Faith With Wolves Book 2

Chapter 17. Digging Up the Past

Faith

“So how are things going with my son? Caleb’s being a gentleman I hope.” Luna Alice asks me as we walk together through town. We’re on our way to the pack’s new community garden and I’m supposed to give a speech but I’m really nervous. I hate public speaking.

“He’s great.” I smile trying not to blush, but it’s inevitable when I talk about Caleb. “We’ve been going on some very fun dates lately, rock climbing, touring a winery and we even have a cute little picnic planned next.”

“Wow, I knew my son had good taste; he gets that from me you know. Christopher’s idea of a fun date is drinking a beer while eating popcorn in bed.” She laughs, making me laugh right along with her.

“That's pretty terrible, how do you put up with that?”

She sighs. “We do a lot for the ones we love. Which is why I have to ask you what’s the plan for this mystery virus. Have you and Caleb figured out who is behind it?”

“No, but we’re getting closer. We have a few leads we just haven’t investigated them yet... It's personal I guess.” I shrug and Alice nods.

“It’s hard being in charge but I’m sure you understand that,” she says and stops walking to face me. “Being a Luna means making hard decisions. We might not always like what we have to do but we do it anyway; for our friends, family, and most of all for our pack. I’m sure you and Caleb will make the right decision.”

“But what if I’m not a good Luna? What if I keep making all the wrong decisions and someone gets hurt, I just want to save the pack-”

“Then you will.” She interrupts me. “I haven’t known you long Faith, but I can see how determined you are. I can also see how much you care about the pack. I have faith that you will do anything in your power to help keep us safe.”

I nod and we begin walking again. It’s a comfortable silence but my mind is still scattered over our conversation. I’m flattered Alice has so much faith in me but I’m not sure I deserve it.

Ten more packs have been affected by the virus and a few vampire clans but they’re being very secretive so I’m not sure how many to be precise. Vampires have always been tight-lipped about their clans, so they won’t tell us much except they're dealing with it on their own.

I want to help as many people as possible but it’s easier said than done. The vampires don’t want our help and with Caleb refusing to question Alpha Raymond our investigation is at a standstill. Our tech guy is still hacking into Sweet Desire’s system, so we have no progress on that either.

I’m trying to be an understanding mate, but I’m frustrated with Caleb. Instead of talking to me about the virus he’s been distracting me with dates. The dates are nice, and I appreciate our alone time together, but Caleb needs to stop being so loyal to another alpha and be loyal to his pack. I’ll be here to heal anyone if they get sick even though I worry I’m not enough.

I’m not enough and never will be

I repeat this over and over until a great idea pops up. It’s a truly insane idea and I have no idea if it will actually work but if it does the results will be amazing. I won’t tire myself out anymore and there will be no more lives lost. I just have to figure out how to do it.

“Faith we’re here. You have a speech prepared right? All these wolves came out to support you and your fabulous idea.” Alice says interrupting my thoughts.

I can’t stop smiling. “I’m ready, let’s do this.”

Alice walks beside me and we start greeting a few wolves. Once I get past them, I grab a shovel and look at the crowd of wolves around me. The men and women of all ages are eager to hear what I have to say and ready to get their hands dirty.

“Thank you all for coming. For those I haven’t met personally, I’m Faith Wilder your Luna. I know we’re all here because we want to help our community. This garden will help produce fresh food for our school system and if it’s successful we’ll create more to help feed our whole pack, that’s the goal anyway. But before we get started digging, I want to tell you more about who taught me how to garden so well, an elf I call family. He’s my uncle Theo and maybe one day you’ll get to meet him.”

I’m completely covered in dirt as I make my way upstairs towards my bedroom. Warrior training just finished so I’m not the only one trudging dirt and sweat inside. The whole bottom floor of the packhouse is disgusting and I feel terrible for who has to clean it.

As soon as I walk into my room, I can hear the shower running. Gardening ended earlier than it was supposed to so Caleb isn’t expecting me. Which means he’s naked and vulnerable. So vulnerable I may have to attack him.

I immediately strip off my clothes not caring where they land. I sneak up to the bathroom door trying to open it without making a sound. It squeaks and I hurry and enter the bathroom shutting the door behind me with a slam.

Caleb doesn’t say anything, and I just stand outside the shower staring at his body through the fog-covered glass. My mouth waters watching the soap slide down his toned chest. His muscular arms move so precisely as he glides his fingers through his wavy black hair.

“Are you going to keep watching or join me?” He chuckles and even his deep laugh has me turned on.

