Chapter Epilogue
Dakota
“You’re leaving? Without saying goodbye?” I asked, half whispering and half accusing as I glared at Eric, the vampire brother of Amara. How dare he leave in the middle of the night just like that? He was the strangest vampire I had ever come across, and after all this time, he hadn’t said more than a single word or two to me. How frustrating was that?
He walked towards me, stopping at arm’s length. “Is there something you wish to say to me, Dakota?” he whispered, and I just stood there shell-shocked and mouth agape. We stood there immobilized, none of us saying anything for what felt like hours, and when I couldn’t say what I had been wanting to tell him, he started to turn around so that he could leave. “Hey!” I called out in panic, but yet again failed to say something coherent.
What was I supposed to say? How was I going to tell him what I knew? There was no way this was going to end well, I thought to myself. The world was playing the cruelest trick on us, and there was nothing I could do about it but hope that sometime soon... He and I... He locked eyes with me once more before giving me the most devastating, heart-stopping, jaw-dropping, enchanting, but somewhat crestfallen, smile.
“Don’t worry, little one; I’ll come back for you soon.”
