Extinguishing Wildfire

Chapter 6: Desires

Aaliyah

‘Our mate is here! Go to our mate’ I had gone for an early morning run, and Hope scented our mate, begging me to go find him.

‘Lead the way,’ I had no energy to fight her on this anymore, and I would admit, only to myself, that a small part of me was excited to see Jordan.

We ran deeper into the woods and stopped right as we saw Neo drinking from a stream. He looked up at the sound of me next to him. Neo and Hope happily nuzzled and licked each other in greeting. We let them run and wrestle on the soft grass, but the longer they interacted, the more I thought about Jordan.

As far as men, he really was everything I could have hoped for in a mate. He was the embodiment of kindness, joy, and fortitude that I had always wanted in a mate. It didn’t hurt that his looks also drew me in.

After a while, Neo and Hope settled down by the stream, and Jordan shifted back into his human form right before my eyes. Hope wasn’t shy and let her gaze linger on his hard planes before dipping down lower to see the rest of him. She relinquished control, and I came forward, shifting into my human form.

Before either one of us could resist, we were on each other. Our hands raked all over each other and our mouths were fused in a searing hot kiss. I let him lay me down and spread my legs out before him so that he could see exactly what he did to me. He caressed my inner thigh and just as he positioned himself at my entrance, I woke up in a tangle of sheets.

A dream! It was just a dream!?

‘Hope, was this your doing?’

‘Hey, I have to get you to realize what you want somehow. If you won’t listen to my words, then maybe you’ll listen to your subconscious thoughts.’

Our wolves could sometimes access our dreams as they were connected to our minds, and Hope had taken the opportunity to give me a dream about Jordan. Ever since our kiss, she had been working hard to get me to change my mind.

‘I’ll get you to let him mark us one way or another.’

‘Hope, why can’t you just understand my reasoning? Yes, Jordan is obviously a great guy, but he’s not for me.’

‘Does what I want not matter then? What about Neo?’

I sighed, not knowing how to answer, but still letting my heart rate settle back down after that dream.

‘You’re risking us ending up feral without each other. You should just talk to Jordan and tell him what you’re scared of, he might actually understand. Why are you putting us through this torture?’

With that, she retreated to the back of my mind and shut herself off from me. I had never seen her this upset before, but I just couldn’t do what she wanted. I didn’t want to give up my dreams.

I couldn’t get back to sleep after that dream, so I got up and changed for training. I had never loved Mondays, but I was looking forward to helping out at the clinic this afternoon. Hadley and I worked together last week, and the two of us had really hit it off. She was not at all what I would expect from someone raised in the Wildfire pack.

I still had an hour before training, so I headed out for a run. I thought Hope might be in a better mood once I let her out, so I stopped at a clearing on the edge of the forest line and stripped off my clothes. I prepared myself to shift, but nothing happened.

‘Hope,’ I called out but got no response. ‘Hope?’ I tried again, but still nothing. She must be really angry at me to not even want to shift. I turned around to get dressed again and came face-to-face with none other than Neo.

“Neo…” My eyes widened as the wolf before me shifted back into my mate. I got a strange feeling of deja vu as my mind went back to the dream I had this morning.

Jordan looked even better in person than he had in my dream, and I had a difficult time keeping my eyes off of him. Before I could react, he caged me in between himself and the tree behind us.

I was overwhelmed by his scent and the heat I felt coming off of his body. Jordan dipped his head to my ear and slid his hand down to my waist. The sparks flooded through me causing me to gasp.

“I don’t like you being out here like this. Anyone can come by and see you…see what should be only for my eyes.” He pulled me against his body, and I looked up to see his eyes glow blue. I’ve never been into the possessive Alpha types, but somehow I didn’t mind this from Jordan. My body melted right into his, and I grabbed onto his arms.

“But I’m not yours…” I said as he started to place soft kisses along my jaw and neck.

“Are you sure about that?” He said into my neck. “Your body seems to think otherwise. I can smell your arousal.”

Well, fuck. He wasn’t wrong about that as I could feel myself already dripping for him. I whimpered as he reached down and squeezed my ass, pushing me further into him. He was quite obviously just as aroused as me. He crushed his lips against mine, and I was completely lost to him. I eagerly returned his kiss and jumped up to wrap my legs around his waist. He maneuvered us around and gently laid me down on the grass, keeping our lips pressed together the entire time.

He settled himself on top of me, and I relished in the feeling of his heavy body over mine. I kept my legs wrapped around him, and he ground himself into my core. I moaned into his mouth, wanting more from him.

Jordan suddenly pulled back to sit on his knees, and I spread out my legs before him just like I did in my dream. I may not want him for the long term, but I want him right now. He looked at me, asking me for permission with only his eyes, and I gave him a nod as I mouthed 'Yes.' He didn’t waste any time as he entered me in one fluid motion. Jordan filled me so perfectly, and if I wasn’t lost to him before, I certainly was now. He returned to my lips, and our bodies moved together in perfect rhythm. Everything about this felt good and right, and I let him completely consume and have me. As I reached my release, I felt Hope resurface. My feelings for Jordan intensified as Hope surged forward. My gums tingled as my fangs came out, but before Hope could fully emerge, I pushed Jordan off of me.