“Maybe I’ll just stay out here and watch.” I tease him back.

He growls and the shower door slides open. “You stink, get in here so I can get you dirty the proper way.”

I roll my eyes playfully. “Well, if you insist how can I say no?”

Caleb yanks me inside the shower and our mouths and hands instantly find each other. I’m not sure where he ends, or I begin as he hoists me up and my legs wrap around him.

“Fuck you’re perfect,” he growls against my neck and thrusts his hard member inside me.

“Ahh Caleb.” I moan and grip onto his shoulders for support. Caleb just keeps rolling his hips making my head fall back in pleasure.

Hard and fast, he continues to slam into me. It feels like he’s trying to break me in half as his hard member seems to reach deep inside me. His moans and my screams of pleasure are all I can hear.

Caleb then begins peppering kisses along my neck and jaw before pressing a soft kiss to my lips. “I love you.” He whispers and before I can answer his tongue invades my mouth.

Our kiss is desperate, like if we stop kissing, we’ll stop breathing. But I don’t need air, I just need him and the way he knows my body as if it was crafted just for him.

Maybe it was

His fingers reach down massaging my sensitive nub and the pressure starts to build. I’m a panting moaning mess and I’m not going to last much longer. Caleb must know this too because he picks up his pace and his thrusts get sloppier from how wet I am.

“I’m about to-”

“Me too baby, you’re so fucking wet and tight for me. My wolf is begging to mark you again,” he growls.

“Do it, please,” I beg.

“Mine,” he whispers and sinks his teeth into the crook of my neck.

Waves and waves of pleasure pass through my body. Caleb is still pounding mercilessly as I clench around him. A scream of pleasure leaves my lips and I finally come undone.

Caleb moans in pleasure and begins licking along my mark. He slowly pulls out and I feel so empty already. Like a piece of my soul is gone. That’s how my mate makes me feel every time we make love, complete.

“Wow.” Caleb sighs and cups my chin. ’We’re going to have to do that again.”

“Again?”

He nods, smirking at me. “Hell, yeah baby I’m not done with you yet. Let’s clean up before round two.”

.... And so, we have round 2

And three

When we finally emerge from the shower and we’re both dressed I decide it’s the best time to talk with Caleb. We need to discuss Alpha Raymond and I need to tell him about my idea to help.

My mate is looking as handsome as ever as he relaxes on our bed. He has one arm propped behind his head and he’s scrolling through his phone with his free hand. He’s dressed casually in jeans and a white cotton shirt, but the simple outfit looks amazing on his golden skin and toned body.

I slowly make my way over and straddle him. He hums and sets his phone down before smiling at me. “I thought you were sore; don’t tell me you need more baby. It’s almost lunchtime.”

I shake my head. “I am pretty sore, maybe later we can have some more fun.”

He winks. “I bet you are sore baby, can’t handle me anymore.”

“Ugh.” I groan. “Don’t get cocky. I have literally nobody to compare it to so for all I know you could be terrible.” I tease earning a growl from Caleb.

“And you never will. As long as I’m breathing nobody will touch you and when I die, I’ll become a ghost and haunt you.” He taunts and I roll my eyes.

“So like a ghost mate?”

“Yup exactly, so good luck ever moving on. I’m yours forever,” he states, and I cup his face and press my forehead against his.

“Don’t worry with my fae powers we do have forever so you don’t have to worry about me moving on to a stronger more handsome mate.” I laugh and he chuckles.

"How about instead of worrying about forever we focus on right now and how badly I want you." he licks his lips his hooded eyes raking my body over.

I groan. “Right now we have other things to worry about. Like Alpha Raymond, he knows something and you need to talk to him ASAP.”

Caleb sighs and sits up. I try to climb off his lap, but he just grips my hips keeping me in place. “Don’t move, please. This will be easier to talk about with you close.”

I’m confused. “Talk about what? What’s going on Caleb?”

“The reason I haven’t reached out to Alpha Raymond is because I’m scared,” he confesses, and I raise an eyebrow at him. “I’m not scared of Alpha Raymond, Faith. I’m scared of what he’s going to say. I’ve known him for most of my life and I don’t want to find out someone I look up to is actually a bad guy. If what we’re thinking is right, then he knew his pack members were sick and let them die. And that’s not the Alpha Raymond I know.”

I nod understanding what he’s saying. “Then tell me about the Alpha Raymond you know and that will help me eliminate him from my list of suspects.”

