Chapter 19

Ella’s eyes wandered through the cabin, taking in every detail, every memory, every moment that Evan had so carefully preserved. She felt like she was walking through their history, reliving the moments that had once been ordinary, but were now extraordinary in her eyes.

She stepped further inside, her gaze falling on a beautiful, faded photo of their first kiss, painted on the wall with tender care. Next to it, a concert ticket from their first date, the artist’s name still bold and vibrant. Her heart skipped a beat as she remembered the night they had met, the spark that had ignited their friendship.

Her eyes moved on, landing on a handwritten poem, once a birthday gift from Evan, now beautifully embedded and framed on the wall. The words, once written with love and care, still resonated deep within her soul.

Every step revealed a new treasure, a new memory, a new moment that had been preserved with love.

Ella’s heart swelled with emotion, her eyes filling with tears as she realized the depth of Evan’s love and devotion. He had kept their memories alive, cherishing every moment they had shared, and preserving them with tender care.

The walls of the cabin, once plain, were now adorned with badges of their love, each memento a reminder of the laughter, adventures, and quiet moments they had shared. Framed air tickets and photo frames from various picnics and birthday parties lined the walls, telling the story of their life together. Ella’s gaze fell on the guitar, once a mere instrument, now a symbol of their love. Its strings were still intact, and she could almost hear the musical poems Evan used to sing for her.

“You never touched this guitar after our breakup?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Evan’s cheeks flushed, and he held her hand. “I lost my nerve, he mumbled, his eyes cast downward. “Let’s go outside, you’ve seen enough.”

But Ella’s attention was caught by the quilt. “Wait, is that the quilt your grandmother made for you?” she exclaimed, her eyes wide with wonder.

They had wrapped themselves in this quilt on a romantic night in Hawaii, sipping wine and overlooking the ocean. Ella’s gaze then fell on the music box, its delicate melody still resonating in her mind, a gift from Evan’s heart to hers.

The cabin walls now vibrated with colors of their love, and she couldn’t help but admire the mural ot cherry blossoms, a mark of their eternal love for each other. Quotes and lyrics, once mere words, had become soundtracks of their relationship, framed on the walls.

Time stood still as Ella realized that Evan had preserved every moment they had shared, cherishing their memories with tender care. Her heart overflowed with emotion, knowing that their love had been kept alive in this sanctuary.

Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes, but

Controlled her overwhelming emotions and turned to face Evan. “Why did you keep all this?” she asked, her voice trembling. “Why preserve our memories so carefully, especially after our bad breakup?

Evan’s eyes locked onto hers, filled with deep longing. “Because these moments were the best of my life.” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “Our time together was the only time I’ve ever felt truly alive. I didn’t want to lose any of these memories, even though I thought I’d never see you again. I never wanted

forget a single detail of our time together, not even our fights. They were precious to me.”

Ella’s heart raced as she searched his eyes, seeing the sincerity and love shining bright. She felt the walls she had built around her heart begin to crumble, the pain and hurt slowly fading away. She frowned, her confusion evident.

“Why now, Evan?” she asked, her voice barely audible. Why show me all of this now?

Evan lowered his gaze, his hands sinking into his pockets. Because I wanted to tell you that I’m not the

Tbelieve you,” she said, her hand reaching out to rest on his chest. “I don’t know about us, but I know we can co–parent this child, and he’ll be lucky to have you as his father.”

She leaned in, hugging him gently. Evan hesitated for a few seconds, feeling the familiar warmth he had always craved from her. Then, he couldn’t resist anymore, and he hugged her back, a small smile on his face as he rested his chin on her shoulder.

“Thank you for believing in me,” Evan said, his voice filled with gratitude. “I know I wronged you by bringing you here, but I promise to give you every comfort you desire. You’re the mother of my child, and I’ll give you the respect and regard you deserve.”

“Thank you so much, Ella replied, a small smile on her face. She leaned in closer, her cheek resting on his shoulder as they hugged each other tightly inside the cabin where they had once shared countless moments together. The warmth of their embrace was a testament to the love they still shared, and the hope of a new beginning.

As they held each other, the cabin seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them, lost in the memories of their past. The fire crackled, the wind whispered through the trees, and the stars bright outside, but all that mattered was the love they shared.

Evan’s hand traced gentle circles on Ella’s back, his touch sending shivers down her spine. She felt his warmth, his comfort, and his love, and she knew she was home.

“I’m sorry.” Evan whispered, his voice trembling. I’m so sorry for everything.”

Ella’s grip on him tightened. “I’m sorry too,” she said, her voice barely audible. “But we’re here now. We have a second chance. Let’s be friends?”

“Yep. Friends.” He nodded.

As they stood there, wrapped in each other’s arms, the world outside melted away, leaving only the promise of a new beginning. They knew it wouldn’t be easy, but they were willing to try, for themselves, for their child, and for the love that had never truly faded.