‘Hope, how could you?’

I rushed off to where I had left my clothes, angry at Hope for nearly marking Jordan.

“What’s wrong?” Jordan was still on the ground, looking at me, shocked by my actions.

“This was a one-time thing, it can’t happen again.”

He looked at me with an unreadable expression, and he swiped at his face before shifting into his wolf and running off.

I finished dressing and walked back to the packhouse. I needed to wash Jordan’s scent off of me before anyone noticed. I couldn’t go to training like this. Luck, however, was not on my side today.

“Hey, Liyah, there you are,” Kedrick stopped me at the stairway to our floor. His eyes widened as he got closer to me, and I tried to step back, but I was sure his Alpha nose could smell what I had just been up to. I took a deep breath to steady my nerves as I didn’t want to appear any more guilty than I already felt.

“Ellis wanted me to talk to you about hosting a slumber party for some of the girls...Nora, Gema, Hadley, and Jasmine.”

“A slumber party? I’m not sure that’s a good idea. I don’t really know them, so I’m sure they’ll be uncomfortable around me.” I wasn’t sure at all, but I knew I didn’t want to be around the girls who were closest to Jordan.

“Look, I know I don’t usually use the Alpha card on things, but Ellis and I really think this could help those girls. They really need something to help them feel more normal, and we need your help with this.” He paused to let me respond but continued when I didn’t speak, “Please? For me, just one night. You don’t have to become best friends with them.”

He was begging me with his eyes to say yes, so I caved. “Fine, I’ll do it. One night, and I’m inviting Carissa.”

“Great! I’ll let Ellis know.” He smiled as he patted my back. “Thanks, sis, I knew you’d come through.” He started to walk off, “Oh, and be careful. He’s already lost both his mate and his parents. You have a mate out there too, so I’d hate to see him get attached to you. Don’t play with his heart.”

“What are you talking about?” I tried to feign innocence even though I felt anything but.

“Look, we’re both adults here…I can smell Jordan all over you. Just be careful, okay? For both of your sakes.”

With that, he walked off and left me standing in the hallway like a complete idiot. I really needed to wash Jordan's scent off of me before heading down to training.

I made it to training just in time, but I didn’t see Jordan. Instead, I saw Beta Cristian standing with the other trainers. Where was Jordan?

Jordan

She left me high and dry again. I laid down in the soft grass willing my dick to calm down. At this rate, I’d become a fucking Smurf if she kept this up.

‘She almost marked us, though.’ Neo puffed out his chest with pride, happy that our mate wanted to stake her claim.

‘Yeah, she wants us. She’s just too stubborn to let us in...or at least to let us into her heart.’

‘She’ll come around. Her defenses are slowly crumbling.’

‘I hope so, but for now, I think it’d be best if I don’t see her for a while.’

I went upstairs to my room and linked Noah and Cristian to meet me in my room.

“Hey guys, thanks for coming. I know this is a bit short notice, but I need your help.”

“With what?” Noah made himself comfortable on my chair while Cristian took my bed.

“I need one of you to switch with me for training today.”

They looked at each other before turning back to me, “Does this have anything to do with your mate?”

Cristian was too perceptive for his own good, but that’s part of what made him a good Beta.

“We kind of…maybe…sort of…” They both looked at me with raised eyebrows as I avoided finishing my statement.

“You kind of what?” Noah waved his hand in a circular motion indicating for me to go on.

“We slept together.”

“You fucked your mate?” Cristian gave me a surprised look as Noah appeared dumbstruck.

“Come on, man, you don’t have to say things so crudely. This is my mate we’re talking about. Have some respect.”

“Yeah, that’s our next Luna you’re talking about.” Noah shoved Cristian’s shoulder as he spoke.

“Sorry, guys.” He looked down, appearing embarrassed at his use of language.

“It’s okay, just reign it in when talking about our mates.”

“I’m sure you’ll find your mate soon enough, and then you’ll get where we’re coming from,” Noah added.

“Goddess forbid, I’m not ready for all that mate drama. I have enough with you two, so I can wait another few years for mine.”

“I don’t know, that sounds like you’re putting it out into the universe to have her show up soon.” Noah and I laughed as Cristian shook his head.

“You fuckers,” He laughed along with us, “But in all seriousness, I hope she doesn’t show up until this whole mess with Wildfire is over. I don’t think I can handle having my mate in between all of this shit. It’s been hard enough with my sister.”

“I get it, it’s not ideal, but Gema’s safe now.”

We nodded and had a quiet moment before Cristian spoke up again. “I’ll switch classes with you. Come on, let’s head out. We've got a busy week.”
