Falling For Her Billionaire Baby Daddy

Chapter 9

Rachel was miserable, she felt as if her life was crumbling and there was nothing she could do to stop the devastation. How could she have been so careless? What was she going to do now? How was she going to break this news to her family, especially her mother? How would her friends react?

Her body shook violently as she sobbed on her bed. She wasn't surprised that Derek had refused to entertain the possibility that he was the father of her child, but his insults had crushed her. Why was he so cruel to her? Hadn't that night they spent making love meant nothing to him?

Of course, she didn't expect him to fall in love with her after that, but couldn't he just try and be nice to her?

She grabbed a piece of tissue and blew her nose loudly, then she tossed it at the trash can but missed by a hair's breadth. The missed shot sent her into another fit of crying.

Rachel squeezed her eyes shut, wishing she could press the rewind button and go back to that night at The Black Hat. She wanted a do-over and she wanted it now.

How was she going to survive this new phase of her life? How was she going to raise a baby all by herself?

How would she explain this to her subscribers when her belly began to grow? What was the rest of her life going to be like now?

Someone knocked loudly on her front door followed by, "Open the door, Rachel. I know you're in there!"

She groaned. "Go away, Rob!"

"Don't make me break this door down," Rob threatened. "Open up!"

"Leave me alone!"

"I mean it, Rachel. This door is coming down any minute now if you don't open it," he threatened.

"You've been in there for more than a week, nobody's seen you and we're all worried. You haven't hosted your dance classes this week and you didn't offer any explanation to your students.

"Have you seen the comments on your YouTube channel? Your subscribers want to know why you stopped uploading content and I want to know why you're hiding in there."

Rachel said nothing but continued to sob quietly. She didn't have the energy to offer her brother the explanation he was seeking.

"Rachel?"

She sighed in defeat and finally dragged herself out of bed.

"I'm coming," she called out.

As she made her way to the door, she tripped on an empty tub of ice cream that she'd left on the floor last night.

"Ouch," she yelped when she stubbed her big toe on an upturned stool in front of the door. She kicked it aside and unlocked the door.

When Rob saw her, he gasped in shock. "Oh my gosh, Rachel. What happened to you?"

Her hair was disheveled, her hair was a mess, her face was streaked with tears and her eyes were bloodshot from crying non-stop. Her oversized T-shirt was rumpled and stained with drops of chocolate ice cream and her legs were unshaven. Her apartment looked like a war zone; magazines everywhere, furniture askew, dirty plates and cutlery everywhere, floors littered with snack wrappers, and the whole place stank. "Geez, Rachel. What's this? Are you doing drugs?"

She ignored his question and continued her slow walk back to her bedroom where she landed heavily on the bed, exhausted from the short walk.

Rob was not surprised to see that her bedroom was even in worse shape than her living room. "Are you going to tell me what is going on, or do I have to squeeze it out of you?"

"I messed up, Rob," she said softly and her chin began to wobble. She couldn't believe that she still had any tears left in her eyes, but her tear duct did its job and two fat tears rolled down her cheeks. "I messed up, big time." Rob pulled up a nearby stool and sat on it, then he held her hands in his and gave them a gentle squeeze.

"Come on, my love. You know me well enough to know that I don't have a single judgemental bone in my body," he said soothingly.

"You know you can tell me whatever it is that you've done and I won't judge you. Come on, Raych. You know you can trust me with your secret."

"Well, it's not going to be a secret anymore by next month," she said. "I'm pregnant, Rob. I'm carrying a baby in my belly right now."

Rob was stunned into silence.

"Yeah, I know," she sighed. "I can't believe it myself."

"I don't understand. I mean, how...?"

"For god's sake, Rob. How else? I had sex with a guy and I got pregnant. I'm pretty sure even gay people know how that works," she snapped and was immediately sorry.

"I'm so sorry, Rob. I didn't mean to lash out at you like that. Please, forgive me."

"It's ok," he said quietly. "I'm not offended. I know you're not feeling like your usual self right now and that's understandable under the circumstances."

She wiped the tears away from her face with the back of her hand. "I'm so angry with myself for letting this happen."

"So... are we going to address the elephant in the room?"

"What?"

"The father. Who is the father of your baby?"

She shrugged. "Doesn't matter who it is. This is all my fault, I was the one who was stupid enough to have sex with a stranger without protection." "Wait, you don't know who it is?"

"I know who it is, but that's not important," she said non-committally.

"What do you mean that's not important? Have you told him?"

"Yeah."

"And?"

"He rejected it. Said he's not responsible."

"And?"

"Nothing."

"What do you mean, nothing?"

"Stop bugging me, Rob. This is my cross to bear now, I'll figure things out eventually."

"Rachel, this is serious."

"And you think I don't know that already?"

"What are you going to tell Mom?"

"She doesn't have to know. I'm not going to subject myself to any kind of verbal bashing from her and her church friends."

"This is crazy," said Rob, feeling dazed.

"Yeah..."

They were both silent for a while, each occupied with their own thoughts. Rob couldn't believe how nonchalant Rachel was sounding about this pregnancy issue. He could tell that there was more to the story than she was willing to share. Lost in the world of this story? Make sure you're on Ñe5s.org to catch every twist and turn. Rob didn't want to force her to open up to him until she was ready. However, he was determined to help her as much as he could because right now, he knew that she needed all of the support she could get.

"Thanks for stopping by, Rob. I'll be fine, I promise," she said as a way to dismiss him.

She needed to be alone to wallow in her sorrow and marinate in self-pity, and Rob was getting in the way of that.

"Of course, you will be fine. And no, I'm not leaving until the apartment and its owner regain some decency. This place looks like a shit hole."

"Thanks, but I don't have the strength to clean just yet. I'll probably get someone to clean it up when I'm ready."

"I am that someone," said Rob, as he stood up and began to pick up the trash from the floor.

"Stop it, Rob. You don't have to do that," Rachel protested.

"You stop, Rachel. Stop rejecting my help. I am your brother and I love you. It breaks my heart to see you this way and I will not step out of this apartment until I am 100% convinced that you are ok and that your house looks like a place fit for a pregnant woman to live. Ok?"

Rachel was so overcome by emotion, that she could not speak. She got up from her bed and wrapped her arms around her brother, hugging him tightly.

"Thank you," she whispered.

"You're welcome, my love," he said softly, embracing her too. "Now, you need to find your way into the bathroom and clean yourself up. You smell like horse shit."

She stepped back and punched him playfully in the chest. She was thankful for her brother's presence in her space at this chaotic time in her life.

She had thought that she needed some time alone to thoroughly feel sorry for herself, but she realized now that that was a coward's way, and she wasn't a coward. Her child needed a brave, strong mother, and she was determined to be exactly that.

"Damn it, man, I can't believe I'm about to become an uncle," said Rob with a dreamy smile.

"And I'm sure you'll be the most fabulous uncle the world has ever seen," said Rachel.

"Do you think so?"

"I know so, Rob. You'll be great."

"And you will be a great Mom. That child is lucky to have you as their mother."

Rachel blinked back fresh tears. "Thanks for saying that, Rob. I'm lucky to have you as my brother."
