Chapter 64
The image that Sam created in Rachel's head made her sick to her stomach. She quickly erased it from her mind and focused on finding out what he was after. "What do you want?" she asked him.
"For starters? You," he answered with a sneer. "And then I want some money Enough money to keep me happy for a long, long time."
"How much?" Rachel asked shakily.
"Shut up. I don't plan on negotiating with you. Now, come here," he said, waving the sharp carving knife at her.
Elaine woke up just then. When she saw Sam and his weapon, her eyes widened with fear.
"What is going on here?" she asked in a panic.
"Shut your pie hole, old woman, and go back to sleep!" Sam snapped rudely.
Zoe stirred in her sleep and Elaine got out of her bed to pat the child back to sleep.
"What do you think you're doing?" She whispered, addressing Sam.
"I said, shut up!" He said through clenched teeth. "Now, you come over here, and let's split before someone else comes into the room. Don't make me repeat myself."
His threat was loud and clear and Rachel hurried to obey him. He grabbed her by the wrist and dragged her to one of the bedroom windows.
"Climb out," he commanded her and she obeyed without hesitation.
When it was his turn to go out through the window, he paused briefly and said to Elaine, "Tell your boss that I have taken his wife out for a little honeymoon of my own. I'll be in touch soon. Sayonara!"
He jumped out through the window and grabbed Rachel again.
"Let's go," he said gruffly.
"Where are you taking me to?" she asked.
"Somewhere special," Sam sneered and eyeballed her cleavage with lustful eyes. "I'm going to get a taste of those goodies first and then I'll stash you somewhere until your billionaire husband comes through with some cool cash for me." "So, you're kidnapping me?"
"More or less," he said with a shrug.
"Y'all didn't think I was just going to sit around and eat fancy meals with you guys all day without making a move, huh?" He added with a sinister chuckle.
"That stupid bitch brought me here and wouldn't even spare me some cash so I can go out and do something fun," he complained. "All she ever wants is sex, sex, and more sex. What a disgusting old woman!" "Why did you come here with her if you never really liked her?" Rachel wondered.
"Why not? She's got money and I'm broke," he replied matter-of-factly. "At least, those jewels I finessed from her will be my reward for hooking up with her elderly ass."
Rachel hated how Sam was speaking rudely about Yasmin. She had never met anyone as ungrateful and entitled as this guy and she began to dislike him seriously.
He was taking her through the wooded area that separated their lodge from their next-door neighbors. It was a shortcut that led to the exit of the resort. Once they were outside, they would be in the territory of the locals where nobody knew her.
As they got closer to the security post at the resort gate, Rachel tried to think of a clever way to alert the guards and let them know that she was being abducted by this crazy man.
"Don't try anything stupid or else I'll stab you in the stomach and go back to the house to finish off your darling daughter," Sam whispered into her ear. It was as if he had been reading her mind.
"You keep quiet and let me do the talking," he ordered her as they neared the exit gate.
Rachel gulped shakily and nodded to let him know that she was fine with his plan. Sam encircled her waist with his arm, holding his knife close to her body. He made sure that it was hidden behind her robe so that the security guards wouldn't see it but she could feel the hardness of the blade.
It was a subtle reminder that if she tried to make any sudden moves, he would stab her in the stomach. A chill ran down her spine.
Rachel had never been so terrified in her life. This was supposed to be her honeymoon with Derek. Instead, she was being kidnapped by a maniac who had no qualms about cutting her up like a piece of meat if things didn't go his way. What did she ever do to him? Why did he target her? Had he been planning this all along or did this crazy idea just occur to him after he left the house earlier today?
Rachel wondered if Elaine had already alerted Derek about her situation. She hoped that he'd already called the security team to tell them that his wife had been kidnapped by their angry guest.
Now, Rachel felt stupid for convincing Derek to leave the bodyguards behind in New York. She'd been so sure that they wouldn't need them here.
How was she to know that she would need protection from someone that they brought on the trip with them in good faith? Sam would not have succeeded in attacking Javier or creeping into Zoe's room if any of the bodyguards had been around.
"Hey, men," said Sam jovially, catching the attention of the guards. "I told y'all I won't be long. I've found my missing watch and Mrs. Fraser here has offered to walk me to my taxi outside."
Rachel offered a stiff smile when the guards greeted her. One of the guards inside the security booth pressed a buzzer and the huge gate of the resort began to slide open. "OK, guys. Bye!" said Sam, cheerfully.
He half-dragged, half-pushed Rachel through the gates. Once they were outside the borders of the resort, he picked up his pace, pulling her along.
"We're going to hop on my rental motorbike and zoom off to the dock," he said excitedly. "We have a boat to catch."
"A boat?" Rachel asked, alarmed. "Where are you taking me to?"
"Away from this island," he answered gleefully. "You don't think I'm gonna hang around here and wait for your swanky husband to catch me, do ya?"
She sighed. "Listen, Sam, you can still get out of this. Tell me how much you want and I'll call Derek right now and tell him to wire it to your bank account immediately." He laughed. "And then get arrested? Where's the fun in that?"