He sighs. “I’ve known Alpha Raymond since I shifted. When I started shadowing my dad to become an alpha he was one of the few alphas who was nice to me. He didn’t treat me as a dumb kid and has given me lots of good advice over the years. He’s more like an uncle.”

“He sounds like a good guy. I know he was really kind when I talked to him.”

“He’s very kind. When my dad got sick, he constantly visited. Alpha Raymond never gave up on my dad like the other alphas did. They would play chess together weekly and they would sit and talk for hours. He was there for my family, and I can’t imagine him poisoning himself and his pack. He wouldn’t do that.” Caleb shakes his head, and a tear rolls down his cheek which he wipes. “I’m sorry to get upset. I don’t like thinking about my dad being sick, it was rough.”

“No need to explain love, you’re allowed to have emotions. Cry, scream, or whatever. I won’t judge you ever.” I smile at him.

“I love you, Faith,” he says softly, and I press a lingering kiss to his lips.

“I love you more.” I wipe a stray tear from his face. “Which is why I think you’re correct, Alpha Raymond is innocent. But he still knows something. You need to talk to him, maybe it's something simple he forgot.”

“You’re right I’ll talk to him, but first I need something from my mate.” He laughs and flips us over so I’m on my back. My blonde hair sprawled on the mattress and my arms pinned above my head.

“I thought you were hungry.” I tease and he begins unbuttoning my jeans and yanking them down.

“I am, for you!”

Caleb yanks my jeans all the way off and throws them away. I’m still laughing as he climbs between my legs and is staring at my glistening pussy.

“Fuck no panties, you’re naughty Faith.” He licks his lips and tries to dive in, but I push his face away making him grunt. “Ugh, what.” he protests.

"I need to talk to you about something, first. It’s important.” I pout and he rolls his gorgeous blue eyes.

“Can’t it wait, I’m starving here woman!” He motions between my legs making me laugh again.

“I promise you can finish in a moment. But I need to tell you my idea before we get busy, or I forget. Your mom helped me think of it earlier actually.”

He groans and sits up. “Alright, mentioning my mom just killed the mood. Just tell me what it is?”

I can’t stop smiling and want to laugh when I see how hard he is, but I refrain from doing it and continue speaking. “I was thinking if we can’t figure out how to stop the virus then we need to continue to treat it. And since me and my mom can’t possibly keep healing everyone then we need help.”

Caleb looks utterly confused. “How are we going to get help if we don’t know what cures it? We’ve tried several herbs and potions, but nothing has worked.”

“Umm... Well, I was thinking I could have Iris hypnotize me and I could go to the Fae dimension through my self-consciousness and ask them for help. Thiers plenty of them so I’m su-”

“NO! Not just no But FUCK NO! Faith, I’m not letting you travel to the fae dimension whether it’s through your self-consciousness or your real fucking body!” He shouts and climbs off our bed. Caleb just stands beside it glaring at me.

“Are you serious? This could be our only way to make sure nobody else dies! We could save lives!”

He scoffs. “And what about your life Faith? Sasha told me about how they treated her there, like an outsider because she was part human and mated to a vampire. Newsflash Faith you’re a fucking vampire and a human, they won’t accept you or help you!”

“You don’t know that! The elders gifted me to my mom, I wasn’t supposed to be born but since she defeated the black witch they helped her get pregnant. They will help trust me.”

“They gifted you to her as a parting gift. They banned her from ever returning and made her promise to never tell you how you were created. You’re the fairy's little dark secret and I doubt they want to see your face again regardless of how beautiful it is.”

“Well, I’m going Caleb, and you can’t stop me.” I snap and start to walk past him out of our room, but he grabs my arm and I yank it back quickly.

“Don’t touch me!” I shout and he raises his hands.

“My bad I was just trying to stop you from walking away.”

I hug myself feeling really vulnerable. “Just don’t touch me.”

He shakes his head in disbelief. “I won’t I’m sorry. But Faith, stop being so naive. Your idea is stupid! The fairies will never help us. It’s up to us to figure out this situation, actually, it’s up to me because I don’t want you to help anymore. It’s too risky and I won’t lose you.”

“You don’t want me to help, really?”

“No, I don’t. I’ll go talk to Alpha Raymond right now, but I want you to stay here. And I’m serious when I say I forbid you from trying to go the fae dimension, it’s too dangerous.”

I scoff. “Fine Caleb I'll do whatever you want. if not you'll just lock me up again!”

“Yeah, maybe I will!” He snaps and storms out of our bedroom slamming the door behind him.

Once I can’t hear his footsteps anymore, I slump down to the floor and let the tears spill.
