Chapter 1. New Beginnings
Faith
“No way Sasha! You really did that?”
“I’m telling you pineapple does go on pizza!”
“The ceremony was beautiful we should throw more parties.”
Conversations like this are all I’ve heard for the last two weeks. My parents arrived for my Luna ceremony, and I thought they would leave once it was over but instead, they’ve practically moved in.
The infamous Zane and Sasha Wilder have become best friends with Caleb’s parents Christopher and Alice. Almost every day they are here at the packhouse making my life miserable.
I love my parents, but their presence is suffocating. I feel like every time I turn a corner one of them is there waiting to give me a speech. My mom giving me advice on how to be a great leader or my dad asking questions about Caleb because even though we’re soulmates he still thinks no boy is good enough for his precious daughter.
The whole point of me moving out of the royal palace was to create space between us but my parents have completely invaded my life. The short time of independence I had is gone. Everyone just sees me as the daughter of the vampire king, and I have no idea how I’m going to prove I can be a fit Luna if this continues.
Sighing, I continue walking towards the kitchen where all the parents are gathered eating breakfast and reminiscing over old times. But before I can reach the kitchen a bright smile graces my presence and I’m engulfed in a tight hug that sends sparks all over my body.
“Our parents are talking about their high school flings, and I think I’m going to vomit all over the floor,” Caleb whispers making a fake gagging noise.
My gray eyes roll in annoyance. “Would it be terrible to say I wish our parents didn’t become best friends?”
Chuckling Caleb presses a soft kiss to my forehead. “Don’t let them stress you out Faith. Your parents just miss you. I’m sure they'll go back home tomorrow.”
“You say that every day and every day you’re wrong." I smile back at him adoring how handsome my soulmate is. His short wavy black hair and crystal blue eyes along with his sharp jawline make Caleb look the perfect epitome of a Greek God. I still wonder how I got so lucky to be in a relationship with someone so strikingly handsome.
“Well, I overheard your parents talking about a trip, so I think this time they’re actually going to be gone longer than a day,” he says making me feel hopeful.
“Really?”
He nods. “Really. That means we can finally get that alone time I’ve been craving I miss you,” he whispers cupping my face and pressing a lingering kiss to my lips. His arms wrap around my waist pulling me ever closer to him making me lose all rational thoughts.
“I want you,” I whisper along his lips.
Caleb starts peppering kisses along my jaw and then down to my neck. He licks, bites, and sucks on my marking spot. The sparks I’ve been feeling are suddenly intensified as they shoot down to my now throbbing core.
“I want you to Faith, so bad.”
“Then take me.”
He lifts me and my legs wrap around his waist. Our lips collide in a deep tongue-filled kiss. My back hits the wall making a loud noise and I know it will only be a matter of seconds before we’re interrupted. Caleb knows it too as he gently puts me down and backs away.
“Phew. We’ll have to finish later. Our parents are waiting and-
“And you’re too busy deflowering my only daughter to come and eat the wonderful breakfast your mother cooked.” My dad’s voice interrupts making us both stare at him with wide eyes.
“Umm... umm good morning, sir.” Caleb clears his throat and looks at me nervously.
I’m so annoyed. “Shouldn’t you be with mom? Geez you’re everywhere!” I complain and walk away before I snap.
Dad’s voice lingers behind me. “What’s her problem?”
“Uhm no idea,” Caleb says sounding unsure even though he knows what my issue is.
Entering the kitchen, I go straight to the kitchen island and pour myself some coffee before sitting. Caleb arrives and sits beside me and begins fixing us both a plate of food. He sits mine in front of me and then begins eating his.
“Good morning son, Faith. I prepared lots of food today so eat as much as you’d like.” Alice Caleb’s mom smiles at us. Unlike Caleb and his dad Alice has chestnut brown hair and brown eyes. It’s safe to say Caleb takes after his dad except for his mom’s high cheekbones. Caleb definitely has that.
“Thanks, Alice I love your cooking.” I smile back at her earning a nod in return.
“You really outdid yourself, Mom, everything tastes delicious,” Caleb says between bites.
Christopher speaks next. “I missed my mates cooking when I was sick. I’m so happy I can eat a meal with my family again.” He looks at me.
I smile back nervously when I notice everyone’s eyes on me. I’m still not used to so much attention on me even though I’ve had to deal with it all my life. I’m slowly adjusting to it since I’ve officially become Luna. Werewolves come and greet me constantly or ask for advice. I never realized people would value my opinion as much as the wolves here do.
“It was a nice thing you did for Caleb’s family Faith. I’m really proud of you.” Mom’s eyes meet mine.
“I’ll never be able to repay you for bringing my mate back to me, but I’m so grateful.” Alice wipes her eyes trying not to cry.
“It wasn’t a big deal. I would have helped anyone.”
Dad points at me. “See that’s the wonderful little girl I raised, so humble. Caleb, you’re a lucky wolf.”
“I really am.” Caleb winks at me making me roll my eyes at his flirting.
Dad continues. “And I want you to keep up that happy spirit no matter what Faith. I don’t want to alarm you but some big things are happening and your mom and I are leaving sooner than expected.”
“Thank goodness,” Caleb mutters under his breath and I elbow him.
“Not that I’m sad to see you go but what’s going on? Are things okay back at the royal palace?” I ask watching my dad make eye contact with my mom then Christopher and Alice.
My mom clears her throat. “We got news of a few different clans having issues, they got terribly sick. It was so bad they ripped their hearts out,” she says shocking me and Caleb.
“Vampires can get sick?” Caleb asks, looking at my parents and then clutching my hand with his. Thanks to being marked I can feel how worried he is.
Dad nods. “No, so it’s very strange.”
“Werewolves are also getting sick. The Dark Skies Pack is completely gone now.” Christopher adds and hugs his wife.
Caleb stands up. “What are we doing about it? Is there a cure? What are the symptoms?”
His dad waves him off. “Zane and I are handling it there’s no need to worry.”
The conversation changes quickly with our parents discussing everything but the impeding virus. But I can’t seem to wrap my head around what I just learned. Caleb is also silent beside me and I know he's worried.
Vampires are getting sick and dying, that’s insane. Also, werewolves are being affected. A whole pack was wiped out by the deadly virus, and I have no idea how fast it’s spreading.
As the Luna of Blue Moon Pack, I have to stop this; I just have no idea how.
