Chapter 129 

Edith was so embarrassed that her face turned red. She wished she could vanish into thin air. 

After the doctor took off, she was so angry that she freed herself from his arms. In exasperation, she said, “Why didn’t you explain it to him? What should I do if this got out? 1 am Simon’s wife now. Do you want to throw away your reputation?” 

“You’ll be mine sooner or later. It’s just a matter of time. Do you think you can run away from me?” Carlos said with a confident smile. Seeing that she blushed, he gave her a pinch on the cheek. 

Finding that her skin was smooth and creamy, he couldn’t help pinching her cheeks a few more times. 

His actions irked Edith. She glowered at him and her eyes sparked with anger. 

“My blood is well up. Shame on you, Uncle Carlos. How can you be so childish? I won’t do you any favor,” she huffed. 

After that, she turned around and went upstairs. She was so shy that she didn’t dare stay any longer. 

Just as she was about to go to bed in the room, she heard someone opening the door. She got nervous immediately. 

Soon, the door opened, and Carlos came in. With a smug smile on his face, he shook the keys in his hand and said, “It’s useless to lock the door. I got a lot of spare keys.” 

“You’re being a jerk, Uncle Carlos!” she shouted. 

“I’m just a poor patient looking for help,” he said. 

“Where’s Sam?” she asked. 

“He didn’t come back after giving the doctor a ride home. There is no one else in the villa except you and me. I need to grab a shower and had my wound dressed again. Can you please give me a hand?” he said. 

He asked her to help him take a bath. 

How could he have such a shameless request? 

Her face instantly turned red. She wanted to refuse to do him those favors, but she found it hard to do so. 

What if he touched his wound in the shower? 

Once it got wet, the consequences would be unimaginable. 

Although it was his left arm that was injured, it caused much inconvenience to his life. 

In the end, she came up with an idea. She opened the shower curtain to keep her from seeing him naked. Then, she asked him to put his injured hand on the edge of the bathtub to avoid water. 

She would only help him with his back. And then she would leave the rest to himself. 

He was certain that she would compromise because she was a softhearted person who wouldn’t refuse a patient’s request. 

His wife was kind and easy to get tricked. 

Edith didn’t watch his back when she washed it, so she had no idea which part she was rushing. Carlos enjoyed her service and said, “Why do you reject me so much? Wouldn’t it be good to be my wife?” 

“Uncle Carlos, you’re indeed good and have got a lot of pull. You can help me handle everything. But that’s also the reason why I’m scared. You’re so excellent. You should marry someone that is worthy of you. I’m just an ordinary person. I’m not good for you,” she said.

So, you don’t think you deserve me, right?” he asked with a raised eyebrow. 

“Sort of. And my instincts tell me that you’re a dangerous man with many secrets you can’t share with me. I don’t like to be kept in the dark or fooled. That would make me feel like a joke. That sucks. You know what? I deceived myself into believing my… ex–boyfriend was only into me and he married my cousin because he had to be responsible for her. Time ticked by, and I refused to admit the fact. If I had faced the fact earlier, I would have been much happier,” she said lengthily. 

Upon hearing this, Carlos furrowed his eyebrows. She hated lies and getting played. When she learned that he was the one that she had married… 

Suddenly, he felt unhappy. The fact that they were married was like a death drop, which made him get queasy. 

It had been a long time since he had such a feeling. 

“What will you do if you find that 1 lie to you?” he said in a low, hoarse voice. 

Edith didn’t take his words seriously. She answered honestly, “What else can I do? I’m too weak to seek vengeance. But I finally grow to like you. and I hope you will not ruin it. Perhaps you don’t give it a shit, but it matters to me a lot. Once you damage our current relationship, it would never get back to the way it was. I’m afraid… I would never trust you.” 

Upon hearing this, Carlos fell silent for a long time. 

He didn’t expect that the consequences of keeping her in the dark were so serious. 

Damn it. Had he pushed her buttons? 

But things had gotten out of hand. 

“Can’t you… forgive me once?” he said. 

“Do you think I can forgive Johann for once? Although the way I feel about you differs from the way I felt about him, you’ll end up the same as him when it comes to deception,” she said. 

If she couldn’t even forgive the man she loved, how could she forgive him? 

Carlos didn’t know what to say. It looked like he had to keep that secret from her. He hoped that she couldn’t bear to part with him when she learned the truth. 

Or perhaps he could sleep with her. 

No, no. Having sex might be too much for her. If he did that, he would scare her off. 

He took a deep breath and finally controlled his desire. But she was going to reach his butt with the towel, he panicked and grabbed her hand immediately. 

When she felt the heat of his big hand, she was startled too. She asked, “What’s wrong, Uncle Carlos?” 

“If you keep doing this, I can’t guarantee what will happen tonight,” he said, breathing heavily. 

When she heard his words, she was so terrified that she clenched her hand into a tight fist. She moved the towel towards his neck instantly. 

There was no way Carlos would let her continue her job. He held her hand and said in a hoarse, deep voice, “I got this.” 

When she heard his sexy and charming voice, her heart missed a beat. An electric feeling rushed over her body. She froze immediately.