"You will get arrested if you continue with this plan of yours," Rachel assured him. "But if you listen to me and let me speak to my husband, you'll get your money and walk away free." "Not a chance in hell, lady. I'm not stupid," Sam retorted and tightened his grip on her wrist. "Now, shut up and stay quiet until we get to our next destination."

"This is not going to end well for you, Sam," she warned him.
"Don't make me slice off your tongue, Rachel. Be quiet!"
With her heart beating in her chest wildly, she let him lead her toward the forest where his rental bike was hidden.
Before they disappeared into the dense woods, Rachel looked back toward the resort and wondered if Derek was already looking for her.
*******
"This can't be happening," Derek muttered incredulously after a frightened Elaine came to announce to him that Rachel had been abducted at knife-point by Sam. "Oh, god! What have I done?" Yasmin wailed.
"Calm down, Mom. I'll call the security guys at the gate right away," Derek said briskly. "He can't have gone very far with her, so we can still find them."
"We should call the police too," Elaine suggested. "What's their emergency number here?"
"Where the heck is that ambulance?" Yasmin demanded irritably. "Javier has slipped into unconsciousness. He needs to be taken to the hospital immediately."
They scrambled around the house to make phone calls from different phones. Zoe who was now awake, walked across the room and placed her favorite stuffed toy, Binky, on Javier's chest. "Okie, Na," she whispered to the unconscious chef.
Just then, they all heard the wails of an ambulance siren as it sped through the driveway.
"Finally!" Yasmin sighed, throwing her hands up in relief.
She went to the front door to open it and let the paramedics in. They quickly checked Javier's vitals, asked questions about what happened to him, and then strapped him on a gurney and carted him away.
"Should I go with him or do you need me to stay here with you guys?" Yasmin asked Derek.
"Yes, please, go with him. It would be nice for him to wake up and see a familiar face around him," Derek reasoned.
"What did the security guys say?" Yasmin inquired.
"They saw Sam and Rachel leaving the resort a few minutes ago," Derek informed her, "and one of them said he saw them heading toward the Manaka Forest Reserve. It's a short distance from here and they're calling the police right now as we speak."
"Thank goodness!" Yasmin sighed with relief. "I hope they catch that monster and lock him up forever. How could he do this to us?"
"I'm sure he'll be caught," Derek assured her. "Now, off you go with the ambulance. They're already leaving."
She hugged him tightly and whispered, "I am so sorry for this, darling. So sorry."
He hugged her back and said, "It's ok, Mom. Everything will be fine."

When she left, he turned his attention to Elaine. "Listen, I am going out now to join the search party. Please, make sure you lock all of the doors and windows as soon as I leave and never let Zoe out of your sight."
"B - but I thought you said the security guys are calling the police?" Elaine stuttered. "Why do you need to go too?"
"You don't expect me to sit here and wait when my wife is out there and possibly in danger?" He said in a tone that implied that Elaine's question was silly.
"But Sam-"
"Will be outnumbered shortly," he said, cutting off her protest. "Stay here with Zoe and lock everywhere up." "Mommy?" Zoe asked him.
Derek crouched so that he could be at the same eye level as her.
"Mommy is outside and she is waiting for me to come and get her," he explained, "so I need you to be a good girl and stay here with Nanny while I'm gone. Mommy and I will be back before you know it, ok?" "Okie," she said with a nod. "Go, Mommy?"
"Sure thing, sweetie. I'm going to get Mommy back," he said and gave her a quick hug and a kiss. "See ya."
"Please, be careful," Elaine whispered to him as she accompanied him to the door on his way out.
,
"I will," Derek replied with a warm smile. The nanny had become a member of his family and he appreciated her concern for his safety.
Once outside, he saw the resort manager approaching the house in a bright yellow golf cart.
"Mr. Fraser," he called out. "Where are you off to?"
"Where else?" Derek asked flippantly. He wasn't in the mood to answer dumb questions.
"I was just coming to inform you in person that the police are already on their way to the Manaka Forest Reserve to find your wife and arrest the kidnapper," said the manager.
"I'm glad to hear it," Derek replied with zero enthusiasm. "If you don't mind, I would like to borrow your cart."
"For what?" The manager wondered.
Derek sighed impatiently and said, "Listen, you are either going to drive me to the Forest reserve or get down from that thing and let me drive down there by myself. I am not going to sit inside the house and gnaw my nails to the bone while worrying about my wife's safety."
"Oh, sir, you have nothing to worry about," the manager assured him. "Our police force is very efficient. I am confident that they'll track down the kidnapper in no time. This is a very small island, after all."
Tired of the manager's rambling, Derek marched forward and dragged the lanky man out for the cart with one hand. He hopped inside the cart and grabbed the steering wheel firmly.
"Are you coming or what?" he asked the dazed manager who was staring at him in surprise.
"Absolutely! I know the terrain better than anyone else," the manager said quickly. He hurried into the passenger seat of the cart before Derek zoomed off.
