Extinguishing Wildfire

Chapter 26: Rebecca

Isaiah

They had me pull over to the side of the road while I waited for Rebecca to get off duty, but I was happy to do so. I took the time to call up my brother.

“Hey, I made it.” I couldn’t keep the joy out of my voice even if I tried.

“By the sound of it, things are going well?”

“Yeah, she’s still working, so I’m waiting for her to get off, but they’ll let me in for two hours to help her pack.”

“Help her pack? Does that mean she’s coming home with you?”

“We haven’t really gotten a chance to talk, but she said she wants to come home with me. I’ll know more once she’s off.”

“Alright, you remember the plan?”

“Yes, I’m a warrior from Riversong. I met Alpha Tate’s brother when he went to college in Washington, and I’m here for his birthday.”

“Perfect. I’ve already confirmed that Luna Beatrix and Alpha Will will vouch for you should anyone ask.”

“That’s good to know. I’ll get in touch again as soon as I’m safely in Brown Claw.”

“Alright, have fun with your mate. Hopefully, we’ll see you both tomorrow.” I could hear the smile in my brother’s voice, and for a moment I felt a twinge of guilt as I remembered that my sister was still at Wildfire. It somehow felt wrong to be happy in the midst of this war.

After hanging up with Kendrick, I woke to the sound of knocking on my window. I hadn’t even realized I fell asleep until now. It made sense that I would as it had been a long drive, and I’d woken up extra early for the drive.

I was immediately wide awake as I saw my mate’s smiling face through the glass though. I rolled down the window and was once again overwhelmed by her scent.

“Hey, get in, and you can tell me where to go.” She came around to the other door and sat down. I wanted to hold her hand so badly, but I was sure it was too soon for that. “How far is your house from here?”

“About 30 minutes.”

I went to put my truck in drive when I felt her hand over mine.

“Wait,” She took a deep breath, and before I even registered her movements, she had her other hand on my cheek and was pressing her lips against mine. She moved softly and slowly against me, but an explosion of tingles hit me, and she tasted just like the sweet vanilla she smelled like, leaving me entirely breathless. She started to pull away, but I captured her hand on my cheek and deepened our kiss. After a few minutes, we both pulled away breathless.

“I’m sorry, I have been wanting to do that since you pulled up. I’m not usually this forward, but Serena’s been going crazy since she scented you.”

“Serena? Is that your wolf?”

She nodded, and her eyes shifted to silver as her wolf greeted me.

“Well, you and Serena have nothing to apologize for. That was the best first kiss I’ve ever had.”

She gave me her best smile, and Maximus howled in my head. “My wolf is called Maximus, and he says he’s excited to go on a run with you.”

“Tell him we can run tonight, but for now, we should head inside and get my stuff. Did you plan on staying at Brown Claw overnight? Will they be okay with me crashing?”

“I’ll call and make sure.” Really, I didn’t need to call, as we had all planned that she’d come with me…or at least hoped she would.

We kept looking over and smiling at each other the whole way, which made it hard to drive. Honestly, I’d probably have a hard time anyway with how happy Maximus was right now. Rebecca directed us to a cute single-story home, and I stopped my truck in front of the house. I started to make my way out when she stopped me.

“Wait…I live with my parents, are you okay meeting them so soon?” She looked a bit nervous and bit her bottom lip waiting for my response.

“Yeah, I’m okay with it.”

“Are you sure? Because we just met, and this is crazy, right?”

“A little,” I agreed, “but we’re mates. Moon Goddess put us together for a reason, and I’m excited to get to know each other better.” I smiled at her and laced my fingers with hers, hoping to help calm her fears. “Tell me about your family.”

“Okay, well, I have my mom, dad, and an older brother. Dad and my brother, Rey, are also warriors. My mom’s a teacher, and Rey lives with his mate Lynn.”

“That sounds nice, I like them already. How about we head inside and tell them the good news.” I let her lead me to the front of the house, and we walked in.

“Rebecca, is that you? Dinner’s almost ready if you want to wash up.” A woman who looked like an older version of Rebecca, with the same dark curly hair and smooth mocha skin, turned the corner. “Oh, you brought a guest.”

“Hi, Mom, where’s Dad?”

“Did I hear my name?” A man’s deep voice sounded out from another room before he appeared.

“Honey, Rebecca’s brought a guest.” Her mother’s eyes widened at her mate.

“I can see that.” Her father nodded slowly. He was just a bit shorter than me, but I could easily tell that he was a warrior from his athletic build. I had told Rebecca I was okay meeting her parents, but now I was terrified.

“Mom, Dad…this is Isaiah. He’s my mate.”

“What!? Oh Goddess, your fated mate? You found your mate!?” Her mother practically jumped into my arms as she excitedly hugged me. “Let me look at you. Oh, aren’t you handsome? Come in, are you hungry? We have plenty if you are. How did you find each other?”

“Mom, we don’t have a lot of time, they’ve only given us two hours to pack my things and leave. We also still have to go to the packhouse to complete the paperwork.”

“Oh, you’re leaving so soon?” Her mother’s excitement quickly vanished.

“I know it’s soon, but this is what we wanted, right?” She softly nodded as she spoke with her mom.

“Of course, you can’t stay here.” The two gave each other a knowing look, and I wondered what that was all about. Hopefully, she’ll tell me later.

“So, Isaiah, what pack are you from?”

“Riversong”

“That’s in Washington state, right?” Rebecca’s father paled at the thought of his daughter going across the country.

“Yes, sir.”

“That’s so far, but I’m still so happy for you.” Her mom hugged her tightly as she started to sniffle.

“I’ll call your brother. He and Lynn will want to see you off. How about you two get started on the packing, and I’ll make sure you’re able to eat before you go.” There was a mixture of joy and sadness in their eyes as they realized their daughter was soon so leaving.

