Chapter 120 

“Uncle, can you… can you help me? You should be close with Simon’s mother, right? Won’t it be better if you talk to her?” 

“Why should I interfere in your business? What about your man? Can’t he stand up for you?” Carlos retorted. 

Edith felt a little embarrassed when she heard this. She didn’t have a man at all. She was at fault for involving Daniel in this. 

However, she couldn’t poke holes in her own lies. 

“He… he just arrived in Caurtine. How could he have any influence? This is just…” 

Before she could finish speaking, Carlos interrupted her ruthlessly. 

“If he can’t even protect you, you might as well let go of this sort of man.” 

These words echoed deeply in her mind like a mantra. 

If he couldn’t protect her… 

Might as well let go… 

Yes, a man who couldn’t protect those he loved was useless. 

That was why she had given up on Johann. 

Now that she was all alone, where was she supposed to find someone to help her fight against the Lawson family? 

After thinking about it for a while, it seemed that there was only one choice, and that was Carlos. 

Carlos could save her and help her get out of this mess completely. He held all the power in the Lawson family. 

The thing was… 

He only made use of her, and it was not love. 

“Then why didn’t you make your relationship with Meggie public? Wouldn’t going public protect her better?” she retorted. 

“What’s between us is not as you think. She will never be my wife,” Carlos said coldly. His words were disapproving of Meggie. 

This confused Edith. That wasn’t what Meggie had said. 

“Alright, I have some matters to deal with now. I’ll pick you up tomorrow evening. Pack up and wait for me.” 

“But…” 

Edith wanted to say something more, but Carlos had already hung up the phone. 

It seemed that thefe was really no other option. 

She returned to Sarah’s rented apartment, where Sarah was sitting on the couch watching TV. From the looks of it, she didn’t seem unwell at all. She had only been a little pale when they got back. Still, she had scared the living daylights out of Edith. 

“Sarah, are you feeling better?” 

“I’m on my period, so my tummy hurts. I’m fine now that I’ve had some painkillers. Did you send Daniel off?” Sarah asked. 

“Yes. You should hurry up and eat something. Daniel bought us a lot of delicious food!” 

“Edith, Daniel’s such a great man. Why is he single, do you think?” Sarah asked curiously. She looked at Edith with suspicion. “You think he’s great too,

and you’ll be single soon. Will you consider Daniel as an option once you get out of the Lawson family?” 

Edith almost spat out a mouthful of water when she heard that. 

She looked at Sarah strangely and asked, “Sarah, are you sure you’re feeling okay tonight? I know you like Daniel. How can I even think about wanting him?” 

“What if I can’t be with Daniel?” Sarah asked, continuing with her hypotheticals. 

“Even if you’re not together, I won’t be with him. Daniel is my idol, and this sacred admiration can’t be tarnished! I never thought about it in the past. because I had Johann, but I wouldn’t think about it either even if I’m single now. What’s more, I haven’t even had time to solve my own problems. I don’t have time to think about love.” 

Sarah heaved a sigh of relief when she heard this. If Edith really wanted to compete with her for Daniel, she would have no chance of winning. 

“By the way, I may have to go back to the villa tomorrow. Simon says that we can’t get a divorce anymore.” 

“Actually… I think Simon’s not bad. Didn’t you say that he gives you a good feeling? Besides, Carlos Lawson is not bad either. You can choose between uncle and nephew. You don’t have to leave the Lawson family at all.” 

Sarah’s eyes sparkled as she said this encouragingly. 

But Edith frowned slightly upon hearing this. In the past, Sarah had strongly opposed her marrying into the Lawson family, saying that it was a den of snakes. Why was she singing its praises now? 

She waved her hand, indicating that it was impossible. She had to escape from that cage as soon as possible. 

After all the fuss tonight, Edith was exhausted, so she went for a shower before heading to bed. 

She never expected that yesterday’s news would come back after marinating for a night. 

One of Meggie Huffam’s haters had popped out of nowhere saying that the news was a show Meggie had arranged to help promote her new project. 

The hater claimed that the headline had been specially commissioned. 

Moreover, the matter had already been closed by crisis management of the Lawson Group’s public relations department. They said that this was just a rumor, adding that Meggie and Carlos were only hiding their relationship to protect her acting career. 

Moreover, Meggie had yet to make a statement up until now, so the hater said that Meggie had lost control of her own plan and was facing the consequences for it now. 

Just as Meggie’s haters and fans really got into it, there were more theories. 

Some people said that it wasn’t Meggie who was making hype, but rather that someone was framing her. 

Someone even found the IP address of the first tweet’s poster and doxed the person online. 

When Edith saw the familiar Twitter handle, she was flabbergasted. Hadn’t she been using this before going abroad? 

She had stopped using the account soon after making it, only signing in to check for private messages. Now, she didn’t even look at it. 

Someone also commented saying that the account belonged to her, with the address showing her own neighborhood. All of her general information had been posted online. 

Her workplace, her current residence, and even the placed she hung out at were all online! 

Overnight, Edith had become the target of public criticism. 

Meggie’s fans had gathered, wanting to meet up in Caurtine and give Edith hell as the initiator of this mess. 

There were so many people who wanted her head that they needed five separate chat groups.

Additionally, the groups were all named in a very organized fashion. 

They were Revenge on Edith–Group A and Revenge on Edith Group B. 

And so on and so forth. 

Based on the growth of these chat groups, it seemed like thousands of people wanted to make trouble for Edith. 

When Edith saw the news, she was having lunch at the cafeteria. The internet was in a frenzy from the news. 

Some fans said that they were already at Simpledux’s office building, just waiting for the rest of the mob to arrive. 

Edith had to escape! 

These diehard fans were really terrifying. How had she suddenly become a hater out of nowhere? 

She was about to take the elevator down when Sarah grabbed her tightly. “Are you stupid? If you go down there like this, those people will definitely block your path! Take the stairs and leave through the garage! I’ll lend you my scooter. Hurry up and run!” 

Edith immediately grabbed Sarah’s scooter keys and rushed to the staircase. As she ran, she monitored the news on the internet. People were live- tweeting their experience, giving Edith updates in real–time. 

When she got to the garage, those fans were all waiting outside the building, even the entrance to the garage.
