Chapter 20

#Chapter 20: The Unknown Sister

This strange girl seemed familiar….

I must have seen her on Nathan’s wedding day, I thought to myself. It was odd, though. I had never met this girl before and Nathan hadn’t mentioned her since I came back. He didn’t have any sisters, either.

“Wait here,” Nathan said to me. “I’m going to get my mom so we can find a dress for you for the hunt.”

Suddenly, the strange girl grabbed Nathan’s arm and shook her head. I swore I saw her shoot me another disdainful glance, but Nathan didn’t seem to notice.

“Mom and dad won’t meet the spy’s daughter,” she said. “They’re both furious.”

Nathan let out a sigh and frowned.

“Um… I’m Olivia, by the way,” I said, trying to be polite although this girl made me uncomfortable already. “I don’t think we’ve met.”

“Oh! Right!” Nathan said, slapping his forehead. “Olivia, this is my adopted sister,

Jenifer.”

I took in the girl’s appearance. Similarly to Layla, Jenifer was slender and pale, and looked rather frail. However, whereas Layla’s demure appearance made her look

beautiful and charming, Jenifer just looked… sickly.

She looked nothing like me. She had long, wispy black hair that fell in straight lines all the way down to her buttocks, and a thin n*eck on which sat a slightly-too-

large head. Her green eyes, with dark circles underneath, were huge and almost

bulbous, giving her a somewhat amphibious appearance.

Her arms and wrists were extremely thin, and her fingers were long and slender.

She wore a flowy white dress and no shoes, and although I couldn’t see her b*dy

very well through the dress, I could still make out parts where her hip bones stuck

out through the fabric.

I thought to myself that this Jenifer girl might have been pretty, but she looked ill.

But maybe I was just being judgmental.

“It’s nice to meet you.” Jenifer stuck out her thin hand, and when I shook it, it almost felt as though I was holding a bird’s delicate wing.

“It’s nice to meet you, too,” I said.

Jenifer stared up at me for a moment without even blinking or showing any hint of

a smile, then abruptly turned to look at Nathan.

“I’ll go and see if mom and dad will come out of hiding.”

“Thanks, Jenifer,” Nathan said.

Both of us watched as Jenifer sk ipped off, disappearing up the large steps in the entryway. When she was gone, I turned slowly to Nathan and gave him a strange look.

“Listen,” Nathan said quietly, letting out an exasperated sigh. “I know she’s a bit strange. But she was bullied so badly in her old pack that some of the kids beat her

up and left her for dead. She was found in the forest in our territory and we decided to take her in. I know she’s nothing like you, but please be nice to her, okay?”

I nodded and clutched my chest at his bit of horrible information. “Of course,” I replied. “I wouldn’t dream of being mean to anyone for no reason.”

Nathan smiled slightly. There was a bit of a silence as we stood there, and I f ook the

chance to look around.

“You know, I think I was only here a handful of times,” I said, looking up at the high arched ceilings above us.

“It’s a big house, but a bit creepy in my opinion,” Nathan replied. He tapped my shoulder and nodded his head toward a room off to our right, and I followed him. Inside of the room was a sitting area with an enormous bay window that looked out

over the ocean.

The house was odd; it was outfitted with all modern appliances and furniture, but the house itself didn’t seem to be updated at all. The wooden floors creaked with each step, and the walls were all covered in busy wallpaper that was borderline garish.

“It’s my mom’s and dad’s taste mixing together,” Nathan said, noticing my confused look. “They’re too different. My dad is much more traditional, but I think my mom does try to keep up with the times.”

I opened my mouth to say anything, but before I could, a small voice suddenly rang out from behind me and made me jump.

“They’re not coming.”

I whirled around to see Jenifer standing behind us once again, in the doorway. Somehow, she had snuck up on us without causing the old wooden floorboards to creak even once. And she was holding something in her hand. It was a white dress on a hanger.

“Here,” she said, holding it out to me. “You can wear my dress.”

A few minutes later, I was standing in Nathan’s old bedroom with Jenifer’s dress in my hands. Nathan sat on the bed behind me and was fl*pping through a magazine while I held the dress up to myself in the mirror.

“It might be too small,” I said, holding the dress up. It seemed delicate, too, made out of a thin silk with a lace overlay. “I feel like I’ll rip it.”

“You’ll be fine.” Nathan licked his finger and turned the page. “We need to hurry, though. We’ll have to attend a ceremony before the hunt.”

I sighed. “Okay… Can you not look?”

Nathan nodded, still looking at his magazine without lifting his eyes. I nervously took my own clothes off and set them on the bed, then started to put the dress on.

I glanced up as I tugged the dress over my hips, and felt my face go red as I caught Nathan’s gaze in the mirror. He quickly looked away, and his face turned scarlet red

too.

“I-I thought I told you not to look,” I stammered.

“Sorry,” he muttered, returning to his magazine.

I sighed and continued putting on the dress. Once I finally got it on, I realized that it was rather tight, especially around the hips and butt area.

And I couldn’t reach the zipper.

“Hey,” I said, turning to face Nathan. “Can you zip me up?”

Nathan slowly looked up from his magazine. His eyes wandered almost lustfully up my b*dy, which was accentuated by the tight-fitting dress. Once again, his cheeks turned red but he nodded and walked over to me.

I turned around and moved my brown hair out of the way so he could zip me up. Almost as though he didn’t realize, he rested one hand on my hip while he zipped up my dress with the other. It was snug, but it went up.

But his hand didn’t move away right away.

I swallowed and met his gaze in the mirror again. He was staring right at me, and I instantly felt myself soften a bit beneath his

eyes.

Suddenly, he quickly pulled his hands away and scratched his head, looking almost disappointed.

“What is it?” I asked, immediately becoming self conscious. “It is too tight, isn’t it?”

Nathan vigorously shook his head. “No, it’s not that. It’s just…” He paused, licking his l*ps subconsciously as he looked at me. “You’re gonna get a lot of attention from other guys in that. Stick close to me today, okay?”

I felt my heart sk ip at this sudden compliment from my childhood friend. For a few moments, we just stared at each other until there was a sudden knock on the door, and the door cracked open to reveal Jenifer standing there.

“It’s time to go,” she said. She looked at Nathan first and cast him a warm smile, but then her eyes fell on me.

And something about her smile seemed to turn cold and stiff as she looked at me.
