder if this is normal for dragons, but when I see Drake and Damon staggering back with shock written all over their faces, I can tell it is not. Looking around the arena I can tell everyone is terrified, even mom and dad have taken several steps back.

All of a sudden, the wind picks up violently and dark clouds cover the sky in an instant, as if it were about to rain. But instead of rain, big lightning bolts shoot down from the sky crashing into the ground, followed by the roaring sound of thunder.

If I hadn't seen this with my own eyes, I would have never believed anyone could do this. But it is all too sudden and all too violent to be coincidental. I notice a lot of people are scurrying into the palace, and those that do not seem to be rooted to the spot in shock.

I look over to a petrified Ilona, she has staggered back and has her eyes glued to Lola, who is now staring Ilona dead in the eye.

The color has drained from her face and she looks white as a sheet. She takes another few steps back and turns around to start running, when a lightning bolt strikes the floor right in front of her, halting her in her steps. She turns around and drops to her knees, whilst Lola is stalking towards her slowly, predatorially. The fire is still blazing, seemingly getting larger with each step she takes.

"I-I-I.. I'm s-s-so s-s-sorry L-L-Lola!" she stammers, her hands up in a pleading manner. Lola seems completely unfazed, and I am unsure Ilona's words have even registered at all in her robotic trance-like state. None of us dare to intervene. Not that I am sure I would

even want to.

Ilona's actions were beyond vicious and lead to an innocent person's demise. As far as I'm concerned, she is getting tit for tat. Mom and dad are watching with their mouths agape, seemingly also not too interested in intervening. I catch a movement from my right hand side, and I see Ilona's father running towards his daughter.

Before he can reach her, he is slammed hundreds of yards away against the palace walls by an invisible force. I would almost wonder if it was Lola's doing, as she doesn't even flinch or move her gaze from Ilona at all.

Ilona screams in agony and as she tries to get up and run towards her father, she is suddenly surrounded by a sea of flames, caging her in. Lightning bolts are still lighting up the sky violently and the wind is still whooshing around us. Lola drops her arms at her side with her palms slightly ajar.

Blue flames and electricity are twitching in her palms, as if they are begging to be let out. The sight of it is surreal and shivers are running down my spine. This girl has so much raw power, it is as impressive as it is disconcerting. I now see that she actually went easy on us 2 years ago.
