“But surrogacy? Can you really raise a child alone? You can’t even handle your emotions, and your grandmother is too old to help,” the man said, his voice laced with helplessness. “When I suggested you have a family, I meant you should get a girlfriend and maybe get married later.”

Evan’s face twisted in pain, but he tried to maintain a strong exterior. “You know I can’t handle the negativity of a girl in my life. My past experiences have been terrible. My worst breakup was in college with Ella. I loved her, and she betrayed me for my best friend! It’s been five years, and I still can’t get over it.” Evan let out a deep sigh and gazed out the window, trying not to appear vulnerable.

“Forgive her, Evan. You both were young and vulnerable. The man’s expression was stern, knowing that Evan struggled to let go of emotions, even after years.

“I loved her, I wanted to marry her. My parents loved her, despite her troubled family background. They accepted her as their own!” He shook his head in disapproval.

“I know, but you’re holding onto an emotion that’s harming your health. What will you do if you come across Ella again? You haven’t seen her in five years.”

The doctor scribbled notes on his iPad, his eyes concerned.

“I would curse her… and… and…” Evan’s fists clenched, and the doctor held up a hand, signaling him to stop talking. The tension in the room was palpable, as Evan’s uncle and doctor tried to help him confront his lingering pain and anger.

“Alright, let’s not discuss Ella anymore, and I hope you never cross paths with her again. Tell me more about the surrogacy process and how you plan to raise the baby until breastfeeding time?” The man quickly changed the subject, noticing Evan’s anger triggers.

“Well, the surrogate mother will care for the baby for a year, and by then, I’ll be accustomed to having a baby. It’s all part of the contract. A slight smile appeared on Evan’s face, and his excitement was palpable. The 57–year–old man thought for a few seconds and nodded his head. He saw a sparkle in Evan’s eyes that he hadn’t seen since his parents passed away two years ago. “Very well, Evan. You should go ahead with it I’m sure you’ll be a wonderful father.” He started scribbling notes on his iPad, while Evan looked at the doctor with a hint of relief.

The tension in the room eased, replaced by a sense of hope and new beginnings. Evan’s uncle and doctor were willing to support him on this new journey, and Evan felt a sense of gratitude towards them.

Just then, his phone rang, and he smiled, recognizing the number. “It’s a nurse from the surrogacy clinic. I hired her to keep me informed about everything. She must be calling with good news.”

“Well, then pick up the call,” the doctor said, equally excited.

“Hello, yes Maria. What’s the news?” Evan was hopeful, knowing he had invested in one of the country’s best surrogacy hospitals.

“Sir, I have some very strange news, Maria whispered, having been paid by Evan to keep him informed about the clinic’s activities.

“Strange news? I don’t understand,” Evan said, confusion and concern creeping into his voice. The man nodded disapprovingly, sensing something was amiss.

“Sir, there has been a blunder committed by the doctor and her team. They fertilised the the body of the wrong girl. Now they are planning to have a secret abortion and they will lie to you that the insemination could not happen.” She whispered.

“What?! They are going to about my child? Send me the whereabouts of that girl who has been inseminated. How can she abort the child like this?” Evan instantly stood up on his feet in much rage. Looking at him, the doctor also stood up on his feet and was taken by extreme surprise.

“Yes Sir, I am sending you the detailed information about her. They have already called her for the abortion, and the girl must be here any minute. You will have to hurry up.” Maria spoke in a slightly fearful tone, knowing she was going against her boss.

“I am on my way to meet that girl.” He spoke in much rage, running out of his office. Meanwhile, Ella was already on her way to the hospital, tears rolling down her eyes. For several seconds, she had been standing in the long queue waiting for her audition, and now suddenly her life had turned upside down. She was having a baby, and she didn’t even know whose baby it was. The worst part was that she was simply, blindly following the doctor and was now on her way to the hospital to abort the child.

With tears streaming down her face, Ella made a decision. “No, I won’t do it. I won’t abort my baby. I’ll keep my baby, no matter what.” She took a deep breath, determination in her eyes, and began to sob uncontrollably, the weight of her decision settling in.
