Chapter 24
Dakota
I was on my way inside Eric’s mansion when I sensed something sinister lurking beyond the garden and deep into the woods. They’re not exactly close yet, but I know they’re there and they’re coming way too fast. “Eric, something’s coming quick and they’re nowhere near friendly!” I shouted knowing that even though I was nowhere near anyone at this point, they will all hear me loud and clear with their supernatural ears. Streaks of multiple dark figures emerged and disappeared quickly from every corner as I made my way to where Eric was. Before I even got one foot on the first step, Eric was already standing in front of me.
“Octavia and her army are finally here. It is about to begin,” he simply said before taking my hand in his. “This is nothing like the war we have had back in your pack lands. We are not going to wait for them to make the first move, but instead, we are going to face them head-on. There are a couple of traps set up to slow them down and hopefully lessen their number, but this will be a hand to hand combat,” he explained as we made our way to the front. “Keep moving and do not be rash when you attack. Never let them get too close to you and kill them quickly. Lastly, stay close to me at all times little one. Do you hear me?” he asked and I answered him with a nod.
He stood in front of everyone and gave the entire forest an assessing sweep before adjusting his stance. “Luptați până la răsăritul soarelui!” (Fight until sunrise!) he barked before racing forward towards the incoming invaders his coven following closely behind him. It’s only now that I realized the number of vampires fighting alongside us which had me wondering where most of them have been hiding since they got here. I believe there are about sixty to eighty. I guess this is the standard number of members a vampire coven has, but what do I know. I rushed with them and shifted midway to heighten my senses and abilities. The ratio is definitely three to one, but that didn’t stop or scare us at all. Looking at Eric’s coven, it seems like they were bread for times like these. I don’t know about Octavia’s coven though, but she must’ve known the extent of trouble she’ll be facing when she decided to poke the beehive.
Believe it or not, I’m so looking forward to this especially meeting her. I want her to face my wrath. Make her suffer more than the way she made my mate suffer when she captured him. I want her dead and preferably from my own hands. I watched everything that’s going on around me as much as I snapped and shredded vampires apart. I watched their faces morph into shock whenever they come across my path. I also watched in fascination how my mate moved and killed his opponents and let me tell you, he’s one ruthless killer. Call me twisted, but I’m loving this side of him too.
He slashed, beheaded, and ripped every vampire that dared to attack him with precision and it didn’t matter if there were four or more coming at him. He went through them like a grass cutter that has gone mad. His face remained impassive, but his eyes had a murderous glint in them. This is the man I’m destined to be with. He may be gentle and loving most of the time, but no one should ever provoke him as he becomes the devil himself. He kept pushing forward as if he was trying to reach a certain point and so I kept up with him. He said I should stick close, so here I am sticking close while slamming and murdering as many vampires as I can. It's honestly becoming quite a workout, but there's no way I'm going to stop attacking even just for a second. Eric said this is a head to head war, so bring it!
He suddenly looked straight ahead and sneered while ripping another vampire's throat out. I followed his line of sight and saw a light-haired woman standing from afar looking regal, but displeased. Well, well, well, this must be Octavia. Finally! I studied her from afar starting from her silver hair which was tied back into a sleek ponytail down to her utterly white smooth skin. I hate to admit it, but she’s starkly beautiful and if she wasn’t such a bitch I would’ve envied her. She made no attempt to come forward, in fact, she just stood in place watching the scene unfold. I bet she didn't want to get her hands dirty and just expected her coven to die for her. Self-entitled and vindictive much?
She lifted her hands up into the air and dropped them forward quickly. I didn't get it at first, but just like that, more vampires came rushing in. Holy hell! How many vampires did she take with her? Eric's voice boomed saying something in Romanian before turning his head to look at me. He nodded once and lifted his chin towards the vampire queen and I quickly understood that he wants us to get to where she is right this second, so we both sprinted uphill towards Octavia. "What now?" I thought to myself and to my surprise, Eric's voice interrupted my monologue. "Am I imagining things, or did you really ask a question without speaking?" My head snapped in his direction, warmth surging through my heart. "You can hear me? You can hear me right now right?" I excitedly ask even though we were in the middle of a bloodbath.
He slammed his fist through another vampire's chest at the same time I tore another's arm out before he answered, "I believe I can little one." Oh my god! We're freaking mind-linking!
