Falling For The Contract Bride Chapter 72
Chapter 72 A Stormy and Steamy Night
The very moment she heard the conversation, Mu Zhi’s heart suddenly skipped a beat.
It was out of her control, for unknown reasons.
Mu Zhi turned away intentionally, pretending to be asleep. But Lu Jinye’s voice continued to be heard.
She seemed to be putting more focus on the words exchanged.
She heard Xiao Qingqing say, “Jinye, thank you for your tolerance and love, you gave me love and rescued me. You are the
moon of my life, my sun, and stars.”
“Mmm,” Lu Jinye responded with a light utterance.
Not long after, he added, “Don’t live in the past.”
On the other end, Xiao Qingqing laughed lightly, “To bring me out of my past, you’re going to have to work hard to create new
memories for me.”
Mu Zhi clutched her abdomen area. Why did she start feeling stomach-ache as she listened to their conversation?!
“That’s all in the past, nobody can hurt the Xiao Qingqing now.”
Lu Jinye said listlessly.
Mu Zhi could not help but threw a glance in Lu Jinye’s direction.
Did she hear it correctly? Lu Jinye was consoling someone!
True enough, the true love of his life gets a different treatment.
Mu Zhi thought to herself. Either as his wife or his secretary, she had never seen Lu Jinye give words of consolation to any
woman!
What a gentle and encouraging tone he had! Mu Zhi was starting to be astonished!
However... Apart from astonishment, she sensed a dash of upset.
Xiao Qingqing continued with her lovers’ prattle, “Jinye, I’m not that invincible now, there’s one person in the world who could still
hurt me. That is you.”
“Because I’m madly in love with you, I’m only vulnerable to you.”
Xiao Qingqing was confessing her love.
However, in an untimely manner, Mu Zhi’s phone started going well.
Mu Zhi had recently taken a liking to a singer called Wang Ruolin. She chose one of her works as her ringtone.
It was especially inappropriate in a setting like this!
While Xiao Qingqing was confessing to her ex-husband...
She was lying on his bed. The lyrics of the songs went, ‘I refuse to sleep, the day too bright but the night is too dark. Every time I
take deep breaths, my heart is warmed by your sweet love... There are no words that can describe my happiness, yet it isn’t
enough...’
Mu Zhi’s ringtone might be a clear sign of provocation to people who did not know better.
Using her ringtone’s lyrics as a mean of provoking!
Mu Zhi glanced at the screen and found out that the call came from Jian Xiaoning.
She obviously must not answer it. Lu Jinye was still in a call with Xiao Qingqing. She would get exposed if she had answered it.
Thus, she hurriedly declined the call.
Normally, Jian Xiaoning would relent if her first call attempt was hung up.
But this time, she went to make several calls.
Mu Zhi had just declined it when her phone rang again. The sound of provocative lyrics filled the room.
Without any other option, she clasped her phone in her hand and dashed into the bathroom to answer it.
Lu Jinye did not seem bothered at all. He held his phone by his ear silently.
However, at the other end, Xiao Qingqing was trying to remember how to breathe, totally stunned as the lyrics bounced around
inside her skull! She could not wait to smash everything in her sight.
She was certain that the ringtone did not belong to Lu Jinye.
It must be a woman!
Who was that woman!
“Jinye, am I disturbing you? Is there another woman over there?”
Xiao Qingqing asked tentatively.
“It’s Mu Zhi.”
Lu Jinye did not attempt to explain. He was frank and open.
Meanwhile, Xiao Qingqing could no longer stay put.
But she was in no place to lash out. She had to watch her image. So, in a pretentiously forgiving manner, she said, “Jinye, I trust
you have a business to take care of with Miss Mu, I shall not disturb you. Even though I’m afraid, I’ll try my best to get used to
not having you around.”
Her words sounded like she was about to say goodbye, though she was desperate for Lu Jinye’s words to make her stay.
To her disappointment, Lu Jinye had no intention to do that. He muttered, “Kay, sleep well.”
And hung up the call.
Xiao Qingqing was thunderstruck the instant she was hung up on.
She grasped the phone in between her fingers, hoping to squash it into bits, and ended up launching it against the wall.
She paced her room in exasperation.
By mentioning ‘business to take care of’, she was merely giving herself an out, as well as sparing Lu Jinye an excuse.
What else could happen when a man was left alone in a woman in the middle of the night, accompanied by the stormy and
steamy night!
Nobody could guarantee that nothing would happen!
Especially when they had their needs!
Why... Why was that happening?!
Mu Zhi and Lu Junnian’s love story was practically flawless. Did Lu Jinye not fall for it for one bit?!
What was she going to do?
How could she survive without Lu Jinye?!
Xiao Qingqing was more discontented the more she allowed herself to immense in her thoughts!
No way!
She went before her computer, logged in, and checked her post, only to learn that it had been deleted. So, she decided to add
another breaking one.
...
Mu Zhi hid in the bathroom, explaining to Jian Xiaoning with a frown, “What reignited love? There was no love to start with,
understand?”
“A hailstorm occurred as soon as I left the villa, and my clothes are drenched, I can’t leave now and Lu Jinye doesn’t seem like
he’s going to offer a lift.”
Jian Xiaoning replied, “Sure, sure, there’s no need to explain yourself. Right. You can’t leave because of the hailstorm, you can’t
leave because of your drenched shirt, and you can’t leave because... Lu Jinye won’t drop you.”
She sounded like she was sympathizing with Mu Zhi. But her tone told Mu Zhi that there were overtones of mockery.
Hearing her words, Mu Zhi flushed furiously.
After all her explanation, Jian Xiaoning chose to mock her.
Whatever!
Mu Zhi frowned and muttered, “Fine, whatever you say, I need to go to bed, please take care of Xiaomu for me, thank you.”
“Muah!”
In the end, Mu Zhi helplessly gave Jian Xiaoning a virtual kiss to express her gratitude for taking care of her daughter.
But Jian Xiaoning would not relent, “I don’t need your kiss, why don’t you leave that for someone else who needs it?”
Jian Xiaoning hurriedly hung up the call after the witty remark.
Meanwhile, Mu Zhi turned around with the phone in her hand and returned to the bedroom. She thought Lu Jinye was still in the
middle of his affectionate call. But to her surprise, as soon as she cracked the door open, she was greeted with Lu Jinye, leaning
on the wall, staring at her.
His stare startled her.
“Are you done comforting Miss Xiao’s emotions?”
Mu Zhi felt abashed by how he was eyeing her. She thought she had to say something to alleviate the awkwardness in the air.
Hence her remark.
However, it quickly dawned on her there might be subtle hints of jealousy in her words, to which she was not aware of before
blurting out.