“Come on, you can help me pack.” Rebecca led me down a hallway to a small room. Her scent was so strong here that I just wanted to curl up on the bed with her pillows.

‘Her pillows? How about with her instead? I could think of a few things we can do in this room.’

‘We’re in a time crunch. How about we just pack up for now?’

‘Fine, I’ll make it up to her later.’

Maximus was going to make me crazy. I already couldn’t stop thinking about that kiss she’d given me earlier. How was I going to behave now that we were alone?

I heard the door close behind her, and I turned around to see that she was giving me that same look she’d given me right before kissing me in my truck.

‘You’re going to kiss her again, right?’

‘Shut up, Maximus.’

But he was right, I pulled her against me and started kissing her again. Her body fit perfectly against mine, and our movements were so in sync that I could have done this for hours. My hand traveled down to her hip, and I squeezed the soft curve making her whimper against my mouth. Goddess, I wanted more of this, more of her.

I hadn’t even realized she was pushing me back until my legs hit her bed. She motioned for me to sit as she climbed on my lap and straddled me. This time, she kissed me more roughly, and our tongues tangled together in a sensual dance. I could already feel myself getting hard underneath her, and I was sure my mate was going to be the death of me. She left my lips and started trailing soft kisses along my neck until she reached my marking spot.

“This is where I’m going to mark you,” She whispered against my neck as she started sucking and licking on the spot. She reached down to undo the first few buttons on my shirt and ran her hand inside my shirt and along my bare shoulder.

“Fuck,” I couldn’t stop the curse word from leaving my lips as she drove me insane with her lips. My hands instinctively went to her ass, and I squeezed the tight mounds pulling her further into me.

‘If she feels this good on your neck, imagine how she’ll feel with that pretty mouth wrapped around your dick.’

‘Maximus! Stop! Go take a nap or something.’

‘What, and miss the show? Serena and I are already having too much fun for that.’

A knock at the door startled us, and Rebecca slipped out of my arms, yelping as she hit the floor.

“Rebecca, what was that? Are you alright? I’ve brought you some boxes.” Her mom’s voice came from the other side of the door. Rebecca straightened her clothes before opening the door, and I made quick work of turning around and pretending to be working.

“Nothing, just dropped some books is all. Thanks for the boxes.”

“You’re welcome. Rey is on his way, maybe we can all eat together before you head out.”

“Sounds good, Mom.” She closed the door again and turned around giving me a sheepish smile.

“We should probably get started on the packing, now. I’ll just take my clothes and important stuff. I’m sure my mom can mail some of the other things. I don’t need a lot.”

“Sounds good, but my truck will fit everything here, so don’t feel like you have to leave anything.”

“Really? You mean it? I won’t be invading your space back home?”

“Of course not, there’s plenty of room. Everything of mine is yours now, and my closet’s pretty empty without your stuff in it.”

“Without my stuff? Don’t tell me you’ve already been preparing for me?” She giggled at the thought.

My face heated as she said exactly what I had been doing. “I always wanted my mate, so yeah, I set up my room with my mate in mind.”

“You’re spoiling me already,” She brushed by me and gave me a peck on the lips before heading back into her closet.

It didn’t take us long to get things packed after that. Her dad and brother helped me load up the truck, which made for a quick job. Meanwhile, her mom had prepared a feast.

“It smells delicious, Mrs. Sanchez, but you didn’t have to go through all this trouble for us.”

“Don’t worry, she always cooks for an entire army…and we always somehow finish it all.”

We ate fast, but even with the rush it was nice and felt natural being here with her family. Her brother readily accepted me and was excited for us. We said our goodbyes, and Rebecca promised to call often. I started to get queasy at not having told her the entire truth, and I was scared she’d want me to bring her back once I told her everything.

“Alright…you’re sure you’re okay with leaving with me, just like that? You won’t miss your family?”

She looked ahead and furrowed her brow like she was thinking about what she wanted to say. “I love my family, and I’ll miss them, but I’ve always wanted my fated mate, and maybe your pack will be a good change for me.”

“You don’t like it here?” I asked, feeling like there was something she left unspoken.

“I’m just ready for a change,” She said a little too quickly.

’I think you should tell her now. I get the feeling she doesn’t like it here, and her wolf is amazing, we can trust her′ Maximus was quick to give me his assessment.

‘As soon as we leave the border, I don’t want to risk it here.’

We headed down the road and went back to the packhouse to get the paperwork over with before leaving. Once we arrived, we were immediately taken up to an office where two unassuming men were waiting for us.

“Hello, Alpha?”

“I am in charge here, but I’m not an Alpha, it’s just Gerard, and you are?”

“Name’s Isaiah Jones, I’m from Riversong. I was on my way to Bear Claw when I somehow took a wrong turn right to my mate here. I’d like to take her back home with me.” I forced myself to sound overly enthusiastic, which actually wasn’t all that hard considering I really was ecstatic about being with Rebecca.

He nodded without saying another word and handed me some paperwork, which was pretty standard in every pack when a member moved away. I filled everything out with my fake information, and they let us go without another word, which I found strange. It was almost like they didn’t care and weren’t even worried about losing Rebecca. There was no sense of pack here.

We were led back outside where I helped Rebecca into her seat before heading to my side. I quickly started up my truck and drove us toward the border. “Do you have a lot of the Wildfire people here?”

“A few but they mostly keep to the packhouse and training grounds…wait, what?" She stopped realizing what I had said. Her surprise at my words was evident as she must have thought I didn't know about the attack. "How do you know about Wildfire?” Well, I guess now was as good a time as any to talk to her about why I was really here.
